Been to hotel Santa Monica few times and going back next year. Love it, especially entertainment. Fantastic hotel. Love arriving there and hate leaving. Hoping to move to Calella area in the near future. Only criticism is that sometimes food not hot enough.

I would recommend the Hotel Osiris in Calella de la Costa for anyone of any age (families), and if you didn't have a great time at this hotel then I would be very surprised, as the food was good. The facilities (Sauna, jacuzzi, roof terrace, the pool, and the bar etc.) were excellent, and we were treated with respect by staff and guests alike.

We have just got back from this holiday from hell. I have got to say the Hotel Osiris is the worst hotel I have stayed in and I have stayed in lots of hotels. This hotel has a rating of 3* and I am puzzled as to how it has got this rating. The rooms are very dated, poorly decorated and very badly maintained. When arriving at the Osiris at 3am we were greeted by reception staff that was rude and very unhelpful. We got our key and went to our room the lifts were broken and we had to carry our luggage up 5 flights of stairs the lifts were out of order on and off throughout our holiday. There were 2 drunken men asleep on the lobby floor which we had to step over to use the stairs. (No wonder they did not make it to their rooms). When we got into our rooms the lighting was not working we had to go back to the reception to log this as the phone in the room was also out of order. We was told this would be fixed within 48 hours it took us 25 minutes to explain to the receptionist that this is unacceptable we ended up having to share a room with our friends. It was fixed when we made a scene in reception in the morning. The toilet flusher did not work there was no towels and once we finally got some they had stains on them (blood). The water that came out of the tapes was brown but ran clear after about 15 minutes all of the bed linen was dirty. We dared to eat in the cafeteria as we would call it, the staff was rude they snatched the plates from you before you were finished. The food was the same everyday bland undercooked and poorly presented. We all had stomach upset by the second day and did not eat in there again although we did go to see how poor it was each day. Most of the bar staff were rude.

written by SHAZABELLA on 06/08/2005

Calella de la Costa, Hotel Osiris - I've just got back from a week at this hotel. It was a good hotel with lots of entertainment for the kids, but not much for the adults unless your enjoy flamenco dancers and women in nothing much but a g-string. The food wasn't very good but at least you could get something decent from the snack bar. The downside was the kids couldn't take food, i.e., ice cream, from the snack bar and eat it outside. You couldn't relax by the pool and watch the kids because, 1) everyone took all the loungers and 2) kids kept throwing balls around the pool.

written by Ed Peter on 03/09/2004

Before our arrival at the hotel Osiris I must admit I was more than worried after the reviews I had read. But my girlfriend and I had a fantastic week there.

First Impressions Are superb the reception is more like a 5 star hotel, it is modern and air conditioned so we were both in high spirits. That said the rooms were not up to the same standard, but who goes on holiday to spend all there time in the room? The only problem we had with the room was the loud, crazy Germans next door who kept us up a fair bit; the walls are thin so take ear plugs!!!

The food was decent, after a week you will be a bit fed up of it, but it was always well cooked, and there was salad and fruit aplenty so you never went hungry. Never got up for breakfast so can't really comment on that.

The free bar is always a bonus, the beer tasted a bit watered down but eventually did the job, none of the other guests seemed to be loutish and rowdy from drinking to much, everybody was pleasant and having fun. The bar staff are moody though and occasionally rude especially the Van Nistelrooy look-alike watch out for him.

If you get the opportunity go to Barcelona it is unbelievable. Also take the excursion to the Medieval Castle it is a night you shall not forget a real laugh and a bargain for 10 euros.

The hotel Osiris is a good clean hotel; we had a great time, and would not hesitate to go again. Enjoy...

written by BeverleyN on 31/08/2004

Where do I start....The Hotel Osiris is certainly an acquired taste. Noisy, grubby and full of lager louts and foul mouthed families, it was a huge relief to come home. 10 nights stretched our patience, 14 nights would have been slow, painful torture.

On arrival we were faced with an unbearably hot and stuffy shoe box of a room (no air con) that smelt faintly like an overused ash tray that had been left to fester. This was after lugging our cases up 4 flights of stairs after finding lifts didn't work.

The following day, after being neither impressed nor dismayed with the food on offer (we hadn't set our sights very high!)we investigated further...good sized pool for families, which is a shame because the roof terrace, just for adults, only had 3 small Jacuzzis, which on sampling, were actually warm, smelled very strongly of chlorine and one didn't quite dare to think what the other strong aroma could be. Add to that sticky green felt flooring throughout, grubby loungers and cigarette ends liberally scattered - idyllic it is not.

