written by Mikele on 18/09/2008

I am looking for an update but having looked at all reasonably priced phones,less than £100, the only phone I can find is another Sony Erisson K800i which has far too many items on it than I require.
Go back to making simple everyday phones loud enough to hear and better signal reception!.
I think I will stick to the phone I have.

If my Sony Ericsson K700i phone worked properly, I'd love it, but for now, I'm afraid that I'm a bit disappointed. Many of my friends have this phone, and have warned me about the joystick and guess what? Mine has now broken as well!
But overall, a great phone for the money.

I love the Sony Ericsson K700i mobile phone. I love the bluetooth. I love the MP3 player and everything. It has a neat little camera. Orange offer a great service as well.

The joystick is a bit iffy, but then again, not every phone is perfect! Joints on flip phones get loose and break off. The Sony slides sometimes come off... See!

I recommend this phone to anyone who wants a nice little phone.

The Sony Ericsson K700i is a good mobile phone! It has lasted a long time. I usually break a phone after about 2 months, but this one has lasted nearly a year now, so this phone is ACE!!!

“The Sony Ericsson K700i mobile phone has many good...”

★★★★☆

written by poopz on 18/12/2005

The Sony Ericsson K700i mobile phone has many good points, but also a few bad points...

*Good points:*

Themes (downloadable)
Pretty loud tones (make sure the MP3 you download is of good quality and loud already)
Pretty large phone book memory
A lot of useful phone profiles
Alarm is very GOOD (wakes me up every morning). You can set MP3 files as alarm tones too
Calendar
To do list
Notes (can be sent as text messages to another Sony Ericsson phone through bluetooth if you don't have anything to do)
Sms counter
Radio (FM)
Phone shortcuts (can be changed according to your preference)
Call timers
Small and light
Easy to text (keys stick out enough)
Pretty good camera (considering it's a VGA camera)
Has a flash feature (but it doesn't really help in taking good night pictures, could be a good torch though)
When the phone is in idle mode, an envelope comes out to indicate messages, and a red arrow appears if a call was missed
Power save feature (doesn't really help in battery saving though)
Templates and drafts (very useful)
File manager gives you a summary on your remaining memory left, and the certain areas of the phone that take up memory (with how much memory it has already taken up)
Pretty good JAVA games
Can erase the default pictures, and sounds etc., so you have more memory (certain files are protected though, so they can't be renamed, moved to different folders or deleted, but there aren't many of them)
Quite durable (I've dropped it a few times already and it's still intact)
Bluetooth is brilliant!
Infrared is pretty good as well (but won't be needed much unless the phone your sending the file to doesn't have bluetooth)
Scratches don't leave white marks on the phone (not like silver Samsung phones)
Red light on top of the phone blinks to indicate low battery (expect that thing to be blinking a lot)
You can segregate your pictures into separate files
Good signal

