“My dogs love Chappie”

★★★★★

written by ChanaBrown144 on 16/01/2015

My vet recommended that I feed one of my dogs on Chappie - he had had very low protein level, amongst other problems, and was put on a fish/chicken only diet for several weeks. I read many reviews on Chappie, some glowing, some saying it was the worst food available. I can only say that he loves this food, both the fish wet and the dry varieties - I've never seen him so excited about meal times and I've fed him on some of the best and expensive foods over the years. I've also added some to my GSD's Autarky food, which he had rather gone off, and he too can't wait for meal times. So far no signs of the dreaded "passing right through" (always a problem with GSDs), so after 10 days on this food, both dogs are really happy with it and if they're happy ................. The tins of food are solid and not sloppy with added gravy/jelly

“Chappies is the best dog food ever for my boy!”

★★★★★

written by RottieLover01 on 14/11/2012

Chappies has been a major hit with my dog. I own a very large and beautiful rottweiler named Diesel who will eat everything and anything if he can get his mouth on it! Over the past four months he has had a very bad stomach and extremely bad diarrhea! Everything we were feeding him was just coming out like liquid and sick! We were forced to put him on a bland diet as we tried every food that was recommended to us and nothing would work. We were feeding him rice and meat as it was the only thing that would work. We put him into the kennels for a week while we were on holiday and explained to the gentleman who owned the kennels about my dogs diet problems. He explained that he had a rottweiler whose stomach had been exactly the same before he had started feeding him Chappies. We gave him permission to put Diesel on this diet as well and see if it worked as nothing else had worked. When we got back if was to our delight that we had discovered chappies had worked it's magic and Diesel's digestive system was perfect! He was and still is going to the toilet as normal and has never been sick again since! He really enjoys chappies and woolfs it down at every meal. We also add a raw egg to his meal occasionally as this is what the gentleman from the kennels had done with his dog and Diesel's coat is now looking fantastic and shiny as well. We bought a massive bag of chappies from our local pet store for something like £17 which I think is amazing value for money due to the large amount that you get in the bag. We had tried gluten free food from the vet and other brands of dog food and they were ridiculously expensive. Chappies may be a lot cheaper but it is the only food that has worked for us! Diesel certainly seems to enjoy it and his health has improved substantially which is the main priority to me! £17 for a bag of food which has saved me vet bills, forking out on expensive food and my dogs health is a bargain as far as I'm concerned. I will continue to feed Diesel on Chappies in the long term and can't praise it enough. Thank you Chappies!

★★★★★

written by on 06/04/2012

we,ve kept german shephards for years and our vet has always recomended dry and tinned chappie. we have kept our last 5 dogs on this and never had any problems with their digestion since feeding them this. one of our girls became diabetic which hadn,t been obvious due to weight loss or other normal signs because chappie is also recomended for diabetic dogs. we originally used it for a very sickly pup who we fostered from a breeder. their vet said the pup would probably die due to vomiting after every feed with several different foods, our vet said try chappie its one of the best foods you can give a dog. people just dont trust it because its cheap! we,ve used nothing else since (20 years) and our sickly pup died at 13 years old.

We gave a 8 month female German Shepherd and she has had colits twice and now found she has bowel syndrome ~ our vet also suggested Chappie.

We have had her on chappie now for over a month and its great
We also tried half dried chappie and half tin chappie ~ she loved it and her digestive & bowel systems seems great.

Nothing wrong with CHAPPIE !!!!!!

This is for Evancs
You still can get Original Chappie
I know you can get it on internet
To be honest, I dont know what to feed my dog on when the Original Chappie does eventually run out.....
I wish they would just leave things alone.

So what is everyone feeding their dogs now? I tried the Turkey and Rice James Wellbeloved as our Lab allergic to beef but she's put on loads of weight already so I am looking for a lighter alternative. Plus it was really expensive! Any ideas?