Other amenities included an over 18s area inside, which consisted of a gym, very small indoor pool, bowling alley and table tennis. Also 2 saunas and Jacuzzis which were divided in to men and women - no mixed sexes. All of these facilities were ok, but really could have done with updating, especially the pool which was warm and not very well lit, with no window or obvious ventilation, which gave the impression of being in a muggy dungeon - bizarre. Also, although specified as 18+, we never managed to get on the table tennis as was full of kids - constantly!

Meal times were akin to feeding time at the zoo - each man for himself! Breakfast a nightmare, the noise levels alone are enough to perforate an ear drum, but serious damage could be done by the thrashing elbows and fists as hungry guests clamoured to have the last sausage! We soon gave up on breakfast and visited the snack bar mid morning - not much variety but peace and quiet won in the end!

Getting a good nights sleep there is impossible - unless like me you resort to fashioning ear plugs out of make up supplies and leaving the TV on all night. It is a fair comment that a lot of the guests at The Osiris have no consideration for the other guests and are worse than a rowdy bunch of teenagers on their first holiday aboard.

Gringo Joes, down the road, was a great bar and restaurant though, but the owner was right when informing us the locals refer to the Osiris as The Zoo....

One last thing - both I and partner developed an unsightly rash over our entire bodies, which unusually was at its worse first thing in the morning as we woke up. Strangely enough, the rash subsided when we spent the night in Barcelona, and reappeared on arrival back at the Osiris. One dares to think what was crawling in those bed sheets, although looking at some of the other guests, it really is no wonder.

I would never go back there, even if somebody paid me. The highlight of the holiday was as the coach pulled up outside the take us to the airport...

Calella de la Costa, Hotel Osiris - This hotel is not suited for families or young children.
Staff are unhelpful and rude.
The food is repeated regularly and is sometimes cold.
The facilities are for over 18 and my familiy were thrown out of the indoor pool because my son was 12. There is very little entertainment.
The hotel is very smokey and the only place that is not is the eating areas.
The reps were useless and did nothing and had no relevant information regards the area or resort. This hotel is okay if you are a drinker.
IF YOU HAVE FAMILY OR ARE A NON-SMOKER FORGET THIS HOTEL OR YOU ARE IN FOR ONE VERY UNHAPPY HOLIDAY.

Calella de la Costa, Hotel Osiris - Myself and my husband stayed there July 2003. Overall, we had a good holiday apart from a few drawbacks the staff were very miserable all of the time. A good idea would be to enploy English staff. We spent more time queueing for drinks as the plastic tubes they use are very small which held less than a half pint of liquid. The room at the back where we were was very noisy due to traffic which was going all night. Entertainment first class.

I also have visited the Hotel Osiris twice and am going back this summer for a third time. Chris and Becky are excellent reps and cater for everybody no matter what your age or interests are. Love the roof top area with a bar and jacuzzis. The best bit is that kids arent allowed. The hotel is clean and well maintained. The glass lift provides gorgeous views of the mountains in the background and the surrounding. rating 10/10!!!!!!!!!!

1. Lifts are inadequate, you will need to be very fit as you will be using the stairs a lot...this will be learn't on the first day. There are only 3 lifts which six people can squeeze into.
2. Food, please leave your taste buds at home, having a good meal here is taking your life into your own hands and cannot be assured.
3. The noise is unbearable bring your earplugs as this is an essential piece of equipment.
4. This is not a quiet hotel, do not go here if you don't have kids.
5. The rooms are clean but look like something out of the fifties - holocaust. The last time we saw bedspreads like this was on our grannies beds in the 70s.
6. Only two drinks at any one time...good if you like to get to know the barmen.
7. Kids - adults run riot all times of day, doors bang and kids stomp down the corridors screaming. 8. On arrival reception was extremely slow and the rooms were not ready (even at 1.30pm)
9. If you are a non smoker this is not the hotel for you. As soon as you hit the reception & going into the eating area there are people smoking.
10. There is an adult bar which is poorly ventilated and drinks cannot be taken from this area.

I think you were a bit hard on the hotel as you paid very little for the holiday and you only get what you pay for. The holiday is what you make of it, if you had done research on the hotel before you went you would see that it catered for children of all ages. When me and my family went on this holiday we found there was no smoking in the eating areas there was a designated smoking area near reception and out side of the dinning room we went at the hight of the season and managed to get a lift most of the time.

