“never again”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 19/09/2013

if you have no car or a certain level of fitness do not go...i was about a mile from the complex and the nearest bar opened two nights only at 7pm..the caravan had a leak in the bathroom and we had to mop up in the morning..glasses delivered 9pm friday night...dirty laundry left outside with gulls pecking at the bags...by far the worst haven camp i have been to and i will never go again...i stuck it till sunday then we just left as all we did was sit in the caravan instead of walking a mile to the bar and a mile back....awful place ...this place should definitely let people know some caravans involve a massive walk to the complex

written by on 04/07/2013

Just got back from Caister haven site , I hated ever minute of it, there was a group of us that went and on arrival all look great. the caravan its self wasn't to bad apart from no toilet brush. The club house beer was un drink able disgusting its wasn't just me the whole group of 18 had to go on bottled beer we spent more time in the pub just outside camp site. there was meant to be 2 club houses open over the weekend but one was hired out to a wedding party so he had to sit in a club house that all they did was entertain the kids , most of the night .And take plenty of money for your bottled beer it will cost a arm and a leg , we had a meal in the barrel an mash restaurant I had steak and surf and your think at 15 pounds your have a great meal when it arrived I was given a normal knife , I ask for a steak knife and after waiting 5 minutes to arrive , will I should of ask for a angle grinder to cut it I chewed on one bit for what seemed ages so I just gave up on it , we had to have another key for the caravan which was a 10 pound deposit .So on the day to leave I was in a great mood didn't have to stay there any more so we got up early to leave car packed of I go to get me 10 pound deposit only to find the reception didn't open till 9 o'clock just my luck cant even get me 10 tenner back to have a dissent pint on ,

“Took the standard Plus 3 Bedroom at the Haven in...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by hazel brookes on 08/10/2010

Took the standard Plus 3 Bedroom at the Haven in Caister 4 days beginning of October, caravan was grubby, 1st night hubby got stung by somethin the colour of a beetle but with a stinger. I got bit to death with flea bites, my 10 year old slept on the sofa the baby shared with dad. October 4 days but EVERYTHIN closed activities couldn't do 8 out of 10 of them, a member of staff stated no use bringing staff in for 1 or 2 things just for 2 or 3 kids. You could peddle around in a golf buggy £10 deposit and £10 for half an hour, best bit was beach no shells tho just a beach of stones. Best bit took 2 dogs they behaved and loved the beach. We spent a fortune de-fleaing them b4 we came, wish others would do the same. Cabin was dirty has a resadue of cleaning fluid on everything. Too narrow the quilts are already there but for sanity's sake take your own if u can. The spring in every bed has gone so was watching my watch go round praying for daylight. IT Was torture brought me to tears in the end and hubby lost temper he has never done that in 13 years of marriage We came home 24 hrs early. To save the baby our eldest daughter was mortified.... Shop expensive bread milk It has to be the only Spar shop i've seen in a while, entertainment at 6pm for kids 30 min show then photo op at the wall next to staff room USE THE DAM STAGE.... photo's a rip off shop fab for nik naks postcards etc
Heaters in all 3 bed dnt work baby was freezing. Archery was on but you did this accross the pool, and the 1 where you go in a ball and walk on water, hubby came back white and felt sick. ARCADE!!!! heed warning!!!! £10 to £15 spent in less than 15 mins and you may win under 5 tickets, security guard told all after i had him under duress. You don't really win anythin thats what's gamblin about never seen any1 win anythin. Speaking to someone about in the summer time tried defendin our October holidays, summer worse get bitten by everythin suggest put our dogs in kennels so we could go have a nicer model caravan. (we dnt believe in doing this, didnt sit well.) as they carried on... it's packed kids lined up in the sun for a long time to go on bean bag slide. Beach packed and been pre warned dnt get a caravan near the shops and pubs. Rowdy loud and people seem to urinate anywhere, All the children swear and are simply rowdy too and the parents are nicknamed the Pitcher's, you can buy large pitches of beer.
The caravan is equipt with everything a normal kitchen would need plates, bowls cutlery pans oven dishes measuring jugs knives you need matches to light the hob but wash everything first for goodness sake
we were so disapointed our 10 yr old was in tears it was our first holiday in 12 years, but we were all so miserable. Leaflet lookes amazing... We are all devestated it took us 5 hours to drive there. Longer back. We learnt our lesson..... Good Luck Hi DI Hi NO NO NO!! WE are more upset for our 2 girls than anything.

