“ING DIRECT - Banking at its Best!”

★★★★★

written by alex_brookes on 22/10/2013

ING DIRECT is possibly one of the best banks out there. There are various different accounts available with each having a generous interest rate. I currently have a Tax-Free Investment Savings Account (TFSA) and gain a 1.4% interest rate on my balance each month. In addition, the interest rate is compounded and tax-free. They also offer great rewards for referring friends. For example: Orange Key: 17018253S1 Using the Orange Key that I posted above when you sign up for an ING DIRECT account with a 100$ deposit will net us both 25$ as a gift. You can also open a chequing account and deposit your cheques directly by taking a picture with your smart phone. I think this is really cool and convenient. Not to mention they offer a 100$ free sign-up. ING DIRECT is also known as Capital One in the USA, and the code if still valid under "Reference Code". This is definitely a bank that everyone needs to try for themselves. You won't be disappointed. Customer service is great each and every time that I have called them up. They refer to you by your first name as well, and make sure everything is solved.

“Top marks for customer service”

★★★★★

written by Rombom on 15/09/2011

Top saving rate regularly on offer for new customers - existing customers not so lucky- hence I called today to close my a/c. Phone answered within a minute. Very polite agent - happily & quickly closed the a/c over the phone (the only bank to do so ever?). Always impressive & straightforward customer service in the past. Will be happy to re-open the a/c once qualify as a new customer again. I deal with banks a lot (and I work for one) and do not rate them highly but ING have impressed - if only they could offer better deals to existing customers.

I've had HSBC and WAMU. They do not compare to ING. If you want to watch your money mysteriously vanish from your account then I would suggest WAMU. It will make for great reviews.

written by jilltara on 15/12/2006

I love ING Direct. It's got the best savings program that I've found. You earn 4.5% interest on your savings without having to lock up your money in a CD!

It's easy to use, VERY secure and extremely convenient! Customer Service is just a toll free call away, and they have always been friendly and ready to help me resolve any issues I was encountering - which has rarely been the case! I can't say enough good things about this banking system.

Before I discovered ING, I had no clue how much interest my dollars could be earning me! Now, I'll never go back to a Brick & Mortar Savings account!!!

Referrals earn $25 just for opening a new account, and $10 for referring friends!

I have been with them since August 2005. Besides a regular OSA, I also have a couple of CD's, as well as accounts for my kids. This is a great way to SAVE your money. The whole purpose or ING Direct is to promote savings, so I really don't want it to be too easy for me to transfer money out of the bank. In fact, I treat my savings at ING just like a CD; a very liquid CD.

If you refer your friends to open an ING Direct Internet Banking account, they will get 25 bucks and you will get 10 bucks. It's just an email system from the website with easy to follow instructions that even a monkey could do.

“I've had my ING Direct account for almost 3 years now,...”

★★★★★

written by TheBlackDragon7 on 12/10/2005

I've had my ING Direct account for almost 3 years now, and I couldn't be happier with this bank. People complain that there are no ATM's, and no checking accounts, but the whole mission statement of the bank is to help you SAVE your money. The Savings rates are amazing, and currently at 3.4% (WAY better than my credit union's rates), and the CD rates are even better, plus there are no minimums on the CD's (well, maybe a dollar). But I had ONE DOLLAR in my savings account, and they were paying me interest on that for 4 months! (After that, they just froze my account, because I wasn't doing anything with it... BUT, when I remembered that I had it, all it took to re-open it was a simple phone call). Plus they have a new security feature at the log-in: aside from asking for a random piece of personal info, they have a new PIN-entry system. Instead of putting your PIN in on the keyboard, you can either click on the numbers (a virtual PIN pad), or type the letters corresponding to those numbers (which changes each time, but is written right there on the virtual PIN pad). That is one definite deterrent against key-loggers! More banks should do this online. I could go on and on, but those are the strong points.

written by ariog on 03/10/2005

The great interest rate is the main draw for ING and my experience with the service has been good. The people seem to really care about me and want to help me with any problems I am having, and they treat me as if I am a valued customer.

The sign up process took me a while since I had no credit history, but this is the only thing that I had a problem with.

The referral program they have is great, you get $10 for referring a friend, and your friend gets $25.

“ING Direct is the front runner in no frills online...”

★★★★★

written by jwegan86 on 01/06/2005

ING Direct is the front runner in no frills online banking which is headquartered out of a converted warehouse in New England. Despite their no frills approach they have been doing very well for themselves, they have shown increasing profits, and have surpassed E*trade as the largest online financial institution. ING Direct is also FDIC insured and backed by the ING Group from the Netherlands.

ING's main feature is it's high interest rate, and $25 sign up bonus fee. ING is able to give such great rates and bonuses because they don't have to spend money building branches, paying tellers and bank managers, etc. Because of this, brick & mortar banks just can't compete with ING's rates.