Hi I totally agree.
I have a 8 month old female German Shepherd and she has had colits twice and also has bowel syndrome. We had her on JWB and also tried Walfcol ~ they were no good at all ~ the Vet advised to use Chappie Original and it has worked a treat.
Just shows ~ you dont have to spend alot of money on named brands.
Wish I had done it sooner.

“My dogs (Cavalier King Charles Spaniels) are all now...”

★★★★★

written by on 08/05/2011

My dogs (Cavalier King Charles Spaniels) are all now on the canned variety of Chappie, and are doing really well. All runny poos a distant memory, no more gurgling tummies and trips to vet. Our vet actually recommended Chappie! (which is a revelation as so many vets promote expensive makes). Their coats have never been so silky and shiny. Would tell anyone to give it a go, whether you prefer the canned or dried varieties. Most supermarkets stock both (even Iceland!)
Wish I had read reviews ages ago, and wasted cupboard full of different dog foods.

“I cannot praise Chappie enough. My 11 year labradorX...”

★★★★★

written by on 25/04/2011

I cannot praise Chappie enough. My 11 year labradorX has been at deaths door, with a severe case of pancreatitis (was on a drip at the vets for 4 days), and also collitis. He got well enough to come home, and we were given prescription food from the vets which was costing £22 a week! This is a buget which we could not afford in the longterm, so after speaking to a doggy friend of mine, and googling pancreatitis I put him on dry chappie and "hey presto" straight away his poos are back to normal hard ones! He had been suffering from collitis for about 4 months with really bad diahorrea! He has not had any more set backs and is now doing great. He is maining his weight and is full of energy. I would strongly recommend this to anyone with a dog with stomach problems

“My dog had lots of problems with an upset stomach and...”

★★★★★

written by on 03/04/2011

My dog had lots of problems with an upset stomach and this went on for around 2 months, he was spraying what looked like brown water from his bottom everywhere, after many trips to the vets and lots of money wasted on chicken, eggs and expensive food that the vet sold me nothing was working, Instead of going back to the vets i sat and thought of what we used to feed our dogs when i was younger we had 6 dogs and none of them ever saw a vet in there lives and all lived to the healthy age of 18-19 years old with no problems at all, then it came to me all they ever had was chappie as it was the cheapest dog food around then. So i went to the supermarket and purchased a few tins gave my dog a tin that night the next morning everything was back to normal solid. So i would recommend this food if your dog has an upset stomach he enjoys it every day he has not gone off it like he did in the past with other brands and as for what the vets try to sell you i think it is a rip off. Chappie gets my vote.

I am so pleased I came across your comments. I have had 11 dogs in my time and now have a 4year old Airedale. I have always fed him Bakers Complete but having been told and read articles about it I am looking to change. He also when over the park is constantly squatting and having a brown water like liquid coming out of his bum. I was being told he was marking but have never experienced this with other dogs or other dog owners with the same problem. Looking back I fed my past dogs on Chappie so having read your article that's what I intend to do. Thank you for your review Watch this space

“CHAPPIE - great for dodgy doggy tums and bums! ”

★★★★★

written by on 03/04/2011

CHAPPIE - great for dodgy doggy tums and bums!
My springer spaniel puppy (now 6 months) seemed to be having a lot of runny poos - we would often wake to find what looked like an explosion on the floor! As it is my first dog, I was really panicky so was constantly at the vet who sold me Royal Canin 'sensitive' wet food (£2 per standard can) You can imagine the expense of me being a new mum!. Well this food was basically minced chicken and rice - nothing else. His poo would return to normal and we would introduce other dry food slowly back into his diet. Within a day or two, his poo would be runny again. Because of the cost, I decided I was going to make my own food, so would boil turkey mince, rice, grated carrot and courgette before blitzing it in a processor. The dog was brill on it - but it proved awkward keeping a decent stock for him. While out walking my pup, I met someone who had worked for a springer rescue centre and he said he always used Chappie to feed the rescue dogs. I was unsure about trying him on this as because it is quite cheap in cost - I assumed it would be low quality - how wrong I was as he is amazing on it. Proper dog poo that I can pick up off the floor. I am still worried that he may be missing out on the proper levels of nutrients that may be added to puppy food and that a wet diet may cause problems to his gums and teeth - but he enjoys a nice fresh carrot each day which hopefully will help this and I have started giving him a fresh bone from the butchers which the vet said will help to supplement his calcium. I was surprised to learn that raw chicken wings (incl. bones) are good for calcium and it is okay to feed them these as the bones are soft and dont splinter - they must be raw though - it is the cooking that apparently causes the splintering.

