After reading some negative reviews to the online ordering service I still decided to go ahead and place an order and judge for myself and I was so glad I did, my order was delivered within 2 days of ordering and I was kept up to date on each stage of the delivery process with text messages so I even knew the exact time my item would arrive. GREAT!

I would just like to comment about the Lancing store, after reading other reviews i consider it an absolute delight to shop in this store,im a local and in there on a daily bases, yes the shop can be cluttered and under staffed but the staff that are about always give 110% in order to satisfy their customers, whether ive asked for a price,a particular item i cant find ,assistance to carry shopping to my car or just a simple and pleasant reply to my "hello",i always get a response with a smile. yes they may be treated like dirt higher up the managerial ladder but the staff in this little alladins cave never show that to the customers, one slight moan i may say is that they say it only takes 1 to upset the applecart, well unfortunatly one girl who i can only presume is training for a managerial role really shouldnt be if you know what i mean!! please keep up the good work Lancing it would be a real bummer to loose you xx

OK, so I accidentally stumbled upon this. And i've noticed staff have written reviews on here, so I just want to give my input. I have been working for Poundstretcher for almost 3 years, I am 19 years old, and I left school with excellent GCSE grades, went on to Community College in the hope of becoming a Doctor. However, changes in circumstances meant that i left the college with poor A level grades. I started as a Christmas temp, and went on to become a perminant part time sales assisstant whilst i was studying. My family is extremely poor (which is why i was so desperate to go to uni and study medicine, break out of the cycle.) and because of this and my father becoming ill (heart failure, which meant he couldnt work as much, he was a builder) i felt i had to work more to help my mum out. Which led to me skiping school to fit more hours in. Anyway, long story short, im now a full time sales assisstant. About a year ago i was offered an opportunity to train to become a supervisor in my store, i of course took this, but i was basically lied to contiuosly up untill today, as i now do supervisor duties, but without the pay rise, contract or over time. I constantly get taken advantage off by the management, and sales assisstants, because i try so hard to get this promotion im constantly promised of. I get told continuosly that 'special things are planned for me' and ive been told ill be transferred to other stores to train as a manager. I am on a 4 hour contract, and depending on if other staff members are ill/on holiday etc, i can look forward to any where between 12 and 48 hours a week, my boss knows im flexible, she knows i want as many hours as possible, and she knows i am desperate for a promotion. We are the smallest store in the area, and we still get 3 large deliveries a week, we have enough stock in the warehouse for us to stop deliveries for 7 months and still have enough to run the store on. We tell head office CONSTANTLY about our overstocked shop, in the winter, we have to wear our coats, scarfs, gloves and hats at the till, and cant even enter the warehouse its that cold, in the summer, we sweat constantly as all the windows are nailed shut. The shop is literally falling apart, the warehouse is diggered in asbestos, but its not 'cost affective' to remove it as it would involve shutting the shop for a week. Cameras follow our every move, but arent focused on the areas where we lose most to customer theft, only to try and catch us stealing (cash office and tills). Every day we only have 2 members of staff, one management and one till person, which makes it near impossible to help customers. Even on a saturday we have 2 members of staff and then a 3rd member who comes in for a maximum 4 hours. Customers complain about our shop being over stocked, and that its health and safety hazards, and how the stock is stacked high. But let me ask, have you seen the warehouses? Our warehouse is completely packed, with just a small pathway to walk through. We have to work in this all day, and when people make these remarks, i cant help but think they are being selfish, if you dont like it, you dont HAVE to stay, you can leave, but we have no choice, we have to stay in the store. Its easy to say 'find a new job' but i have applied for over 50 jobs in the past 6 months, and i either get no reply or i dont pass at the interview. The staff in my store are really friendly, and try and help as much as possible. But sometimes its just impossible. I hope you reading this can understand the staffs frustrations, its no excuse for rudeness, i know. But its difficult. Not everything is what it seems, we dont get a kick out of being rude to customers and the store isnt the jumble sale it is because of laziness, we dont want it to be this way and work hard to try and get it together, i would do anything to get out of this trap of a company, but its not working for me at the moment.