ING also offers a wide variety of account options. They have their flagship ING Direct Orange Savings Account which currently has a 3.0% Interest rate. They also have CD's with high rates and they have a CD ladder account making it easy to open several CD's for varying periods of time. ING also offers home loans, and investment accounts, but I have only had experience with the Savings Account.

Now on to the actual bank. The sign up process is easily completed online within minutes and their website is very simple and intuitive making it easy to navigate. It is one of the better designed websites I have seen on the internet. The login is secure, and asks for a customer ID #, pin #, and some random personal information that you supplied when signing up for the account.

Now nothing is perfect and that includes ING. The first big downside is they don't offer checking accounts because it would cost more. Also when withdrawing funds from you ING account it usually takes about 2 business days for it to clear.

I highly recommend ING and I have had a good experience with them. Their customer service was helpful and quick when I had to verify some personal information.

What can I say. I was a little hesitant at first but now I have all my funds in an ING Direct bank account and would recommend others to do so as well. I have had no problems and make great money on the interest.
Thanks.

★★★★★

written by lisaz712 on 28/10/2004

I got sick of 0.75% return from my local bank's money marketing account and decided to give internet banks a chance. I have used other internet banking sites before and ING Direct (www.ingdirect.co.uk) offers higher saving interest and much more lenient regulations. I ended up transferring all my money to ING direct instead. It's super easy to sign up and the bonus from referral was deposited to your account immediately. No minimum balance required to get the high interest, and no hidden fees at all. Other internet banks may require a minimal of $500 to open an account and waive your monthly fee only if you keep a minimum balance of $500 or more. ING direct also allows you to transfer money between your local bank and you ING direct account, while some other high interest internet banks may only allow you to transfer money from your local bank to your ING, but not the other way around. This is a big plus to me!

written by Wach20 on 13/09/2004

I searched around the internet for a while to try and find a bank that had a higher interest rate than the .4% I was currently getting at a traditional bank. When I saw ING Direct's 2.2% rate I thought it was too good to be true. I did some further research and ING Direct is totally legit. There are no fees associated with the account and the minimum initial deposit is only $1. On top of that if someone refers you, you get a free $25 deposited into your account.

written by Cammies MaMa on 05/08/2004

ING Direct is offering 2.2% on a savings account with no minimums! The security is great too. Each time you log on to the internet banking, the site prompts you for an additional security question (5 digit zip, first 3 numbers of S.S, etc..) and it is a different question every time. If you're referred by someone who already has an account, you receive a $25.00 bonus. The CD rates are higher than average too.

written by greenman on 21/07/2004

At first I was a little weary of ING Direct, with its high interest rate and its sudden explosion of marketing on the web. But now that I've been using ING for some time now, it is exactly what I had been searching for. How many other banks give you $25 just by putting a $1 into your account no strings attached and allow you to refer up to 25 people at $10 a piece paid to you? ING Direct is exactly what I wanted in a bank.

“When I received a referral email from a friend to sign...”

★★★★★

written by somdeb on 12/04/2004

When I received a referral email from a friend to sign up with ING Direct for a savings account with a 2% APY, with an initial deposit as low as $1 and I would be immediately credited with $25, I became very suspicious. After reading all the fine print, I opened an account online. An email, containing a verification link was immediately dispatched. The following day I checked my personal checking account for two small deposits made by ING DIRECT. You enter these amounts on their website and the account is verified and available for use. Within an hour, I received an additional email advising me that the $25 was posted to the account.

The online account is very user friendly. You have total control over all your personal information. The account must be linked with another personal checking account since you can only transfer amounts electronically from one to another. You may link up to three checking accounts with the ING DIRECT account. You can make transfers either by phone or on the internet 24/7. Your account is insured by the FDIC. There are no fees involved. The interest is accrued daily, as shown on your account, and compounded and posted monthly. An email notification is sent when your statement is available online. It's posted in PDF format which makes it very convenient to download or print. You can also opt for a paper statement. Anytime a transaction is made, a confirmation number is given. Immediately, an email is also sent to you confirming your transaction and the confirmation number. I found their web site to be very security oriented. When signing into it, your user number, personal pin and a third identifying question which constantly changes, is required.

There is a slight time delay on deposits. Funds transferred are not available for five days and funds withdrawn are not available in your linked checking account for three days. There is the option for an automatic savings plan (you designate the amount and frequency for automatic transfers). There is also the option for direct deposits.

I have my ING DIRECT account over six months and I couldn't be more satisfied. Their customer service is well informed, courteous and extremely helpful. Their website contains all the necessary instructions, disclosures, policies, terms, conditions etc., in plain language. There are no surprises or hidden costs. Most importantly, their rates are the highest one can find.

Check out the website at www.ingdirect.com ... you can get the $25 account openining bonus only if some existing customer refers you.