*Bad points:*

Can't use an MP3 for message alert tones
Sometimes the person's name doesn't come up when you receive a text from them, and you have to save their number under their name again (this happens more than once)
The back cover scratches really easily
Does not have changeable covers
It is TOO bright in a really dark room (for example, if you're asleep and you wake up in the middle of the night because you had to text someone or call someone... the light on the K700i IS LITERALLY BLINDING, and you would need about 5 minutes to get your eyes to adjust to the brightness after just being asleep)
Sometimes, when you call someone... their number is right... but their name is someone else's (you have to edit the contact detail again)
Sometimes, you can't hear the phone when it rings... (depends on the quality of the MP3 files you've downloaded)
Vibrate doesn't really help, especially if the phone is in your bag or purse
The joystick gets ruined easily, especially when you're the type who sticks your phone into your pockets all the time
Sometimes you can't receive messages straight away (they either come minutes later or never come at all)
You are only allowed 95 - 97 SMS messages to be stored in the phone (even though you delete all your picture and video files... the message memory will remain the same)
It can only hold approximately 5 - 6 FULL MP3 songs
If you want larger pictures for your PC, don't take them at the largest setting on your phone (the pictures come out distorted and grainy), I suggest you take them at the MEDIUM setting and just enlarge them using your PC... they'll come out 10x better, but still not THAT CLEAR (unless it's in good light. Good lighting is a MUST if you want pretty good pictures)
The phone needs to be charged every day with regular use (does not last for 3 days - you'll be lucky if it lasts for 2 days)
The calculator will take some getting used to
The rubber flap at the bottom comes loose very easily
The QUICKSHARE sticker will not be there any more in 7 months
Charging youur phone is annoying and frustrating (one slight move of the wire, the message OPTIMUM CHARGING flashes on the screen. It's annoying, especially when you're trying to compose a text message. If you accidentally tug on the wire, the message comes up and you have to press OK before it goes away, and this happens every time you ACCIDENTALLY tug the OH SO SENSITIVE wire)
Pics that are taken in dark lighting are very bad!
The memory is so so (it either needs more internal memory, let's say 92MB, or it needs expandable memory)
Its rather smooth cover makes your hands sweat
After turning it off, it takes a while before you can immediately turn it on again (sometimes it takes so long, you have to take the battery out then put it in again)
Rubbish video (can hardly see anything, especially when you're moving a lot while videoing)
MP3 playback is distorted, especially when you use it for ring tones
The joystick is gone after a few months (which basically means you can't do anything because you need the joystick for practically everything)

The Sony Ericsson K700i is a nice, modern mobile phone. It's small, has most features of the best phones, but I think there are some features of my last phone which Sony Ericsson managed to overlook and not add into this phone.

One thing which stood out for me was that when you recorded something you couldn't have it as a ringtone, well, you could, but it was VERY quiet.

Despite that I do think this is an overall excellent phone, and Sony Ericsson's next phone will hopefully have the missing features.

written by tancy6 on 12/11/2005

The main problem with the Sony Ericsson K700i is that the joystick freezes and you have to wait a minute and try again to gain access to the menu.
The outside look also isn't very nice (not for a lady). The screen is very bright and huge, and what is the most useful thing beside phoning and sending messages - the light. But since a lot of phones have a light, that is not so important.
The security shield that protects the phone on the bottom can become a bit shaggy, and I tore it down since it wasn't in function.
I like the strength of sound of the speakers, because you can hear really loud music, but it has got only 41MB of storage space.
The menu is very useful, and the address book also.

The phone is useful, and was one of the cheapest with Bluetooth, and can also be used to make connection to the internet through the notebook.
It is certainly better than some old Nokia's that I have had before. Definitely worth trying.
I was only shocked that the batteries lasted only three days if I used the mobile phone a bit more often.

Good points about the Sony Ericsson K700i are its excellent screen, innumerable features and it is excellent to look at. However the short life of the battery lets it down.

The Sony Ericsson K700i has an excellent screen and is equipped with numerous features.
It even is a vey good looking phone and is not too big or thick. I think the only bad feature is the short battery life.

The Sony Ericsson K700i is a simple,yet very effective phone.Only gripe really is the battery life, and the small buttons for texting with. It also takes some getting used to the Joystick for getting about with. I've only had mine a short time I will admit, but I would say it's one of the best phones I've had,(I've had about 20!). I got it Pay as you Go for a mere £ 79.99 on Vodafone. Yet the same phone on Orange was £149.99. Making it the cheapest phone with all the specs on it around.
Bluetooth is just amazing, as is the Infra red. And the radio needs to be heard to be believed. It is truly a unique phone for an incredible price.
Get it at all cost!

The Sony Ericsson K700i camera has very good picture quality, good colour screen, battery life brilliant, good memory when I swapped if for the 750i it was holding 90 messages and 151 good quality photos. I really struggled to find something any better. All the upgrades I was originally offered weren't even as good. BY FAR THE BEST PHONE I HAVE EVER HAD.

