I have a Sharp GX32 mobile phone, and people know it's different, but let me tell you, it's the best phone I have ever used. Well for one, I used the Sharp GX10 with Vodafone live settings and pxt settings; I rang up Vodafone and they enabled the pxt settings "I said it was a Sharp GX30". Ha, now I have Vodafone live, and I can download the same as the normal Vodafone live phones. I got a larger battery for mine as well. This was $100 cheaper. 10/10. This phone is great!

Had a Sharp since the GX10, Brilliant phone in most ways, slightly larger but you get a lot in it. Amazing screen and camera most of the time. Plays games well, and feel nice and solid.
Shame about no MP3 tones and the Bluetooth which is locked to hand free only!!! Also rubbish reception compared to GX10/20.

I love Sharp phones so I decided to upgrade from a GX10 to a GX30. It is a very smart looking phone, the camera is fantastic, the video is pretty good too! The only bad thing I have to say is the fact that when a word isn't in the T9 dictionary, in other Sharp phones you can spell the word out and save it to your dictionary but on this one you can't so you have to retype it everytime you use that word and to do that you have to keep going through the options menu and select input method and you're going backwards 'n forwards all the time, especially if you swear a lot like I do. But yeah, good phone in general.

“Good points: ”

Good points:
The Sharp GX30 is superb. The camera is magnificent giving brilliant pics. The lights are really good for a torch and flash, the photo effects are good, bomblink is very, very addictive the video camera is OK and the outer screen is good. However the screen is the best ting about it.

The bad points are:
Bad shutter speed, Mp3s being in one long list so you have to scroll through all of them, easily scratched, alarms don't go off if the phone is off like the NOKIA 3510i (which is a basic and poor phone) it doesn't have a stopwatch. Not very reliable (breaks down a lot)

Ordered this from FoneShop.com and had it delivered to me next day. 2 colour screens is a great touch and resolution on inside screen is particularly good - particularly when taking pix with the 1.3 megapixel camera. Nice to get photos that finally don't look like they were taken with a phone! Removable SD memory card is v useful for extra memory space. Only flaw is that it's quite chunky - but then what do you expect for a phone packed with this many features!

The GX30 is an upgrade from a GX10i phone. I'm really pleased with it, it looks fantastic and is ten times better than my previous phone. Screen quality is fantastic, menu looks nice, easy to use, lots of memory and great camera. I only have one problem with it, I have an imac computer and am unable to download any of the photos I have taken (my memory's almost full). I bought a Bluetooth connector but no joy. Has anyone been able to do this?

Bought my Sharp GX30 when it was released, upgraded from GX10i. Thought it was a little pricey, even with my contract reduction was a shade over £200.

Was a little disappointed with only the one game acommpanyment. Also wish they'd allow more characters per text, I've done text before now, then when sending, is multiple sms (2-3+).

Good phone all-in-all.

“I think the Sharp GX30 is definitely the best phone...”

written by ciaros on 30/06/2004

I think the Sharp GX30 is definitely the best phone around and by far, this time next year it will still be a very modern phone. The screens quality is superb even in direct sunlight and the exterior screen means you can select a portion of a picture as a small wallpaper. The camera itself delivers what most people would expect from a budget digital camera if not better, I managed to resize to A4 and there was still a good quality picture.

I have heard many people criticise the phones size (slightly bigger than the GX20) but what do you expect with the worlds highest resolution camera phone, MP3 player and organiser?

It has a built in 2.5 mm jack socket so you can listen to MP3s in mono (or buy stereo headphones separately) and the sound quality is quite good, although obviously not the same standard as coming through an actual MP3 player.

The battery takes about 2 hours to charge and can last an unbelievable amount of time. I have managed to go a full day with calls, using the camera and messing around without the first battery bar to even move, whether it "jumps" quickly I'm not sure of yet.

Overall the phone is a very smart and sophisticated piece of technology. For those who'd like an expensive, good looking toy I'd highly recommend it however if you'd prefer phones that don't do so much then save yourself some money and don't bother!

“The Sharp GX30 mobile phone comes with the usual -...”

★★★★★

written by beveragebloke on 18/06/2004

The Sharp GX30 mobile phone comes with the usual - phone, battery, charger, pc software cd, looooooong manual etc but unlike many older models, extended memory in the form of an 8MB SD card - upgradeable to a larger size if needs be.

I have only had the phone two days so i am only basing this review on the features i have used.

The first thing that hit me was the sheer quality of the screen, it is way behond any phone i have seen, apart from maybe the SE P900.

The phone i had previously was the Nokia 7650. I thought the screen on that was great but i would only rate it at about 30% of the GX30's screen, its THAT good.

I guess most people will be attracted to this phone because of the 1 MEGAPIXEL camera. Well it is outstanding - well beyond my old 7650.

There are 5 different picture sizes to choose from ranging from Small (120 X 160) to XL (858 X 1144) with the amount of zoom decreasing with the larger picture size. For example the small picture size has a 20 step zoom while the large has a 4 step.

You can alter the brightness while taking the picture and use the light (which doubles up as a torch) to help in darker situations.

To sum up the screen/pictures they have to be seen to be believed, i can gurantee you will not be dissapointed.

I am currently waiting for my SD card reader before i begin transferring files to and from my pc, including MP3's (yes, the phone also doubles up as a MP3 player).

The only major problems i have found are the inability to change the colour theme - because the phone is a Vodafone exclusive the theme is red. Also the bluetooth feature is only used for handsfree headsets not data transfer.

If you want a good phone with a second to none camera then this is your answer!
