Had an absolute nightmare for the first month, the helplines are awful, the website useless. Constant disconnections, VERY slow speeds when it did work, basically unusable. Spent literally days on the phone ( to India! :( ) but then I got in touch with the CEO via email (Not sure if you can still do this - google it!) and they put a dedicated UK team onto it from the business section. This resulted in a decent level of attention, and engineer visits - which didn't fix anything. So far so bad. Then I had an extension socket wired in by a private guy who was ex-BT. He took one look at the external cabling and said "There's your problem". A BT engineer was coming that day and I pointed out the external connections: mounting box fitted upside down and not closed properly so the rain was getting in, and the cable from the pole was joined very badly and wrapped up with masking tape! He checked the signal from exchange to cabinet, cabinet to telegraph pole and pole to house and called Openreach who amazingly, turned up within an hour with a lifter platform, as this is their responsibility. Openreach replaced the degraded 1970's cable from the pole and all the dodgy connections through to the house with one brand new uninterrupted cable - free of charge. Since then - uninterrupted perfection. Even better I get a great deal on 4 mobile sims included and it seems to get cheaper every year :) NEVER going back to Virgin. Love BT. You just have to know which trees to shake to get the right result! So what would have been a one-star review all the way has been turned right around.

They take ages to answer the phones but when they do they are helpful and resolve the issue immediately.

I've been with BT for a while, never had any problems, the modem is brilliant i would recommend it to all my family and friends. Customer services is not very helpful at the beginning but its fine now, like the speed of modem

Well you get what you pay for. I only use the internet for general use but BT is faster than anyone elses, and more reliable. Never had a problem with it when I had it but I dont use the internet that much so went to a cheaper provider they are slower and not as reliable but id rather save the money. But overall if you want the fastest and most relable service and you dont mind paying a little more go with BT. customer service is good too. Only thing is, is that you cant use the BT hub on most other internet providers if you wanted too and the internet phone thing I found was a waste of time really? Just like having two phones but sure that there is a reason for it just I dont know why?

I have been with them all and find BT Broadband by fsr the best.Constant speeds of 6 meg.Recentley had a problem with slow speeds so I reported fault on line.I was contacted within 12 hours and after all the usual tests an engineer was booked and turned up on time.Fault on box due to power surge after recent lightning storm. Problem solved and back up to speed within 24 hours.Report faults on line its much better. Call centre from Ireland contacts you and the Irish lads are super helpfull.Dont ring the freephone number as it goes to India but they are still not that bad (even the engineer has to call India to check line).Bit more expensive that the others but service is by far the best.

I needed a reliable, consistent service. BT have provided that to me for over 6 years now. Their Customer service is not better/worse than anyone elses. We have a very busy household Internet-wise, and it's been hassle-free. I've read the negative reviews, and maybe I'm just lucky. It is still the only ISP my company will support for VPN access from home, since none of the others match up.

Have been with BT for approx 18 months and considering changing, but not convinced I can get the same reliability and speed with another provider. My parents live 15 minutes away and use Tiscali and their connection speed is appalling, almost dial up speeds.
Never dropped, disconnected or been slow.

I thought I'd praise B.T. for it's excellent though expensive broadband. I've unfortunately transferred over to TalkTalk after receiving a call from them offering me a cheaper phone & broadband bundle. I never had a problem with my B.T. broadband, it was always fast (8mb) & never once failed. I've also written a review of my TalkTalk broadband as it is so abysmal (even that's praising it, but I can't think of anything that trully reflects its performance). You get what you pay for, and although B.T. was expensive, if I could, I'd swap back to it asap. Unfortunately I'm tied in to an 18 month contract with TalkTalk (still, only 12 months to go)

BT charge a bit for the service, but it has been pretty reliable, almost up to the standards of Pipex before they were bought out by Tiscali. Wish BT had done the black hub when I ordered, the white just does not go with my decor. I may look at changing after my period is up, perhaps to O2 if it ever reaches my area, then again, if the service isn't broken and Tiscali or Orange are not about to buy BT Broadband, why worry.

The trouble with these reviews is that people usually write them because they're cross and fed-up, and seldom when satisfied; so most of the reviews will naturally be bad. Well, I've been with BT for 5 years and have never ever had a service drop out, with consistent speeds of about 4Mbps. The only odd failure has been due to my own router (not a BT one) (they do that now and again, solved by re-cycling).
I can't comment on the customer service - because I've never had to contact them!

I moved to Talk Talk, very very very bad mistake. 3 days I changed back to BT Broadband.

You pay a higher price for it but you are sure it will always work fine. Very good for downloading or watching media online as it never goes down.

No problems with the Broadband service from BT at all, they have just offered me a new deal for the next 12 months, saving £3 per month. It does seem to be more expensive than other providers, but sometimes you get what you pay for!