Best Regards

“Will not return ”

Will not return

We got a 'cheap' break by collecting tokens through The Sun newspaper - bought the paper especially. On top of the £60 to book, we were charged £30 for power!!!!, £30 for leisure passes and an additional £12 for linen hire (we could have taken our own I suppose).

Once there, the superior caravan felt damp - I suppose it was October/November. The bathroom was very small and could have done with a decent clean but the rest of the van was relatively clean.

The site itself seemed very run-down. The pool area was dirty and cramped - not sure how they manage when all 1000+ accommodation units are occupied. You have to pay (you don't get back) money for the lockers. And then, one of the slides was not in use.

Service everywhere was slow. It took over 20 minutes to get two portions of chips from the chippy - despite there being three members of staff on and only two small orders in front of me in the queue.

The site shop was sparsely stocked. Fortunately there is a Tesco not far away which also has an ATM that doesn't charge (the site's one does).

Even the site flags seemed to be laughing at us as, with them being so old and tatty, each of the flags only had the 'Ha' part of 'Haven' on display. Looking back it was funny to see all these flags displaying "Ha Ha Ha".

I have been using Haven for a few years with my young children but have never been to caister so for a change we booked there!!!!!!!! DONT..... Very run down... Worse was that when we got our keys for our caravan they showed us on the map where we would be!!!!!!!!!!! Word for word... Go back the way you come in go down the main road past the housing estate past the shops and right at the bottom... Well RIGHT at the BOTTOM was the main road not 20 ft away from our caravan!!! with a housing estate either side!!! Shocked and never got out of the car the staff were rude and we walked away from our holiday and will NEVER go back to Caister.

“The beach is excellent and the site is well laid out. ...”

★★☆☆☆

written by racheyliz on 09/01/2009

The beach is excellent and the site is well laid out. We went in October half term. Our Haven Holidays caravan was excellent (but we did pick the high standard one). However the cramped changing room for the pool was dirty and not heated. It was freezing in there! It also had limited opening hours and shut at lunch time. The entertainment in the evening was very crowded, almost impossible to get a seat and not of a high standard. If you are the sort of person who loves noisy, crowded pubs maybe it's for you. Bike hire was ok but twice we had to go back and swap dodgy bikes. The indoor soft play area was small, up some stairs and dingy. No cafe just vending machines. The mash and Barrel pub was clean and although a little over priced was ok. I thought Haven holidays would be like budget Centreparks judging by their TV advert but it's not. Use it as a base to explore and don't expect too much.

Used to love coming here but now my kids get bored. The place looks rundown and looks rough at the beach end while the Haven office end looks cleaner and more cared for. Don't think we will bother next year will try a new site.

written by travis1265 on 26/08/2008

Beware, I do not recommend visiting Caister unless you really like a good horror story. On arrival into the site you may be forgiven for thinking that you have stumbled onto the set of "On the Buses" or "Carry on Camping". It's a real throw back from the 70's. Some of the staff were extremeley unhelpful and rude. We were kept waiting at reception for hours whilst our caravan was being "sorted". Eventually turned up to find a handyman trying to put fridge door back on (to no avail). Complained, only to have another handyman turn up with replacement fridge who told us to put it in the lounge as he wouldn't be able to take the broken one away! Complained again, offered replacement substandard caravan and told to make do! Went to reception and eventually offered refund in the morning but only after wife and i kicked up such a fuss that they just wanted rid of us!

written by gaz76 on 27/06/2008

On the whole the park was good. Security was good. Chalet smelt mouldy, cobwebs, dirty floors, dirty windows, dog poo outside chalet. Not a very nice place to stay. We will never stay in a chalet on the haven site again. On the internet it looked much better. Staff weren't very helpful when we complained. Really puts you off returning.

