“Lidl the best supermarket EVER”

★★★★★

written by StockwellTiger on 19/11/2016

I used to be a supermarket snob until I went home to visit my family in Ireland and my mum was always raving about Lidl and telling me how great their laundry liquid and cat and dog food is so I decided to go with her when she went shopping and was surprised at the amount of fresh produce, cheeses, cold meats and especially wine they stocked. I live in London so when I returned from Ireland I went for a shop in Lidl Streatham and have been doing my shopping in Lidl since then 2012. I always found the staff in Streatham to be very friendly and helpful and was quite impressed with the service and any produce I purchased. I moved form Streatham to Stockwell in January this year and was so pleased to have a branch of Lidl less than 10 minutes walk form my new place. The Stockwell branch is fantastic and all the staff there are always busy but friendly and helpful as much as they can. I love all the cheeses especially the medium cheddar and the haloumi is totally yummy, the ham selection is fab and I adore their streaky bacon. The selection of fresh meat is good, I really like the chicken thighs and the roast pork shoulder. The jam and great especially the sour cherry and I go through a jar of honey a week from Lidl. The thing I like most about Lidl is their wine selection and the offers they have on a regular basis, in the Stockwell branch they have regular offers on wines which make me very happy. The Xmas products are fantastic, I have bought goose crown, stollen, xmas cake, macaroons, and other yummy products which I know are tasty and good quality because I have been buying them for a few years now. I have bought many of the Lidl special buys which are always good value and the Silvercrest brand never lets me down. I have on one occasion had to return a product that was faulty and found their staff helpful and refunds are no issue once you have your receipt. Thank you Lidl and keep up the good work.

“Our shop of choice”

★★★★★

written by jeeping on 27/11/2015

We started shopping at Lidl about 3 or 4 years ago, and it has saved us a small fortune. We regularly go to the Driffield, Pickering and Malton stores. But also the Thirsk, Whitby, Harrogate & Willerby stores. Without exception they are clean, generally well-stocked, easy to navigate, easy to park (we have a large van), the staff are friendly, efficient and very quick at the checkout. Sometimes we have to wait a little while, but it's a supermarket, other people go there as well (amazingly enough). We shop at Aldi as well but we prefer Lidl, each shop offers something a little different. Lidl do fresh bread, bonus! We mainly shop for fresh fruit & veg, a basic range is fine, sometimes they run out of stock, such is life. As the stores are small relatively, it is easier and faster to get the shopping done. We have bought quite a few non-food items, the quality is very good but also very well-priced. Generally if they don't sell it we don't buy it, end of.

Lidl are great, most of their products are better than branded products and they led the way in charging for bags lol. They are my prefered shopping location.

“Fantastic Aftercare”

I bought a microwave from Lidl 2.5 years ago with a 3 year guarantee. It broke down on Monday so I rang their customer service the same day. Good job I still had the receipt that's all the details they asked and they sent me an email with a post label for Germany attached.

On Tuesday morning UPS arrived and the item away. I was thinking that would be 2 weeks gone at best and then a load of hassle.

I went up to John Lewis and bought another microwave. On Friday the door bell rings and there is UPS with a brand new microwave. You would never get that service from any other retailer apart from say John Lewis.

So folks keep you Lidl receipts, they honour their guarantees!

Lidl and Aldi's 3 year warranties are great. I'd rather get a relatively unknown brand from them because they seldom fail and, if they do, you're covered like this.

I guess you just haven't dealt with John Lewis recently - REALLY gone down for after sales service on more than one occasion.

