“Absolute rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ollie999 on 18/03/2022

Online banking app not working so I tried to call and a robot answered the phone and wouldn't let me speak to anyone. It just kept telling me to log on to the online banking app. How? I tried calling telephone banking to make payment and exactly the same robot told me to use the online banking app to make payments. Ridiculous. I registered a complaint on the website and it said someone would get back to me within 5 days. Absolute garbage customer service

“HSBC is the worst bank”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Gonzaleswt1974 on 31/05/2021

I started using HSBC when they lured me in as a student with a free overdraft. Being naive I did not know how they would get their pound of flesh and another pound and another until there was very little of me left. My current account was with HSBC and later my business account also. I trusted them. Over the years they exploited me time and time again. Why did I feel loyalty to this bank? It must be because I believed they had helped me as a student. I know realise it was like a drug dealer or pimp or prison "friend", securing devotion, with an apparently free gift. I finally closed my HSBC accounts when, during this pandemic, not only did they offer me zero help, but they piled charge upon charge, fining me, when they are the ones who made mistakes. I am now pursuing my case via the banking ombudsman. Their online banking experience is dire. Their website is slow and difficult to use. Their staff are rude. They treated me with contempt even though I had been a loyal customer for years.

“THE WORST BANK EVER”

★☆☆☆☆

written by mauricedegraaf on 10/12/2020

Utterly utterly frustrating, prehistoric, lacking any normal modern logic, insanely customer unfriendly. I can talk for hours about my frustration with them, really. It has been the worst frustration of my entire life and I will never ever want to deal with them again

“A poor excuse of a bank”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KaseySmith351 on 25/11/2019

In the past couple of weeks I have had a number of serious issues with HSBC, there were two counts of fraudulent activity on my account and due to the poor response of their useless customer service team the problem remains unsolved. I no longer have access to my account as they have removed me from online banking and when I attempt to re-register it tells me I cannot do so because I do not have an "active online banking account", well obviously if they have closed it down and I am trying to re-register. They are a pathetic excuse for a bank and have the slowest, poorest responses team across any bank I have ever been in contact with. Due to the fact that my account is student bank account I am currently tied with them until I graduate, after this I will never bank with HSBC again they are horrendous and wouldn't recommend them to anybody. I have currently been on hold for 2 hours with their customer services! DISGUSTING

“ZERO STARS FOR THIS CRAPPY BANK!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by laurenmessmer on 13/09/2019

HSBC credit card is THE WORST!! I only put one star on there because I was required!!! The service is terrible, the technology is terrible--- it is ALL terrible!!! They make it hard to pay your bills. You have to wait on hold for almost an hour on the regular (because their website and app suck!) They put my card on a security hold for NO reason! I have now been on hold for 1 hour- and this isn't the first time I have had to wait this long to talk to anyone!! When you do finally speak to someone, they are hard to understand and have a hard time understanding me. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Not even worth it for a 0% interest card. Do NOT do it!

“Hsbc are the worst bank ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RLdwbltd on 17/06/2019

After being a hsbc customer for over 20 years, hsbc decide its time they ask me to provide evidence of my identity with their safeguard policy. I had 2 business accounts with them which caused there automation great confusion as they couldn’t differentiate between the two. Cut a story short they cancelled my account on the basis that I haven’t provided them required info when I had done they just couldn’t process it properly. They suck when it comes to banking. Out dated and useless. Moved to starling bank now. Life so much better!!

“Flow chart slaves and dubious ethics.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by M_Evans on 03/05/2019

A dispute of £30 on my HSBC personal credit card (Which I regularly paid off in full) grew to one of several hundreds (They were, in effect, trying to charge somewhere in the region of 1500% interest on a disputed item), due to the failure of HSBC to deal with it. I also had business accounts with HSBC. Neither the business, nor personal account people would deal with it and their complete lack of initiative (Any disputed item should be set aside whilst it is ongoing) and their buck passing has lost them all my accounts (All well in credit), plus two household insurance policies. I would also refer to my father’s savings account, which they closed. The reason given was that it was inactive, despite him having an active current account. You would have thought that they would have realised that savings accounts are not generally used for day to day banking but this clearly is not the case. I am sure that if breathing were not an automatic bodily function, unless the procedure was covered by a flowchart, most of today’s bank staff would suffocate