Drove for 9 hours from Scotland to get here expecting "luxury silver chalet" was anything but luxury! Complained straight away but told was fully booked wait till Monday and would be moved. When Monday came offered only one alternative on other side of park in caravan. Son took ill in restaurant was sick everywhere and no staff willing to help me even though struggling to take sick son out and 3 other kids. I left the next day cutting short my holiday but when complained was offered no refund but a weekend off season. Never going back there again.

“I have been to Caister a few times over the past 8...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by jamiewells on 15/09/2007

I have been to Caister a few times over the past 8 years, but after my recent holiday experience, however, I will never return to that dirty, run down, dated place again. Don't get me wrong I have had such a fantastic time when I have stayed at this park before, but I can not believe that with the money this place must make every year, they have not invested it wisely in my opinion.
The paint work seems as if it has not been done in years. Dirty toilets, poo found in the pool and strikes.
The entertainment is zero in the day - forget it unless you want to spend all your money in the arcades, they charge for everything even a slide that should be free!
There is a play area indoors that is free BUT it is so dirty and dated that you could not possibly spend your day there!
Outside play area is good but if it is raining then what do you do? Strikes, this is a pub which has an arcade and a garden. Also has a play area outside but you have to pay for your children to jump on a bouncy castle that looks like it has never had a clean, it is so poor that we could not face sitting there too often! I watched a cleaner come out of the toilets but forgot to clean up the mess that was left in one of the cubicles! The pool is OK but for the size of the park I can't believe that is all they have, only one of the slide in there was open and it shut every day for lunch.
I am not a moaner but really I could go on all day about how bad and dirty the park has got,we didn't pay a lot for our holiday, but the sad thing is other people do and it is a shame to say, but I think it has had it time and it will never improve unless they knock it down and start again!
I have looked at the other reviews and really can't believe that people are 100% happy with their holiday there, no matter how little your package was it costs nothing to keep it clean and clean it wasn't!
Even the staff in the shops, arcades, pubs and restaurant couldn't be botherd to smile or great you,
So if you fancy going there because you want a cheap break, I don't advise you go: save your money!
All I can say is that Neptunes Palace in the evening is the only thing to keep you going, we went every night and did enjoy it, they have good entertainment and it is a happy atmosphere, once again it is let down by the shabby lookinmg building surrounding it!

“We have been going to Caister Camp for 6 years and...”

★★☆☆☆

written by latte on 06/08/2007

We have been going to Caister Camp for 6 years and have sadly watched its decline. The camp itself is very shabby, we had 2 caravans for our party of 11 with age range of 12 to 48, 1 van was bronze 3 bed and it was gross, the bathroom/shower walls had rotted through into the back of a wardrobe, the flooring around toilet was the same and had been filled with expanding foam, the upholstery was in dire condition with holes/burns/stains and the carpets don't bare description, I defy even the hardiest holidaymaker to lay on sodden mattresses - yes we did complain and were told because we had a dog with us we could not be allocated another unit, this at a cost of £786 inclusive of a £40 fee for the dog, the 2nd van was a silver 3 bed which was a better standard but nothing to warrant £850+. What has happened to the entertainment, apart from Neptunes Club which is totally unbearable and to small to accommodate so many, the Chaos Club, pool room, cafe has been boarded up, so has the Carousel Club, seagulls club is now in use but is a good 15 min walk if you stay at neptune end of camp, if you can take many hours of Rory and Funstars it is fine for anyone over 14 it is a total bore as adult entertainment does not start till 10.45 apart from that and kiddies daytime things there is absolutely nothing to do, as my party included 1 12 yr old 1 14 yr old and 2 17yr olds they were too young for the bars and too old for everything else, this lack of activity showed itself many times at evening when bored groups gathered around the football/basketball and caused large amounts of damage, the police attending on 3 nights of the 7 we were there - the shop was OK but a bit expensive - we had Diners Choice in the restaurant which was acceptable and had a good variety, except if you wanted toast, had to queue for approx 20 mins for it - Funstars? Never saw one around the camp.