I've been shopping at Lidl for quite a few years now, I'm fortunate enough to be within driving distance of FOUR of them! Love Lidl, think they are great value and their range is ever expanding. Their laundry products are particularly good, and I also find their toiletries inexpensive. My cats don't like the Lidl own brand tinned cat food ( minted lamb being the one that my ginger tom tried to cover up with his paw like it was something he'd left in the litter tray!!), but they absolutely devour the cat food in pouches. It's a fraction of the cost of other similar own brands, so they can have it as a regular treat rather than just once in a while. Absolutely love the freshly baked goods that many branches are now doing. As good as, if not better than, the same things being sold at our local M&S but much cheaper. Particularly like the cheese twists, think they're currently 79p compared with the M&S ones at £1.05. Sorry M&S, but that's a big saving in my eyes, especially for a product that's just as good. Fruit and veg is usually cheaper than other local supermarkets and lasts well. Sometimes I do find that you end up in a long queue especially at busy times like a Saturday morning, because there aren't usually many checkouts at a Lidl. However, at quieter times it's great to be able to nip in and out quickly rather than having to navigate a large supermarket. Overall I love Lidl. If you consider yourself too upmarket to shop there then that's great. It leaves more for those of us who do shop there!

No idea why the reviews are bad I think most are made up. Store is very clean and tidy and the staff are polite. Food is very nice and never out of date.I will admit lidl haven't got a lot of choice but they do have the basics. I just wouldn't go for frozen because they only have limited amount.

“Best supermarket ever”

★★★★★

written by Amir266 on 09/09/2014

I always been a big Tesco shopper, because of the vouchers and club card points etc. Spent £150 every week. But after a while realised that even everyday things got more expensive . Seen a lidl advert on TV , decided to visit our local store, Dumfries ( Scotland ). Shock and horror. So clean and tidy. Very cheap. Lovely bakery with the smell of fresh bread. Produce always fresh and plenty to choose from, very good quality meet and dairy products. Love the Deluxe range. Recommend washing powder and other cleaning stuff. Baby products really good quality as well. My big shopping cart is always full. Checkout very quick , and staff is very friendly . Only spend about £90 a week for the four of us, and I cook from scratch . Family very happy, have more money now for days out and going to swimming pool. Thanks Lidl, keep up the good work even if you are very busy sometimes.

I guess you could call me a bit of a supermarket snob, I usually shop in Sainsbury or Waitrose. Last week my friend took me to Lidl .. WOW I was completely shocked.. yes it was basic but spotlessly clean, yes there were no fancy racks of lamb or chicken fillet but what they did have was competitively priced and very well presented. It was the price of the fruit and veg that blew me away and their deluxe Stilton was better than Waitrose and HALF THE PRICE... I am completely sold and will be going again,

I have been shopping at Lidl for over 12 years I started when my children started senior school. This was due to having to be on a budget. My opinion is that you get what you see. Nothing is hidden when you shop at Lidl. So if you have a list its easy to follow when going around the shop. Of course in the middle of the shop are the latest bargains to be had, these are usually excellent if you are looking to do some activity. For example sometimes its Ski wear or hiking wear etc.. I like the fact the shop is smaller then most and more basic so you can budget so much easier than putting everything on the visa card as Lidl is cash or debit card only. Before shopping at Lidl I always thought it was the end of the market but this is not true. Next time you see a Lidl check it out, its worth it.

“Can't go wrong!”

written by Salsays on 31/10/2012

I have been to a number of Lidl's because I live in Cardiff. The one I consider my local (Colchester avenue) is the one I am going to base my review on. Somebody initially recommended them to me and I started shopping with them around 3 or 4 years ago. I absolutely swear by them now. I also think if I lived somewhere remotely (as I used to) I would be more than happy to have a Lidl's there. The way they cycle their various products is just genius, Almost everything you can need I believe is there some month or other, the quality is just brilliant, and I'm fussy. I always feel like a child buying their non food products as you can always find some little added extra or knick knack,so well made too they are wonderful. Even found this when buying their clothes dryer recently! I knew there would be something and sure enough, there was! I could write a much longer review extolling their virtues but will try and keep it briefer. Their food and drinks, again excellent quality, cosmetic and bathrooom related stuff too. But also the staff are always really friendly and helpful. The prices are second to none, a huge plus in this present climate too! I hate shopping and I hate supermarkets mostly, I'm not a typical female. However I never hate shopping at Lidl's, quite the opositte. THAT in itself is nothing short of a mini miracle for me! Top marks all round to them

“Best Lidl Store in the UK”

