“pretty good really”

★★★★☆

written by qnBeck22 on 06/09/2015

i bought this cattie because i wanted a decent, cheap cattie that i can have good fun with.it really is a brilliant catapult fo beginners, but to be honest it doesn't really compare with the saunders and daisy catapults. it can reach about 205 fps with a .38 steel bb. the accuracy is not bad, but due to the relativeley low power, it would be greatly improved with better bands. would definiteley reccomend for begginers though.

“A great catapult!”

★★★★☆

written by Jeff.D.Steele on 29/07/2012

I've been taking a Black Widow with me when I going fishing for the past 30 years and it hasn't failed me yet. It may not be the most pricey catapult, but it is certainly amongst the best. Durable, good range, high level of accuracy - what more could you ask for?

first i would like to say what a great piece of equipment...ive had this for approxamatly 7 months now and it has really done me justice it the arm rest really makes it possible to pull the bands far back and you can get really good power,i went hunting with this i didnt get anything not because of the slingshot but because i didnt see anything and i went in 5ft deep water swimming in a stream for about 1 hour and then went in thick mud when i got home i swilled it off and it wash fine all round i would say thisis one of the best things i have ever purchased.i would reccomend anyone getting this im keeping it for a long time great item

This catapult is a few year old, and still good as new. it is a good price and value for money, I have used this a lot for hunting rats, and kill rate is very good. It is very robust with good build quality, the rubber is of good quality. the plastic grip could be better, but for the price it can be forgiven. Looks good and feels strong, with the wrist strap for support, for pulling the rubber back for power.

The Barnett Black Widow is a very good catapult. Its very powerful with decent metal bb's. comfortable to use & with a bit of practice very very accurate. build quality very solid, a decent bit of kit ! Bit of a contortion act to get the arm rest seated on the arm.

The Barnett black widow is such a good catapult. Its brilliant, its got really strong elastic and the arm rest is great, it keeps your arm really steady. Its an absolute plesure to use this catapult. There is nothing really bad about it, other than the elastic occasionally flicks you in the hand.

What an inclredible catapault, can put pretty much anything in the leather pouch and it will fire it for many many metres. This will smash glass with a bean in the pouch and i only paid £5.49 for mine so i am defenatly pleased with my catapault.

“Very powerful, demands lots of practice....”

★★★★★

written by thurble on 29/09/2008

Very powerful, demands lots of practice. Goggles/plastic specs vital. Stay aware of off-target risks - pets/kids/windows. Steel balls, not stones, have greater range, truer flight, increased impact. Stand about 80/90 degrees sideways on to target, look down extended arm, pull back say 20-30 cms, never overstretch. Let fly when on target. Dithering invites 'wobble' and, long term, wrist/arm strain. 'Practice makes perfect'. Avoid songbirds, cats - but rabbits and wood pigeons (official UK pests) make superb eating. Practise to ensure clean, humane kills, then with landowner's OK you can get into The Great Outdoors early a.m. or just before dusk to make that Black Widow earn its keep.

written by on 14/04/2008

I brought it for 8 quid and dont regret it one bit, but it could do with a better band on it. Its alot more powerfull than it looks, its simple to use, its cheap, its safe... for the user that is and its good fun, and its a barnett... now thiers something to brag to your mates about, a barnett slingshot WHAT A TOOL you'l look!!! The only way of aiming the thing is via looking through the metal points, and because it was made to be an if you like entry level slingshot its pretty basic.

“The barnett black widow is a mighty fine slingshot...”

★★★★★

written by on 02/03/2008

The barnett black widow is a mighty fine slingshot with a lot of power. The ball barings penetrate a piece of 3 mm plywood at a distance of 10 meters. It's also a very accurate slingshot, so it's fun to hit cans on a distance of 15 to 20 meters. I don't have any experience with hunting mammals and birds, but if i can penetrate a piece of plywood, it will definitly be affective to hunt small mammals and birds. The impact will give a reasonable shock effect on the animal and probably a certain death with a headstrike.
The only bad point is that the first barnett black widow has fingerglooves in it. I find it very unpleasant, but luckily the new black widow has a improved handle. But with some ducktape the old design handle lay's perfect in my hand now.

★★★★★

written by freeride on 03/04/2006

My friend bought the Barnett Black Widow slingshot and I thought it was very good and powerful when I used it. But a short time after the band broke. So we had to take it off and cut the band, but I saw that the plastic part (were the bands go on) had some points and edges. So we sanded it down with fine sandpaper and heated it up a little with a lighter to get the softness. after that it worked fine. So I suggest when you buy this slingshot take the bands off and do the same thing we did.

★★★★☆

written by prodiablo on 21/02/2006

The Barnett Black Widow slingshot is comfortable, small, folds up and delivers a whopping punch. Good against small creatures and perched birds. If the pouch is big enough, you can load several ball bearings into it to get a shotgun- like affect. Get it now!

I feel that the use of a slingshot to hurt and torture poor and defenceless animals is sick. You need to go and see a psychiatrist about your obvious problem.

My comment is directed to the anti hunting comment made above. I don't think Prodiablo suggested "torturing animals". That comment should be removed in my opinion as offensive

“The Barnett Black Widow is simply the best catapult...”

★★★★★

written by dave69001 on 27/10/2004

The Barnett Black Widow is simply the best catapult for its money. If you use the recommended .38 calibre ball bearings recommended it is also highly accurate. Me and my friend have one and have killed rabbits, rats, pigeons, ducks, crows, pheasants and even a grey squirrel. It is ideal for target shooting, breaking milk bottles from 20 metres. The only bad points of this catapult is that you have to use .38 steel as stones tend to snap them, and the steel is quite expensive. Does anyone know where I can get some cheaply?

yes, I have that slingshot too it is good, I like it alot, and also if u want to get the steel balls for the slingshots cheaply. Try Wal Mart, they sell a whole thing of them for $4.00, its a good deal!

Me and my friend have a pair of them, great fun, great for hunting rabbits at close range. I hunted a pheasant with one. It took two stones to bring it down, first hit it from 15yards, must have winded it. Then the second to the neck area and I had to finish it off, probley wouldnt do that again, but all rabbits have been instant.

<br>You want to go for a headshot, if you plan to hunt with a sling shot I believe the average slingshot produces around 6ft/lb so will be good for rabbits within 15yards.

Just a quick couple of questions regarding the black widow, you say you have taken out rats, pigeons and rabbits. At what distance was this and were they head shots or can you strike anywhere and the shock will kill?
