“Holiday cancelled at a weeks notice!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 17/10/2015

Be very careful when booking as they cancelled my holiday at a weeks notice. Only offering me another park over 5 hours drive away, a refund or another holiday but not in the summer holidays!! Doesn’t help me when my children of 5, 6 and 9 are in tears as they are no longer going on holiday next week!! And its too late to book anywhere else. Bad management, wont be booking another Haven Holiday !!!

Just to add our holiday was booked through disabled directory holidays who were horrified when I rang and let them know our experience and they were appalled when I explained what had happened and are going to support us in a full and comprehensive complaint. Disabled directory are a very supportive agency and were grateful I had informed them of our experience

“I now call it Hated, not Haven!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by holidaymummy on 03/09/2012

Used to enjoy Haven as a kid so decided to go back for a weekend a few years ago (review better late than never!) Hated it because i had booked a chalet/house but when we got there they fobbed us off with a bungalow. They were fully booked that weekend so couldnt move to other accomodation. Hated the bungalow as it was firstly down a ditch so it was difficult for the buggy and baby and also as the bungalow was at edge of the park, it was by hedgerow so got fox poo by patio doors and the birds would wake us up at 4am. TV very dated so no reception and had to buy a dvd to entertain the kids. The car park by the bungalows want big enough to accomodate all the cars and there would be parking space wars between the guests! Found people there very unfriendly. The pub was nice though and food ok. We were not informed at time of booking that the new pool and slide had not been completed so children were very disappointed. Had to use temporary cold changing rooms for existing pool.

“The worst Haven site”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Suekay on 15/08/2012

I am writing this review whilst still on the site which shows how awful it is. On arriving at our caravan I noticed a musty smell but thought it would go on opening the windows. The door had bird muck all over it and the surfaces inside the caravan were dirty. I unpacked, cleaned all the surfaces (i had flash wipes)then realised we had no water. Rang reception and they sent a guy round to turn on the water. When he had gone I had a shower and noticed the bedroom carpet was soaking wet, when I checked the other carpets they too were soaking. Reception offered towels to put down and an offer to dry them the next day. But by this time I'd found mould on two of the bedrooms curtains and on the main bedroom wall so asked to be moved to another caravan. We were downgraded to a smaller caravan( all they had) but it was better than being in a smelly mouldy caravan. The next day we saw someone else moving into that awful caravan but the day after that they had moved out too. I really don't know what Haven are playing at by expecting people to pay a lot of money to stay in these awful caravans. Prestatyn and Pwllheli had lovely clean caravans. Also the entertainment in the evenings is dire, truly awful. No decent groups or singers just 'family entertainment' ie tacky games to win a bottle of pomagne with lots of screaming people. You can't get a decent meal after 9pm as they stop serving. I could go on and on really. Hastings was nice and I wish I'd stated there in a nice clean little hotel , actually I will next time. Be warned, don't stay here and read reviews before you book, I wish I had.

“Combe Haven - Such a disappointment.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 29/10/2011