“Sony Ericsson's prime products usually achieve the top...”

★★★★★

written by silvermage on 23/07/2005

Sony Ericsson's prime products usually achieve the top score in the mobile chart. The K700i adds additional functionality to the popular and highly-rated Sony T630 phone.

K700i is the phone I'm using currently but looking to move to the top hierarchy phone - S700i - a flip phone that's a worthy successor to K700i.

Prominent Features
--------
* Colour display (65,536 colours, 176 x 220 pixels)
* Integrated VGA camera with video recorder (Including Sound)
* Bluetooth, Infrared and Cable (USB & RS232) connectivity
* Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS)
* Downloadable 40-voice polyphonic & mono ringtones, Plus ringtone Creator/Editor (MusicDJ )
* Downloadable Java games
* FM radio and MP3 player
* WAP 2.0 (GPRS), Email
* High Speed Data (HSCSD - up to 28.8 kbps)
* Speed dialling & Voice dialling
* Joystick, Camera button, Navigation key, Menu shortcuts
* Predictive text (T9)
* Mobile Chat
* Voice Memo / Recorder
* Speaker Phone
* Picture Phone book
* Wallpaper, screensaver and themes (all downloadable)
* Calculator, calendar, alarm, stopwatch
* Sync ML
* Memory: 41 Mbytes In-built
* Size: 99 x 47 x 20 mm
* Weight: 93g
* Battery standby: 300 hours
* Battery talktime: 8 hours
* Vibration alert
* Sleep mode
* Tri band

Comparison to Competition
--------
Compared to the most-selling phone of this category - Nokia 6600 - k700i seems to be the conspicuous winner.

* Less Weight & Size yet the same features.
* FM Radio, Cool Enough!
* MusicDJ, Create/Edit your own tunes.
* Easily upgradable firmware unlike other phones. Firmware, Email, MMS and most other settings can automatically be done over the Sony Ericsson Website. Quite Unique, after all, its Sony!

Hmm, What Else?
--------
Well, enough of veneration, lets discuss the intricacies now.

* Camera Sound: While recording a piece of video, it records the sound as well, which isn't usually good, not for me at least.
* No Upgradable Memory: The phone has almost everything you'd wish for, but unfortunately you seem to have forgotten to 'wish' for an option for Updgradable Memory.
* Sony OS: K700i uses the default Sony Ericsson OS instead of Symbian - the highly scalable and most preferred - OS, used by almost every Nokia high-end phone.

Updated
--------
Message, Ringtones, Phonebook, etc. storage depends completely upon the memory size. Since the in-built memory is 42mb, it can store an adequate amount of data.

As for sound and voice clarity, k700i's default sound is low, but once you set the equalizer correctly, people around would look harshly at you! ;)

Another (negative) point I forgot to mention is that the edges at the top is just too damn sharp and always uncomfortable when placed on the ear. Although it completely depends on the usage, but I had serious troubles till I learnt to put it on the ear correctly.

Quite clearly and undoubtedly, K700i is a classy product in its category. A truly deserving winner!

Sony Ericsson K700i - I bought it 10 days ago. I have never used a Sony Ericsson before, I have had phones by Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Siemens before, but I found that it is better than all of these. Having 41mb memory is really great. MP3 GP and polyphonic ringtons and brilliant and it is easy to exchange data with my PC through bluetooth, infrared and a data cable.

Two problems exists on this phone. One is the battery does not stay charged for more than 36-48 hours and the other is that there must be a password on the folders and files but you can't put a password on the pictures.

Ok, I like the phone but by no means will anything be more simpler than a Nokia, I basically brought a SE because I was getting fed up year in year out of Nokia's same layout, it was getting depressing as far as phones go I wanted a change (MID LIFE CHRISIS)????????? Anyways, yeah the phone is OK the fiddly joystick is annoy but most of the time I use Bluetooth and only use the phone book on the phone and the odd text with the kids as I have a i-paq to do everything else but I am unsure of what I will buy next I am pretty usually to tell you of the features I haven't even used the camera but I like it for what it is to some extent anyone know of another really good phone that isn't a Nokia, the reason for me choosing phone is that my daughter in-law had one.