“Smooth & speedy opening account & registering evrything”

★★★★★

written by DunxW on 02/01/2019

I walked in to my local branch of HSBC without an appointment and within half an hour I walked out with a new account, with everything set up ready to go: Account number and sort code provided Online banking set up Telephone banking set up Mobile phone app installed and configured Debit card ordered Security device for online, two step security provided. The staff member that deals with new accounts was on her lunch break but cut it short to serve me. The whole process was very easy at every step and I walked out as a happy new customer of HSBC. Back at home it was very easy to log in to online banking. Security is excellent, needing username, secret question and security code from external device. The website is easy to use, well laid out and provides excellent functionality for managing your money. Recent and pending transactions are shown, as well as full statements to view or download. Transferring money is easy to set up and use, including regular Standing Orders and Direct Debits, plus ad-hoc transfers. In branch assistance has always been excellent with minimal queues and friendly staff. I had never used HSBC before and chose them off the cuff as I needed an account opening and they happened to be the nearest on the high street. I can't fault the service I have had from HSBC and have no qualms about recommending them.

“beware before opening an account”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Vega385 on 23/02/2018

My parent has a joint saving account at HSBC bank in Malang, Indonesia (HSBS took over Bank Ekonomi). When my dad passed away, my mom wanted to take some of the money but they said she need to show family registry and approval letter from me and my brother. My brother and I live in US and we don't have anything to do with their account. Then after they got everything they want, they told my mom that she can only withdraw $500 each time. So my mom wanted to close the account, they said there was a fee to close the account. This account is not cd account just simple saving account. So basically, they will give you nice smile when you bring your money in and they frowned when you make withdrawals. Horrible bank. I would give a 0 star if I could. I write this review to warn people beware of this bank. Think hard even before you step inside.

“Please leave the UK hsbc you suck !”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Terriblestateofaffairs on 11/09/2017

I've banked with hsbc for a long time both personal and Business accounts finally my loyalty to them is over they closed my farm business account because I missed a letter to fill in a survey about safeguarding for the reasoning that I will be safer from fraud. well closing an account without due regard to a customer who has lived all their life at the same rural address without giving me a polite reminder when I called into branch to pay cheques almost has put me into an early grave there is no face to face relationship between hsbc and their customers anymore!! only what some idiots program's into their system they do not care about personal relationships they are closing more rural banks than ever whilst employing call centres from India to handle its customers! talk about not looking after your own if these sheisters left this country after brexit would we be any worse off ? the Answer Is No Because All They Do Is treat british people badly and pretend to care !!!!! They dont!! Loyalty is not rewarded by them Interest is not paid by these clowns nothing nada zilch please avoid my mistake of staying with the same parasitic organisation for too long and no matter how interesting the carrot they dangle in front of you through glossy advertising remember this they will screw you !

“Bad customer service ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 310Fitch on 15/05/2017

HSBC have too many passwords (which you constantly forget. Their app is confusing and not user friendly. Appointments with staff are inefficient. Trying to call and speak to someone on the phone is lengthy and does not always solve the problem at hand. I've now moved to Metro bank, who I highly recommend.

“Poor banking service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DestinyCoffey462 on 26/02/2017

HSBC banking services are deteriorating over last couple of years. HSBC staffs are in denial & they believe every thing is perfect. I have been with them for about 11 years & used to phone them every couple of years when I faced a banking problem. Nowadays, I have to phone them couple of times every months at least. Most of their staffs are unexperienced, can not sort out my banking issues, long wait to get hold of one of their agents. Today it took me 31 minutes in total to speak with two agents with a very difficult to understand Indian accent & they did not solve the problem. It is nightmare to continue banking with them. It is waste of time & money to deal with such bank & its inefficient staffs

“Poor on-line banking security app”

