“My husband bought me a Samsung Digimax U-CA3 for...”

    ★★★☆☆

My husband bought me a Samsung Digimax U-CA3 for Christmas and initially I was very pleased with it. It is extremely light and portable and very easy to use in point-and-shoot mode. The first problem was that I couldn't plug in and directly download the picures to our Mac - we had to purchase a separate card reader. I did email Samsung to ask if they had a driver we could download - I had a very inadequate reply - basically just referring me to one of their websites which not only didn't list cameras as one of their products, but when I tried to search, returned text in Japanese! Once I had downloaded the first set of pictures successfully I was very disappointed with the picture quality - the white balance (taken indoors under tungsten light) was all wrong - a lilac shirt looked blue in the pictures and the exposures were also not great. Nevertheless I persevered and took more photographs, this time using the custom white balance setting on each occasion - probably about 20% of them were acceptable. Either they were too grainy (at top quality), over-exposed, or blurred - camera shake seems to be a real problem with this model. My husband has an old Olympus Camedia 3.2 which I am used to using and this takes excellent pictures every time with no need to adjust any of the settings.
For the price, I would have expected a superior product.