The caravan was dated and filthy. We have two young children, so I brought some basic cleaning things with us, but it was beyond that. There was dust everywhere, slime and mold in the shower, sticky dirty floors, stained carpets and sofa. The outside light wasn't working (so came back from dinner in the dark), light over dining table not working, shower not working properly, broken handle on fridge door. Our bedding was used, smelt like fried food. Got the spare duvet out from the wardrobe floor - it had blood on it. Called security (as the reception closes at 6pm), they delivered two single duvets, but only one had a cover on. They didn't have anything else. After a terrible nights sleep I spoke to reception. They were very kind and offered to clean it again and take care of the maintenance issues. I discussed leaving, but thought it only fair to give them a chance to put it right. They had no other caravans to offer us at that time. She asked us to give her the day to sort it out. Went to the kids club, which was poor. The staff were friendly enough (although seemed understaffed), but the set up was disorganised and again the room was dirty. We ate at the Mash and Barrel the night we arrived. It's open plan so very loud. There were three members of staff behind the bar taking food and drink orders for the whole restaurant. Waited 20 minutes to place order, then 35 minutes for food to arrive. It was over priced for what we got. we didn't go swimming as we didn't get time so can't comment on the facility. I looked through the windows..it looked busy. The outdoor pool was only open a couple hours a day becuase the it's off peak. The seagulls seemed to enjoy it though! At one point there was 8 of them swimming around in it, eating a leftover sandwich. After kids club we went back to the caravan to see that they had changed the shower thermostat and both lights. However the place was still dirty and the fridge handle hadn't been done. The bedding had been changed though. I called reception to check that they were coming back to clean, but was told they had already been! At that point they offered us another caravan, but it wouldn't be ready until 3. We packed up all our things and decided to go to the outside play area to let the kids burn off energy. Not surprisingly, it was a nightmare. I'll post pictures as it's unbelivable. Three pieces of dangerously broken equiptment - not fenced off. Screws poking out of bits of wood. Not safe and the last straw. We left and checked out less than 24 hours after arriving. To thier credit, we requested a refund and they agreed without quibble. Hopefully that will happen!

written by on 04/05/2011

As an owner of a 2009 mobile at combe haven we have worse problems than even the worse review here, the van was left dirty and uncleaned every time we returned to it, broken fittings not mended even after six months of kicking management. Constant complaining to them does not get you anywhere. We are refusing to pay site fees as they are not fullfilling their duties. We have been told that thirty percent of owners have left and everyone we have spoken to in normandy court and saxony court wants to leave too. However many are caught up in the sites financial package and would leave with negative equity. You cannot move the van on site. They will only buy it back at the lowest glasses trade price after a lot of pushing. In total we paid about 40,000 pounds and have been offered 11,000 pounds. If you try to sell privately, they rip down the signs. We hate it there so much we have walked out and given back the keys. You are totally trapped after you have bought it as they only want to sublet your van, even though they admittted one family in ten will wreck it. We confirm that as it happened to us several times in one season.

written by jadecrwfrd21 on 08/04/2011

I visited combe havenwhen i was 11 and it was my first family holiday too.
I had the time of my life and really enkpyed our week there with my parents and three siblings.
Ever since 2011 my mum and dad have revisited every year and i returned there when i was 14 for a 4 night stay and again was fantastic and had a great time.
Then in 2008 bearing in mind my family visit each year i booked a weeks holiday with my ex-partner and his mum.
A week and a half before outr holiday i split from my ex and had a reall tough time and to make it worse my gran died the same day so i was distraught.
The following day after the two dramas i decided it wasnt wise i still go on this holiday as id be going alone and it was too short notice to arrange for someone else to take this holiday instead.
I phoned haven holidays and explained my situation and i must say i was shocked on there attitude towards myself and they claimed that i couldnt cancel and i wasnt entitled to get any money back. We had payed just under £600.00 and this was payed in full i didnt even leave a deposit i booked straight away.
They also claimed tht i never payed a cancellation fee however when ringing aand booking this holiday they never offered a cancellation fee to be put in place. They said that no one can do anything they werent even sorry on my loss and i am disgusted with the way haven treat these issuse which am sure alot of other holiday makers have been in the same position as me.

I will never ever use this holiday patk again and im gutted they never even offered a refund.

“When we first got to haven after travelling 6 hours we...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 30/03/2011

When we first got to haven after travelling 6 hours we checked in fast and we were impressed, we found it hard to find the caravan in the first place and when we went in it was disgusting, the fridge was in the middle of the floor, no bed linen, no utensils in the kitchen and the place smelt horrible. We went back to change caravan as well as 3 other families which they did quickly.
Our second caravan was clean so we were satisfied until one of the lights from the bathroom fell to the floor but we give them the benefit of the doubt and did not complain. When outside started to go dark we felt the cold bearing in mind we put the fire on as soon as we walked in because it was chilly, but it started to get colder and colder for the whole weekend we kept the fire on but it was no use, we had to sleep next the fire at night which was uncomfortable, but not much better than the actual beds.
The entertainment was good, ABBA tribute band were on but they were stuffed into a corner to play as there was a dancing competition on all weekend in the main area. The only other thing to do was karaoke which the staff members were good. The inside pool was too hot and the outdoor pool was not open as it was March.
They defiantly need to improve the caravans because on all the other haven holidays we have been to there was always been radiators in the bedrooms, the staff were brilliant and the cleanliness of the park was good although we couldn't find the bin
Overall what a waste of money and a waste of a weekend.