Not owned a Sony before so thought this would be the perfect phone to start with. Very impressed so far, not caused me any problems and pretty straight forward to grasp. People give bad comments regarding battery life but I find mine is OK apart from if I've been using bluetooth a lot. Only annoying thing is that the joystick is a bit on the fiddly side, I often find that I have selected something I didn't want. Like how the predictive text works by remembering most common words used. Camera is pretty average in comparrison to phones on the market, but I would say that all the other features make up for it. After all its pretty hard to find a perfect phone so you need to decide whats important to you.

This is a great little phone. I've previously had Nokias so was a bit dubious about trying something new. The battery life is not as good as a Nokia but that is far out weighed by the spec of the phone. The camera is better than a Nokia. The address book has more features. The buttons are nice to use. It's just great if you're not on Vodafone. Having said that I can get mine replaced free but I am reluctant.

★★★★★

written by Tazza on 14/02/2005

I was a bit put off buying this phone by some of the reviews on this site, but I decided to go for it anyway... and I am delighted I did.

It's everything you could want from a phone and more. It's got so many great features, some of them you'd probably use once or twice, or never at all, but it's good to know they're there.

The camera quality could be better, but it's certainly sufficient for what I use it for, and the video is great. The only thing that really gets me about the camera is that you can't turn the camera shutter noise off. Even if the phone's on silent, the noise is still there... and it's not exactly the best of noises either, and it can't be changed. I suppose it protects against people taking someone's picture without them knowing, but it means you can't use it in a quiet environment, e.g. lectures, meetings etc.

The K700i looks sleek and stylish both ways up, with a brushed metal look. The screen is large, bright and colourful which makes navigating around that much better. It's really easy to find things that you want to do, as the menu has been put together with some common sense.

Organising the phone is really easy as well. You can synchronise the phone with all of your contacts from your computer. I didn't have to input a single contact manually which saved me a lot of time and effort. You can also create folders and move things into them really easily, keeping your pictures and files organised. One thing I would recommend is to buy a data cable, which makes all of this much quicker. Even though the phone does have an infrared port and bluetooth, I found both of these can be quite slow when connected to my laptop or desktop. You can pick a genuine Sony Ericsson one up for around £20, or a non-genuine one for half that.

The ringtones are brilliant. They are really loud and speaker quality is excellent. I only use it on level 6 and I can hear my phone ringing from a long way away. I haven't tried level 10, and I don't think I will, just in case I break the speaker! It's quite funny because after level 5, a warning comes up saying that "loud ringtones can damage your hearing"!! Very thoughtful of Sony Ericsson.

Many people have said that the battery life on this phone isn't anything too special, but I think it's fine. Currently I only charge my phone every 2 or 3 days, and that's with moderate usage of bluetooth, texting and voice calls.

One really minor downside, is that the centre joystick in my opinion is a bit on the large side. This means that when you want to navigate around a menu, you sometimes end up selecting things. Maybe this is just me being clumsy, but a couple of my friends have said that they have the same problem.

This is an excellent phone which will not leave you disappointed.

Sony has launched a champion in this cateogary. It has almost all the functions normally used & available. Change covers on Nokia can't be done. As always the camera is not so good but that's true for any mobile camera even the Sharp GX30 can't match to a digital camera. Not many MP3's can be stored in 41 mb memory so can't use it as player. But you can set 'em as ringtones which are very audible & nice addition to its pleasures.

OVERALL IT'S A GREAT PHONE & A MUST BUY IF YOUR BUDGET ALLOWS.
If you wanna spend some less go for sony k500i having all OK k700's features except 12mb memory, and radio & bluetooth are missing.