Yes Poundstretcher is very cluttered and is completely over stocked. But, it's the place to shop for friendly, helpful and eager staff. I would call myself a regular now at the Frome store and since I've started shopping here the girls have been so helpful to me! When I asked for an item I couldnt find the woman at the till immidiately asked if I needed assistance, and called another member of staff down to help me with what I was looking for. The young lady that helped me (jazmine I believed she was called) was the epitome of perfect customer service. Really outstanding, the kind of service you couldn't receive else where. As time goes on I have gotten to know the staff I would say quite well, the manageress is a bubbly helpful young woman, who seems to thoroughly enjoy her career. I literally couldn't fault anything about the staff, they are also very well presented and tidy looking. I've often caught them struggling with the 'jumble sale-like' shop they work in, and truly believe they do every thing they can to make the shop more presentable and a better shopping and working environment. I don't know what else to add, other than don't judge a book by its cover, within the tacky dirty exterior lies a centre filled with sweet customer service excellence. Xx

Excellent review. A key thing is the staff are excellent in 99.9% of stores. Several I worked in had some great customers. Most customers who were nice I got to know the names of and even said hi in the street.
A lot of staff do joke around with customers and have a laugh with them so they leave with a smile... Which is what customers want. They have enough of the 1 worded service from staff in supermarkets. Sadly if head office knew staff were chatting to customers or having a joke so they leave happy, that staff member would be out the door as head office like staff to serve the customer, get their money and get them out the door as quick as possible so staff can take the next customers money.
Your very right about the shop layouts. 3 of the shops I worked in were a state. Floor tiles were cracked, anti-slip rubber on stairs were coming lose. 2 of the stores actually put a report in to head office for them to get onto maintenance and get it fixed.... Never got a reply.
Most of the stock that is sent in is dribs and drabs. Which is the companys downfall. You could get 3 or 4 pallets of a certain chocolate bar. The area manager will demand a bay is cleared for the chocolate bars. You do that and a week later they all sell out so the bay is empty. Chances are head office wont send in anything to replenish that bay (only stuff thats already overflowing on shevles) so when customers come in the shelves are bare or theres just 1 or 2 things on them

what kind of idoit thinks what you buy from poundstrecher has a 12 month warranty haahahahahhaah

As a employee of poundstretcher, i find it interesting to read these reviews, however when people start complaining about service from staff members it makes me laugh as its normally the thick, rude, padantic people who complain about the service. If you talk or act in a rude manner towards me personally, then you will 100% get a lot worse from me as i am not paid to listen to abuse, silly sarcastic comments etc, i am paid to help customers who are polite and genuinally need help rather than people just trying to wind me up. Just remember the saying, Treat others how you would wish to be treated. If you dont, then please expect staff not to be extremely polite with you!

I have spent a couple of hundred pounds in the Upper Boat store near Ponty pridd recently Excellent value for money and very pleasant and helpful service always.
I thought I had been overcharged last week and went back today. I had an excellent response. I was told that it looked as though I had bought more than one product. As I only had the credit card receipt the lady went to check and indeed I had also bought a set of car mats. I felt such a fool and was most apologetic. I had a very kind response from her.
I have visited this store since it opened and it will definitely continue to have my custom.

Just a quick thank you to Poundstretcher. Started buying their gardening range a coupld of years ago and have never looked back. Every year it gets better and better!! Comparing the prices with the garden centres, its great - especially on things like accessories. My garden now looks the best it ever has done but looks like it cost alot more to do than it did!!!
Recommend all gardeners to find a store!!! :)

I shop in Poundstretchers on orpington high street and i must say it is a pleasure the shop is always clean and tidy and everyone is very helpful, well done to them for having such a lovely store and nice and polite staff.

If you want to go to a nice friendly store, the come to Ramsgate Kent. It's clean, friendly and very reasonably priced, plus the food is cheap compared to other supermarket stores.

I would definitely go back again, as this girl was brilliant! Even my husband said it was like a new bathroom with the products the girl added to it.
I would definitely recommend Poundstretcher.

I felt the need to let people know about Brabantia's excellent customer service and products. I own a 50L Brabantia Touch Bin, which quite frankly is genius. (I know, it's only a bin!!) You simply touch the top of the bin and silently the lid lifts so you can place your waste into it effortlessly and cleanly. It looks very stylish, and is however quite pricey. Mine cost £80 2 years ago. Unfortuneately my lid doesn't work properly now - so I contacted customer services at Brabantia to request info on how to purchase a new lid. Immediately they emailed me back and said they would be sending me a new lid free of charge in the post!! Now how's that for impressive!!