“Very, very tacky accommodation. Did not have much...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 09/09/2010

Very, very tacky accommodation. Did not have much interaction with staff apart from when i requested a change of caravan on arrival. By the way, this was quickly resolved without much fuss, just that the alternative one was equally run down. I sense staff are doing their best but no excuse for the dirty pools and caravan. Space Bowl which is the main attraction only operates very limited hours, 12 mid-day for two hours. Don't bother with it if your children are under 8yrs (was told 10 years by lifeguard on site) and must be able to swim as you end up in i beleive 5ft to 6ft deep bowl beneath the slide. Lack of proper road signs and directions to the resort from town, very poor directions within the resort too e.g. the funworks entertainment centre isn't the esiest to find using existing directions on site. Not reconmended for people with mobility issues as resort is located on a hill. Overall, am NOT gutted as it cost me £159 (superior caravan for 2 adults and 2 children) for 3 nights 3rd - 5th September 2010 (did i hear you say i got what i paid for??) and afforded me the opportunity to shop at the Ashford designer outlet which was under 30 miles away. Accommodation at Burnam-on-Sea and Allhallows which i've also been were miles better. Easily the worst holiday resort i've ever visited...returned home after the second night as i just couldn't take it anymore.

“spent £600 to end up being provided a caravan not even...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 28/08/2010

spent £600 to end up being provided a caravan not even fit for a tramp!! It stunk of stale fags, the beds were badley stained (all of them), the sofas were minging and stil crushed where the previous family sat. Cleaners did not even bother puffing them up. The carpet was stickey to walk on. After complaining (politely) we were given an alternative caravan and yes, it was much much beter, as it was a 2010 model. Clean, new & no smell. Such a shame because everything else on site (inc ammeneties) was a complete rip off. Arcades took around £12 of our money alone without actually playing anything, the shop was at extausionate prices so we had to keep travelling to our local Tesco store. Bikes were not available for hire because previous families had apparently tarnished them (dirty little skanks), go-karts were always unavailable, a part of the map wasnt even built, but they thought they would build our hopes up buy printing it anyway as an impressional thing. Could never go out about 6 o-clock because families were already hording tables ready for the shows, so standing was our only option, unless you put your jacket on a chair at about 4pm your were screwed for a seat. Kids bombing around everywhere on their own, but where were the parents??? getting wasted!! Ended up travelling to Hastings most days because it just wasnt even worth the walk around.

written by sootykins on 14/08/2010

we used to work at combe haven, not no more, some caravans are really lovley while others are only fit for the local tip, i dont no how haven can even put guests in some of them, the new water slide is hardly ever operating, due to lack of staff, or so they say...you wont believe it but as cleaners we only used to get £3.75 to clean any grade caravan, that can be your small 2 bed to a large 3 bed with 2 bathrooms, and you only have 30mins to clean it, butlins is a much better place to go, at least the pillows and quilts are clean there..