★★★★★

written by on 06/05/2012

After reading some of the reviews on here about some Lidl stores, I wanted to put some POSITIVE feedback in for the Lidl Store in Alphington Exeter. Staff here are always friendly and helpful, stock is well presented and mostly in stock, and the store is well lit and easy to get around. The offers are excellent, and very good value. Pricing fair and sensible and certainly a BIG HELP in these cash strapped times. Top store, easy parking, top staff, and we find it the friendliest store in the Exeter area. Keith & Teresa Simpson.

at lidl, there are many things you will find from tesco or whatever, for less, and under different brands, instead of walls or porkinson sausages you find the posh milton gate and the simple glenview farm names, this is repeated all around the store, with also larger names you will know. the prices are very reasonable, it is great value and the queue which is long at first, gets cleared in no time, the staff are very efficient and quick and overall it is fantastic.

I am 100% satisfied with the service at my local Lidl in Hawick. I always shop at Lidl first and get the remaining items they don't stock elsewhere. I think the quality of produce is generally excellent, for example my partner told me he much preferred Lidl's yoghurt to the M&S ones I bought last week. I also love the special offers....quirky they may be but I have found some real bargains over the years!
My kids were over the moon to find a Lidl in Crete that was set out like the Hawick store and had the same choc ice lollies (Magnum equivalent) as at home! Keeping them frozen in Crete was more of an issue than Scotland mind you!!!
Best of all, the staff are cheerful and friendly! The girl who served me tonight chatted away whilst putting my shopping through the checkout and wished me a very Happy Christmas. This was contrasted with the girl in Morrisons who grunted her acknowledgement of me then proceeded to either eye up some young blokes who happened to be passing or converse about the woes in her love life with her neighbouring colleague.
Lidl is tops every time!

written by Ludwigr on 07/12/2009

I am fortunate in having easy access to several supermarkets, Lidl being an exception, their nearest store is about 10 miles from where I live, but I like many of their lines, the prices are good and when I am passing I will pop in and do a shop, I had attended a meeting and was wearing a really good mohair suit when I decided to pop in to their Colwyn Bay store to buy some salami and look at their special offers, unfortunately I snagged my jacket on some racking.

I expected to be fobbed of, but no, within a couple of days I received a call from the area manager, this was followed up as promised with the outcome being that I have been recompensed for the cost of an invisible repair, not inexpensive, but my preferred option.I am really impressed, Lidl, on the surface offer a very basic shopping experience, but I could not have received a more courteous and efficient response.

written by eb on 09/02/2006

Had to write a review on this after seeing some hilarious ones written, I think at the end of the day you get what you pay for, but with Lidl you still get quality, the one near me in Chichester is very good, as for the person who says there is no cafe toilets etc... they should try F&M or Harrods, I go to Lidl, Sainsburys then onto Tesco if I can't find what I wanted and occasional go to Waitrose if in Egham, as for the snobbery about Lidl, it is still very high but I park my Mercedes, BMW, or Volvo there when I go and I don't give a monkeys what people think, I once read a review saying that Lidl is becoming more socially acceptable did make me chuckle, I have never brought anything much from the specials but our store did get apprehended for taking tips and letting people in before store opening hours when they get flat panel televisions and other products alike, so maybe that's why they are quite pleasant in my local, probably on a better wage then me.

Nice one.
Your review pretty much says it all-I have to laugh myself when people manage to find something to complain about.
You pays your money-and you don't get ripped off as much as you do in Somerfield etc.

Lidl is brilliant. High quality products sold at a very good price. They may not be the cheapest shop you've ever been in, but the quality of the products and size of packages makes up for that.
The shops are clean and well maintained-the carparks are the same.
The staff are friendly without being a pest, and the till operators are careful with the stuff you've bought. You have to buy your own carriers/bring your own bags-but the carriers are only 3p each.
Just be careful you can carry all you have bought!

High quality? Seriously I have been in Lidl, although the prices are fairly low they don't have a lot of choice. And their products lack quality, not to mention the poor customer service. One of the branch's i have been in had everything in the boxes they had been sent to the store in!! It felt like a warehouse rather than a supermarket, Furthermore, the 'apparently' cheap products (radios, computers) are terrible as is their refund policy. Any attempt to contact the suppliers failed.