I have the 50 ltre brabantia bin but the clip has bust on the bin lid where can i purchase a new clip for the bin lid.

I've just called the Poundstretcher customer service number and explained that my bin lid had broken. They are going to send me out a replacement free of charge, no questions asked. I should receive the replacement in 3 - 4 working days. How's that for service?!!
Written on: 02/01/2007
It is weird that replacements aren't easily available. They are obviously designed to break and be replaced. I went into the shop I bought the bin from, and they gave me a couple of spares. Worth a try.
Written on: 14/09/2006
I emailed Brabantia by going on to their website www.brabantia.co.uk and looking for a customer services contact. Explained the problem and somebody has just phoned me and is sending me the clips, free of charge. Can't ask for a better service than that!
Written on: 10/08/2006
I have the same problem - so did my friend. What rubbish. get it?
Written on: 14/06/2006
I also have the same problem! I bought a supposedly brand new lid on ebay and that arrived already broken! I love the bin and am desperate for a solution!
Written on: 17/03/2006
I have the same problem. Any luck with finding a spare??
Written on: 11/02/2006
It is a shame that the otherwise excellent product has been rendered useless for the want of a simple catch that should cost a few pence to replace. Hours of searching on the internet has failed to locate anyone that can supply this simple spare part. Brabantia do not seem to have a web page with a customer service address that can be contacted for help.

Brabantia no longer have the web address you mention in review 156431. My catch and catch mounting have both broken, ( the second time for the catch) and I cannot find a phone number to contact them for a replacement, can anyone help?

i have been a regular customer for years so my first experience that upset has caused quite an effect. i have mobility issues illness what ever to call it :) when i am well enough to leave my bed i go there to £shop to get bits its an enormous effort for me that during i hide the agonizing pain I'm in so i can be normal an shop like normal people do but my cupcake stand (I've always wanted one but could never afford till that day ) i was so happy that i found one and i got the last one! i no its silly and 4.99 may not be much for most but i saved up for a nice treat as baking makes me happy so if i get a rare chance to add to my happiness i will try to. but i was so upset when i got home and discovered (after unpacking my treat) i saw it had no long pin the thing that keeps the two plates separated and at diff level height. i cant lie i cried. it took me over 3 months to be well enough to travel it took that long to afford to go get my treat :) i went back after near toward a week to request a swap. to my dismay i had no receipt. i was informed that a receipt can get a refund and exchange where as an item with no receipt will only allow a swap of the goods providing the reason was valid etc. i was refused a swap and then was told go to the other one of our pound stores (by Morrison in Westcroft MK) how can u refuse a swap wen its the shops fault i didn't have wot i purchased (not in full anyway) AND the staff inc manager can clearly see i am using crutches and struggling to walk stand rest etc u saw me come to the store more than once in search of what i had purchased so i can have a swap. what on earth is going on here i should have been given the swap if u don't have it in stock than ask the other store to send it to u so i may collect it another time or arrange for them to keep one for me to swap. there is no way in my condition i would go somewhere if i didn't need to. i saved i treated i lost :( it may seem stupid but to me its not. i don't get to be free much so when i am i try to do wot i can and the pain endured to get my treat is one thing but to return more than once was a joke. i cost me more to go more than once than the actual item had cost in the first place inc trip to my destination. i don't know what to do now :( i felt so bad i hate not bein listened to. even if i said nothing, u can see im not well enough for all this hassle but at the same time i want to be treated fair im a nice person i am not a rude or mean customer even if i am insulted and told by an able body person go to another shop (with no indication that wot was my set back was clearly apparent, which it was!) i should of asked the manager if he had glue, coz my last journey rendered me flightless! now i am again bed bound sooner than wat i should have been. wuld have been avoided if i was treated correctly and kindly. any advice welcome i really want the item i no it seems silly but i am trapped in my home in my own prison (my own body) so this day (as they are far an few between) meant a lot to me.

Why write a comment of this nature in a column relating to Pontefract when your obviously talking about the Milton Keynes store. I am a regular customer in Pontefract and the manager and her team always treat me very well. The Area Manager is really nice as well, he delivered stock to my home as im disabled and couldnt get my purchases home.

This review page is about poundstretchers not £shops think you should start your own thread not jump on other people. I am sorry if you are disabled but I too am disabled but your story reads like you are looking for sympathy not writing a review about a store sorry no offence like!!!!!!