BT Broadband www.bt.com deserve some good press on this site - people are always quick to complain but too slow to praise!
I have been a BT Broadband customer for over 6 years. In all this time I can honestly say that the service has NEVER failed and the speed has always been fast and consistent.
There is also great support online and via customer service numbers. (OK, the technical help call centre is in India but they have always sorted my problems quickly and efficiently).
BT are the original and the best. Yes, there are cheaper options but at what cost? It doesn't matter how cheap it is - if you can't get online or the service is painstakingly slow then its worthless anyway.
BT are also keen to keep their customers and look after them. I was given a very good exclusive deal when I spoke to them about other ISP's. (Although I was very happy with the service, I did for a very short time consider Sky's free service - then I saw sense!)
Highly recommended.

Having used BT Broadband for several years (before they merged with Yahoo), we have had very little trouble. There has only been 72 hours of (noticed) down time in the last 3 years. They have even been good enough to upgrade our service from 512k to 2mb for free after being valued customers. The only draw back is our exchange is limited to only 2mb. Would definitely recomed a try. When signing up, all equipment and instructions were easy to use. And we were able to get online straight away. It still works well now even with the large amounts of PC's, game consoles, laptops, etc., using the connection.

I have been with them for the last 4 years. I always get connected straight away, and I always use the net between 7pm-11pm, with no problems at all. I have never been disconnected from BT Broadband or had the line dropped.
Only twice have I had problems with the BT land line where I got a fault. I phoned the helpline and the line was fixed. On one occasion it got fixed within 12 hours!! And on the second occasion it took them 4 days because it was a long weekend (for which I got a discount on my following bill).
I always get tempted to move to other cheaper provider, but then I think... are few £££ worth the risk?? I have read reviews about people getting disconnected and cut off at peak time, and taking hours to get through to the customer service .. the frustration must be worth more than the few £££ they saved.
Before moving to any provider, do not just look at the cheapest, look at the customer service reviews.

I have been using BT internet for 18 months now. I started as a pay as you go customer, but after only a month I switched to broadband. Broadband can be used at any time for a flat fee. Mine costs around £100 a month all in, using Option 1 up to 4Gb.
The internet is a mine field. When I signed for file sharing software it did not take me long to find out it was free, but as I had paid £25 already. Limewire is a free system if you want to file share, but it has become unpopular, as viruses can come with the files.
From consumer review sites it is easy to see that there are many cowboy internet companies. BT are not one of them. Once my line went down, on phoning them they had a man around to fix it in no time, and it cost me nothing. My line has worked perfectly ever since.
Web space is provided by BT where you can have a small web site. Pictures will use up all of this space quickly, and they will not be available to view more than once as there is a limit to it.
Overall, BT broadband is a wonderful service which can be recommended to any one with a home computer. It may not be as cheap as some, but at least it works well.

The modem arrived a day earlier than promised, as did activation. I have had the service about three weeks, and I have had no disconnections or other problems, other than one I possibly caused myself.
The technical support is near useless though. I asked them to help me when Router Manager could not "see" my router, despite the fact that I was still connecting OK. An hour on the phone to someone with a poor command of English got me nowhere. Had he suggested to me that I switch the router off and then back on (as I later did), he would have hit the nail on the head. His best shot was "well if you're connected OK, what do you want to look at Router Manager for?"
I am no fan of BT at all, but I have to say that the broadband Option 1 service I am getting from them is great so far. There have been many complaints about download speeds slowing after the initial 10 day settling in period, but mine have actually got better.

Been with BT now for a month. Was with AOL om 1 meg USB. BT is 3meg for same price on Ethernet router modem. That means my always-on ethernet connection lets me use Ubuntu 6.06 Linux for my main online operating system, which is much safer with NO virus attacks. Although BT don't officially support Linux, it works fine, but you must have windows on dual boot to set up the router as the 220V is locked, though there is probably a hack somewhere.
The migration process went as planned and took about 21 days, except that AOL didnt cancel my subscription. AOL says BT Wholesale should have told them. BT says that the migration code was their notification. In reality the Ofcom process is a little lacking in detail; the migration code issued by AOL is the start of the 30 days notice, but that only protects you in law, it doesnt actually cancel your subs. You are best to cancel by phone as soon as the new connection is made. I did get a refund from AOL after persistent badgering.
Help desk support quality? I don't know as I haven't needed them yet. (must find out what the number is one day).

Well in other European countries you can get a lot faster broadband but because they are state owned companies they are run to benefit the customer where as we have a profit driven private BT. Anyway the service it provides now is good (for Britain) and if your thinking of switching to BT Broadband or signing up then go for it I've been a happy customer for about 2 years now.

My router stopped working on phoning BT India the man refused to accept the router was broken and kept me on the line for half an hour. After a month of useless phone calls to BT I went to Currys and bought a new router. Then it was just a phone call to BT for a user name and pass word they still managed to keep me on the line for ages telling me I was welcome to call them at any time etc. Wierd if yo ask me.