My advice if you don't have kiddies is avoid it like the plague, the camp is in dire need of refurbishment.

“I can not believe how TERRIBLE the Caister Haven...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by REIDN on 24/09/2005

I can not believe how TERRIBLE the Caister Haven Holiday park is. I can not believe that there are people coming away from the resort happy.
My family and I left the "holiday" early due to a list of problems which started from day one. To go into all the details would take longer than I now have, but the complaint letter was a full 3 sides of A4.
In short: Filthy accommodation - spent two hours cleaning, disgusting bathroom - mould and mildew EVERYWHERE. Cold shower (no bath) - not fixed until the last day of the holiday. Paid for 6 people - accommodation only suitable for 4, only 4 chairs at the table on a self catering holiday! Children's clubs for up to age 11 - children left to colour pictures and listen to nursery rhymes. "Park Rangers" activity - making a flower! Locked in chalet due to failing lock - not able to get out until after 9 in the evening. Included entertainment is the dirty pool and park - EVERYTHING else has to be paid for. In 6 days we spent over £400 extra on trying to keep the kids entertained.
All in all we were devastated coming away from the park. We left on the last day once the bathroom was finally cleaned with industrial bleach, which hurt our eyes when entering the chalet. After complaining to the company daily, and sending a letter of complaint, I have just received a letter offering £150 off another holiday!! I AM INSULTED!

“We stayed at Haven Holidays Caister in Silver Chalet...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by mwclm2004 on 25/10/2004

We stayed at Haven Holidays Caister in Silver Chalet accommodation.
It was damp, smelly, old, and dirty and unsecured.
Lights did not work, either bulbs missing or so old they flicked on and off, so you were forced to unscrew the aged, decrepid, dusty, filthy light fitting to remove the fluorescent bulbs.
The Shower cubical was stale, dark, filthy and disgusting! The shower worked for 10 minutes, then squealed, and packed up!
We asked if they had mistakenly put us into a chalet in need of a refurbishment, but was informed that the "Silver" accommodation was the best they had! Can you believe that they have lower range! I just can't imagine what the "standard" and "bronze" were about? Am I living in a different world? Do people in England still live in dirt and squaller, and this is "the norm".

The site itself was a holiday camp.
So, all in all, you get what you might expect.

The swimming pool however was a joke.
This is something from the late 70's that has not been upgraded since. It is cold, dark, small, concrete floors and pool sides, and just unbelievable for such a massive holiday park!

Food was good, entertainment was good.

If you like the finer things in life, like a shower, and a clean room to sleep in, then I VERY STRONGLY suggest that you DO NOT allow your wife to talk you into it!

I returned home today to my nice clean house, with my nice clean bedroom and my nice clean bathroom.. Heaven!

written by stuarrt on 17/10/2004

I know a lot of you will be thinking, what a moaner, but myself and family have been to Haven Holidays Caister 4 times now, this is the first moan we have had, there wasn't anything, even at Buffallo Joes, I asked for hamburger, there were NONE, Pizza NONE, Hotdog. NONE. I went bowling, there was 4 lanes and only TWO BALLS oh do me a favour, when we asked about food they said because its end of season we have to be rid of foods, never heard of that one before, oh there is more, lots more but I'm not going to go on and on, its not my nature, I will do my complaining in right places, where I will be heard...
