The Great Tythe Barn, Gloucestershire

We visited the Great Tythe Barn as a potential venue for our wedding last year, and got very close to booking it as we had fell in love with the beautiful barn and the surroundings

However the staff left a lot to be desired. We booked a meeting with the owner and wedding planner to go through finances and our plans, and they just did not seem interested at all. We didn't get offered to sit down, go through things properly, in fact we felt a bit like we were in the way. So we got absolutely nothing from the meeting. We again asked for a more in depth meeting with them, again it was very unhelpful, no potential planning of our day, asking what we wanted our wedding to be like or anything.

After this we decided to not have our wedding at the barn, it was a difficult decision as the barn is perfect, however we felt that we were to be liaising about our wedding with these people for at least a year, and if they couldn't be bothered with us then our wedding would not be what we wanted. We felt that the staff were quite fake and snobbish towards us.

At a wedding fayre, we looked around the accommodation on offer (very expensive might I add)and felt it wasn't anything special, in fact was quite dingy and drab, especially the B'n'B area and the kitchen room. We contacted the barn to say, quite politely, that we had found a different venue and unfortunately we would not be holding our wedding with them, they didn't even have the decency to reply, even though we had provisionally booked a date with them.

Obviously I cannot review what a wedding would actually be like at the Tythe Barn, however if you want a wedding planner and owner who will listen to what you want and make you feel relaxed whilst planning your big day, don't pick this venue

Never in my life have i ever experienced such unbelievable rudeness as I did with the owners at this venue. Despite the fact i spent a fortune, booked every possible room and had a two day event the way I was treated was shocking to say the least. Right from the start guests who tried to book their rooms were greeted with a grumpy, annoyed response as if they were doing us such a massive favour booking their rooms! I personally made the venue beautiful with decoartions and flowers etc, dont expect much help with this, however the event planner was very nice and helpful, unfortunately the owners ruined any good she did. Me and my guests were repeatedly shouted out and told off during the weekend for things such as walking around with a cup of coffee and many guests had the unpleasent experience of the owners physically marching into their rooms at 10 in the morning telling them they had to vacate their rooms as their was another event in three days time?! I had a wonderful wedding last year, however this was purely down to my family, friends my organistaion of the event and of course marrying my wonderful husband. I can not highlight enough how rude and unpleasant the owners were that ultimately put a really negative spin on the most special day of my life.

So, this place looks good on the website but be aware that all the negative comments on this site are correct

We are staying here today and are paying to stay here for a week, imagine how upset we have been to find:-

Towels - old and frayed. When they were replaced by the owner there was no apology

Cobwebs in the lounge and rooms

Bathrooms that are old and not upto standard - ladies, if you need to wash your hair you will struggle with the shower weakness

No towel provided to use outside the shower

Paint pealing off the inside of our windows and general decoration in serious need of re-painting

The fridge is made by beko and the TV by bush - these are the cheapest models on the market. The tv sound is tinny and picture very average - you have to unplug the free view box if you want to use the cheap DVD player as the owners do not want to even pay for a double plug - Grrrrrrrr

I would so so so not recommend staying here unless you have no other option and you stay for a max of 1 night. Unfriendly and the owners obviously take the money and spend none of it on the upkeep - other guests were complaining when we were in the office. It might be easy to stay here if you have a wedding but it's like a very cheap b&b, nothing more

The barn itself is the most beautiful venue. The caterers were second to none with extremely friendly and efficient staff and food which was out of this world. The barn owners were quite rude and unhelpful, the cottages and B&B rooms are tired and in need of some tlc. Be warned - check in time is 3pm - even if your wedding starts at 2pm!!!! Breakfast is cold continental style only with absolutely no exceptions so be prepared for off milk, stale bread and cold coffee. If you're expecting an enthusiastic event planner full of suggestions and ideas don't go to GTB! We had a magical day inspite of all this - thanks to our friends and family who rolled up their sleeves and helped!

My Husband and I got married at The Great Tythe Barn, Gloucestershire last July. The wedding organsier, was nice, but some other staff were absolutely vile and extremely rude.

On my arrival (at 7pm on the Thursday evening the night before the wedding) the barn was shut and I needed to put the wedding cake in the kitchen. No one was around so I had to call the staff phone number - he was most put out that he had to take the 200m walk to the barn and was really rude when he arrived. Bearing in mind this was the night before the most special day of my life, it was not the best start!!

We had a hair and make up lady coming at 8.30am, so I asked if the bridal party and I could have breakfast at 7am instead of 7.30am - I was basically told in no uncertain terms this was not possible!

On our wedding day, at 9am a very angry wedding organsier came knocking on the door asking why we hadnt been down to breakfast!!!

We had an amazing day. The food was absolutely fantastic, but I have never met such rude obnoxious people as some of the staff.

We had a lovely day at The Great Tythe Barn in Gloucestershire, but only because of our efforts and our guests.

It may be beautiful, but if you want a stress free day and value for money, there are many more choices available at other venues.

The impression created at this long-standing venue with its superficially slick package is not necessarily representative of the actual management capabilities, and disputes are immediately referred to their lawyers. We understand that the caterers of very long standing, at The Great Tythe Barn in Gloucestershire have just (early 07) been changed, so this might cause fresh problems.