“My late German Shepherd had a sensitive tummy, and...”

★★★★★

written by on 23/03/2011

My late German Shepherd had a sensitive tummy, and when he was 6 years old developed a nasty condition called furunculosis which causes lesions inside the back passage which can spread into the bowel. We were advised by the vet to keep his diet bland and to avoid beef. Many of brands of food were simply too expensive for us to feed him long term so we decided to try the cheap and cheerful chappie, and amazingly he loved it and his condition resolved and never recurred. I now feed chappie dry complete to my springer spaniel and she too loves it, and for a treat a couple of times a week I mix in some chappie wet food, her coat is shiny and she has boundless energy. Don't be put off thinking it is cheap and therefore inferior, that is far from the case it is excellent, go try it!

Our five month old puppy has had constant sloppy poos and nothing seemed to help - we tried every possible brand. The vet recommended Chappie and immediately everything improved. As it's a low fat food you do need to feed more for puppies but the change is amazing.

I tried other makes for diabetic dogs and then tried them on chappie, they now eat all the food and the pancreas is less inflamed , Great food for diabetes as well, the dried low fat food keeps them stable Would reccomend this food

My 5 yr old Cocker was recently diagnosed with Pancreatitius after a lifelong diet of dried food from James Wellbeloved through to Science Plan.

When I moved in with my boyfriend who also had a dog, my Cocker became much more "gulpy" when eating his food as he was obviously worried that the other dog was going to try to get his dinner!

I don't think that eating dried food at such a pace helped with his pancreatitius, but the vet recommended he be put on Chappie which would also help with his weight which he was getting slightly chubby.

I have had no problems since then, and he has also been changed to 3 meals a day, rather than two so that his pancreaus can process everything at a better pace.

Can't fault Chappie at all!

Just wish they had more than two flavours!

★★★★★

written by on 20/06/2010

My cross-breed dog Angel was always fed Butcher's wet and Baker's dry food with occassional treats. She then went off her food and I mean not eating anything so after a few days we took her to the vet she had developed pancreatitis and was really unwell and in a lot of pain. The vet had her on Royal Canin (cost a fortune) for a fortnight and then recommended Chappie. We have not looked back - this is a fab food for any dog that suffers from this painful condition or even just for roly poly dogs fed too many treats. I just wonder why the company who manufacture it dont spend money advertising just how good it is - like everyone else I thought it was a cheap and not very full of nutrient dog food. If the company are looking for a star for their commercial our healthy wee Angel will oblige...for a fee... free Chappie for life.

written by aliost on 14/06/2010

Our Cocker spaniel had been on high priced so called quality foods, from James wellbeloved to Eukanuba. Being a spaniel he has a sensitive tummy. We heard about chappie but were reluctant to try as it was cheap and were unsure of the content. We decided to give it a go, bought chappie dry food and our dog has been happier. No upset tummy, he's extremely happy and we wouldn't change it. Chappie is ideal.

I am about to start my 5 month old lab on Chappie Wet and then move on to Chappie Kibble. At the moment he is on a diet of steamed chicken, eggs and steamed fish mixed individually with white steamed rice. This was on the vets advice because his faeces was very loose with blood and mucus in it. He has completed a course of antibiotics and canker but now his faeces are loose again but weren't to begin with. My question is, am I giving him too much rice or chicken? He is fed twice a day and I would be grateful if you could advise me accordingly. His weight is nearly 1kg and apart from the poo problem he is healthy. Many thanks.