I don't see why everyone has to be so moany, if you are going to book a cheap holiday in a three star hotel why on earth are you expecting five star service!!!!! Maybe you should book yourself a more expensive holiday next time.

“My girlfriend and I took our first holiday abroad...”

★★★☆☆

written by Maccy. on 11/06/2003

My girlfriend and I took our first holiday abroad together to Calella and stayed in the Osiris for a week in June 2003. We've had better nights sleep in Club 18-30 hotels!!!!!!!!

First impressions
Our first impression of the Osiris was that it was a very nice and posh hotel. From the outside it looks just like the brochure, the scenic lift is very atractive. The reception staff seemed very disorganised when we checked in; After a long wait we were shuffled in front of a digital camera for individual mugshots but they failed to tell us what they were for. It was only when we returned a couple of hours later did we realise they were for our all-inclusive identification. They asked us to return later to pick up armbands! The hotel is predominately English, although you may get the odd German and Belgian family. Most guests were from Manchester, Newcastle, Scotland, Wales.

Our room

Our room was situated next to the lifts (which are very slow to arrive when called) so as you can imagine this was very noisy. The evening entertainment finishes at midnight so people head to the late night bars at the bottom of the road. People come back screaming and singing between 2 and 3am, even kids. I have always liked the Welsh but during our stay a couple of coachloads were constantly at the centre of all the noise and trouble. One night the police were called in as a waiter was assaulted. They may as well have torn down the signs asking people to obey a 11pm - 8am silence rule.... When we eventually did get to sleep we were awaken at 9am by the maids (daily service) who insist on chatting loudly to each other. Beware, not all of them knock before entering the room! We definitely needed that daily afternoon siesta.

Our accommodation was very basic, our room had 3 single beds with two pushed together, a wardrobe with safe deposit box (keys can be hired from reception), bathroom with shower, balcony containing two hard chairs, and a Television. There may as well have been no lock on the door and it looked as though someone had broken in previously. The television had the volume control disabled so you had to get a remote control from reception, but that was only a E10 returnable deposit. There are no fans or Air conditioning.

One other annoyance is the very large bathroom vent, through which we can hear people in the adjacent rooms carrying out their ablutions.

Our room faced a very busy through road towards the back of the hotel, facing thick trees and bushes. Young lads on mopeds use the road as a race/performance track and there must be at least three large dustcarts that work that route daily. And then there are the HGVs..... This has to be one of the noisiest hotels I've ever stayed in, there is no escaping it!!!

Facilities

In the basement there are excellent Saunas, Jacuzzis, a Gym, mini bowling alley and games/kids rooms. This is for over 18's only. Unfortunately these facilities are closed between 2-4pm every day, not sure why, maybe so the attendants can have a siesta!

Food

The food is not brilliant and there isn't a great choice. The snack bar seems to have the same things on offer all the time i.e. reheated leftovers from lunch/dinner.

Staff

We felt the staff could have been more pleasant, the head chef in particular. He spent most of his time banging his trolley into chairs deliberately and finding it very amusing. If looks could kill, I would have been surprised to be home now. The waiters and waitresses seem almost too keen to take your plates and glasses away and can also be
lethal with a trolley!

The resort

The beach is about 10 minutes walk away and sadly riddled with small pebbles making it very uncomfortable to walk along. The sea was too cold for us to brave, unfortunately. Your best bet would be to hire a car and sample the beaches nearer Barcelona - we found some nice secluded ones. Sacar is a fairly cheap local hire company and we booked via a small cambio down the road. They even threw in a free half day.
If you are hiring your own car be careful where you park your car around the hotel, there are clearways which we failed to notice (E70 fine) and we spent the best part of an afternoon visiting police stations to get our car back. All the motorways have tolls. There are the usual abundence of souvenir and tourist shops. Our favourites were on the Malgrat/Santa Susanna coast road - we needed two evenings to check most of them out.

Entertainment

The entertainment is excellent and was the highlight of our holiday. The animation team - Becky, Chantelle (for the kids) and Chris - worked tirelessly to make sure everyone was involved and having fun. There is always something going on from quizzes to sport to karaoke.

There is a TV in every room with DVD channel showing three recentish films a day starting at 4.30, 9.30, 11.30. The usual local Spanish channels are there as well as CNN, BBC World and a couple of German and Italian stations.

Conclusions

Our advice would be if you are expecting to get more than a little sleep and good food, then this hotel is not the one for you. The food is not great, but I suppose you get what you pay for, we booked very last minute. You might like to sample Santa Susanna, adjacent to Calella which has better shops, beach and hotels (from what we heard).
