Basically im 15 so cant exactly ride the Yamaha aerox yet ( 16 in april ) but i have rode it once or twice anyway and its a great bike i think easily goes over 30mph and it hasnt been de restricted.. yet ;) the problem is every time i go to start it in the mornings it starts and then dies and i have to keep kicking it and just starts and dies , starts and dies and then eventually it stays on and is fine, anyone know what the problem could be? i don know whether because its could or there is a problem with the bike please help..

they dont need batterys if you stsrt it on the kickstart
your choke is probally broken small electrical part on the side of carburetor its held in by 2 screws and a retainer plate
you say it runs ok once warm so this would suggest cold start mechanism
choke ?

Firstly, I'll tell you the full truth about this bike. It's decent to look at (especially my yellow and black), it has sturdy feeling controlls and feels quite robust.
However, you have to understand that after nearly a years worth of all weather usage cracks start to appear in that Yamaha brand image. In terms of speed, it's quite quick at the top end. With a Leo Vince TT pipe de-restricted it was hitting 50mph on a flat and 55mph down hill. It was slow to respond at first then after 22mph it shot straight round to 50. I really had to learn how to ride it and teach myself where the power was to make the most out of it.
Replacing the exhaust was a task in itself and I was lucky that my Dad is handy with the toolbox. Beware of the two bolts as they snap due to expanding and contracting due to the heat. Plus the derestriction process (drilling the cone from the exhaust) was a lot harder than expected.
Furthermore, going over the numerous speed bumps too fast and potholes sneaking up on me concluded in the oil filter frequently falling off. This just requires you to put the pipe back into the black box.
Latest modifications include new brake levers because the old ones weren't clicking in the switches for the brake light properly. The most rad by far though is the addition of my new Malossi Kevlar belt with finally the correct Leo Vince TT rollers. This is because the old belt snapped at 50mph on the way home from my part time job. 60mph comfortably now though, but much smoother reaching it-if a little slower. Down hill easily sees roughly 65 though (it's hard to tell because it goes off the clock). I hope this has been helpful, and in conclusion, a great buy for £600 and £250 for insurance. Even if the new exhaust and extras have added a couple of hundred to that figure.

I found this review not helpful because...it is all about modifying the bike. I am about to buy a bike and wish to know how this stacks up in the 50cc class.

you say that after a while cracks start appear but to be honest it is 2002 that a fair few years old. so isnt really helpful when you are talking about an old bike!

Overall a good moped great fuel econnomy and brillant for commuting on.But after a year of being used every day it did start to ware eg bolts comming loose and the plastics inside the throttle broke which yamaha refused to repair under there warrentee.Dont buy from j and s doncaster as the costomer service is rubish.

You cant beat the build quality on this bike, i had someone hit me from behind when i had stoped to turn right it sent the bike flying 20ft down the road, after replacing the bodywork and exhaust the bike was as good as new it was as if the bike had never been hit.
dont put a sports veriator on your aerox its not worth it. ;)

The Yamaha Aerox 50 is a good moped its quick and fast and has plenty of room in the storage compartment however mine seems to cut out in the cold. Looks good and good handling

Fast 50cc for a 16 year old to ride and very stylish. Exhaust manifold bolts are too small :L Everytime i've changed my exhaust it has always turned out being a trip to the local welders to remove the snapped bolts. After a leo vince tt pipe, soft springs, light rollers and a kevlar belt my Aerox hits 65 mph with ease. Owned this Yamaha since last January as my first one got stolen. Would recommend these bikes to any learner as they are 110% fun filled :) ...never had a problem with it except when I tinker and mess things up :)

The Yamaha Aerox 50 is heavier than most bikes (can lead to over steering if you use another bike) Great value bike. Good for beginners to experienced riders.

Love it; bought mine second hand '01 de-restricted; I wouldn't trade it foir the world. I wouldn't trust it on a long journey; but for short distances (30kms) its a beauty. Get second hand and have someone check it over; then its best value for money!

Had mine for 5 years and clocked up 10k miles, derestricted from the showroom and does 50mph easily enough. Only problem I have had is that brake light keeps sticking on. I live in Jersey where the top speed limit is 40mph! so Im not gonna bother with a bigger bike, I would have loved to have bought another brand new one of these, I have seen the later model and don't think it is as nice looking.

I bought this bike for use to commute, as well as other inner-city rides. It has met my needs very well and I am very happy with the bike. The only problem I ' ve had with it (only time it wouldn ' t start) when it had been out in the rain. This was, however, not normal rain but more of a 'rainstorm' in Bergens classical style. Streets were flooded etc. the bike seemed to have gotten moisture somewhere in the engine or carburettor. After replacing the spark plug it returned to normal. (On a bad day it still feels like it has lost its effect but I will dismantle it and clean it up when the summer comes) A great purchase!

I ride much bigger bikes and compared to them, the Yamaha Aerox is slow but I suppose in comparison to other 50ccs it pretty quick.

Had my Aerox about 3 months now red and white 03 model great bike goes 50mph. Love it to bits just annoys me sometimes in the morning takes quite long to warm up - have to hold choke in, but its great to ride apart from that.