★★☆☆☆

written by Fraser2010 on 05/09/2016

After you download the HSBC App from the App Store (2 star rated) it doesn't work. You have to ring their team (in India) for a code that you need to enter to upgrade the app so that can generate security codes for you to, for example, set up a direct debit on your on-line bank account. However HSBC do not give you the number to call. Its not on the app you download, impossible to find in their 'no help' on-line help and, its seems, their on-line chat people are not aware of it either as they gave me an out of date number. When I called it HSBC had a recorded message telling me to ring a different number (how antiquated, surely they could automatically redirect the call??). Then the team there put me through to the correct team in India. I had to hang on listening to music twice. This music is so quiet that, even using a speaker phone, its such a poor quality VOIP line that you cannot risk putting the receiver down as you will not hear the tiny squeaky voice of the person who finally answers. Finally I completed their process and it worked. However a couple of months later the app was corrupted and, guess what, I had to do this all over again. Make a note of this number, you will need it.  I wish I had the first time. HSBC - don't be so deliberately unhelpful by hiding your contact telephone number for a process you DO NOT allow your customers to complete on line.

“Eye catching Market leading APR 3.3% but offered 16.9%!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AhmedFitzgerald1990 on 18/07/2016

HSBC Bank is a master swindler. I have been a loyal Premier customer with them for more than 8 years. And have good credit scores. I saw a market leading rate of 3.3% which was eye catching. I applied and lo and behold, they say now it's going to be 16.9%. This has adversely affected my credit score even though I clearly withdrew the application because of the APR. This should be reported to the FCA, the banks should not get away by advertising rates no one ever gets.

“Refincing process is the Worst !!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Notimeforfoolishness on 14/06/2016

After what I have been in a refinancing process with HSBC (my Mortgage Company for many years). This long drawn out misery started in February 2016, it is now June 2016. As a Veteran I believe I deserve better service than this. I am held to this process by a document stating that they receive $500.00 dollars regardless if I continue with them or not. I have spoken with at the least (4) different individuals who all say the same thing that everything is being held up by the UNDER WRITING department. No one gets back to you , they continuously place the blame on each other. Each time I do get in touch with someone they ask for something different or request the same information/ documents over and again.

“What happened?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by TitusElliott258 on 13/05/2016

I used to love this bank. Everything could be handled locally in branch. Now everything goes to a call centre in India. The staff in the branch are a skeleton crew, poorly trained and jaded. Even reactivating my ISA took 3 trips to town and two 40 minute meetings, 4 phone calls and a written complaint threatening tomove banks. Why? Because staff in store didn't tick a box on the form. Internet banking is ok when it works. Most evenings it is down. Accessing via the app is pointless and bound to get you locked out with the press of a button. Error pages abound! logging in online is complex requiring multiple passcodes and activation keys. Having trouble? Just call the helpline, wait 45 minutes and speak to a crackly Indian voice who is unhelpful, confusing and never calls back when promised. Unapologetic and rude, they know they are not accountable for a thing, so fob you off or pass you about. Ive played it sweet, been polite, patient, stern and firm. Nothing will help unless your issue is the simplest of problems they can fix by pressing a few keys. My online banking crashed and needed complete resetting. They couldnt get there head around it and wanted me to register repeatedly until they gave up and I have called the Ombudsmen. Want to bank in branch? Only if you don't have a job! They close by 5pm and no Saturday clerks. I hate this bank and I am looking for a simpler, more accessable account with UK call handlers.

“Amazing!”

★★★★☆

written by Erinnthomaas on 11/05/2016

Even though I was on hold for 10 minutes this morning waiting for an agent to answer I had one the best customer service over the phone that I've ever had. The gentleman (can't remember his name) was so helpful and made sure I knew exactly what was going on. He dealt with a fraudulent issue in less than 10 minutes and his advice really made me feel as ease. I don't know why people are complaining - maybe it was just my luck that I had a good agent to talk too.

“ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Claudia449 on 18/03/2016

hsbc is appalling, their customer service is terrible. They have moved all their customer services to India and you spend ages on the phone, not being helped in the slightest to people who do not care. I went into the bank to try sort out my problem, which was initially because they have allowed me to have an overdraft without even informing me. They tried to justify this with you should get a text saying your bank needs to be in balance by a certain time that night- BIT LATE WOULD YOU NOT AGREE? If they had told me before I could go over I would have been a bit more careful, and on top of that then charging me a disgusting amount of money when it is not in balance. going into my local branch the man replied that there is not anything he can do about it and walked off- RUDE RUDE RUDE If I can give you one piece of advice it would be to never join HSBC- any bank in the world would be better then this. I am leaving today and can honestly say It'll be the best decision I've made in a long long time