“We arrived late at night due to traffic and and...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 09/08/2010

We arrived late at night due to traffic and and becoming lost as their were no clear signs towards haven. Finding the caravan was never-ending due to a lot of the caravans not labelled or told where we were. The first site we saw was an ambulance and police cars on the site so we already didn't have high hopes for this place. When we found our caravan eventually it was positioned right at the back of the site which had a broken fence, foliage and heaps of trash thrown into the trees. The area around actually looked like a trash site and haven obviously didn't care about the positioning of the caravans. Inside the caravan was the most appalling site we had ever seen. The carpets we filthy and stained. The fridge had human hairs and old crumbs. The freezer compartment looked liked it had never been cleaned out or defrosted. One of the cupboards had crumbs and an outdated packet of crisps yet to have been removed. The kitchen floor had dirt and obviously not cleaned for a while. The wall paper in kitchen had pealed away to reveal more dirt and dust and had no end of amount of moths in the kitchen. The settee was dirty, stained and smelt of damp behind the cushions was human hair and dust and was stained behind it. Windows were stained and window sills dusty with mould in the corner. The Curtains were smelly and outdated. The bathroom itself smelt of urine. The toilet had not been cleaned especially the back of the toilet seat. The kids bedroom was tiny and damp also with a dirty carpet. So dirty that we had to move the mattresses out into the living room. By doing that we noticed one of the mattresses had a large stain in it. Thank-god we brought our own linen and duvets and pillows as the pillows were stained and torn. Although we had brought a dog we do not expect to stay and such a filthy accommodation. The next day we had to get out of the awful caravan and went to the swimming pool on the site. At first we though it was o-k but soon noticed the mud and sand on the floor and the pool was way to over packed. The leaflet and the site online expressed how close the beach was but obviously not. Unless you don't mind walking through busy traffic lights that had a few crashes on the roads while we were there and going down the filthy alleyways then it might be sorta close. But haven do not let you know this or that you have to come down a steep road. The restaurant on site itself was ok but service was slow the shop had alot of choice so was no problem there. The amusements were good if you had young kids. The entertainment was bad and boring halfway through you start to realize even the fun workers were even bored. We thought we go to the sports drome the next day for activities but every time we went no workers were there. Overall we had a terrible time and were very disappointed, haven is very misleading on the site and do not explain the full extent of the parks. We would recommend that no one comes here as it is awful experience and a total waste of your money as haven only seem to be in this for money as everything is ridiculously over priced here and they dont seem to care about the welfare of their customers And we will be requesting a full refund.

Written on: 10/03/2011

I have to say that I completely agree with the comments made in this review. We visited in July of last year after choosing the park to combine other elements of our holiday in London and in Nottingham before returning home to the North east. After a long drive we were kept waiting for over an hour to check in, and then were shown to an appauling accomodation. We chose as an alternative a chalet!! Never again, in any park!!!! The smell on opening the door was one of urine, the mould and dirt in the kitchens and bathroom was disgraceful. The fridge and freezer cooker etc were filthy, curtains torn and ripped, stained bedding etc. We did complain as we have 2 small children, and were kept waiting for 3 hours for a member of management to look at the chalet. Even then they were reluctant to do anything. It was only until I mentioned that we had taken some photographs that they decided to do something (it was so bad we mentioned environmental health). I wipred a sofa over with a clean baby wipe which came away Black!!!! We checked in at 2pm, and it was 10.30pm before we got into our new caravan. They did eventually give us a platinum caravan, but we lost one bedroom. The rest of the park, the shop was expensive, the pool was dirty, the staff overall were unhelpful, although I have to say the only ones not to be were the funstars, who mad the holiday for our children. We had no option to go home as we were going elsewhere, but the park were happy to move us to a kind of nearby park with an extra cost to us of £200!!! never again!!!!!!! Please do not go there

written by on 06/08/2010

We were supposed to have a 5 day break at Combe Haven last week but ended up coming home after just 3 hours.
We were given 3 different Superior Caravans which were all filthy dirty...pubic hairs, dead flies everywhere, cigarette burns on sofa, unclean bathroom, soiled & stained mattresses and pillows, I could go on forever!
As my daughter has breathing problems she needs to sleep in the same room as us..there was no sofa bed despite it being listed as an accommodation feature. They even had the cheek to give us a caravan that someone else had complained about and moved from!!
I can't believe there are actually good reviews about this place when there were at least 30 other people complaining about the state of their caravans at the same time I was!

We have just got home from a weekend away in a Comfort chalet.

The room smelt REALLY bad, had ants everywhere, pubes in the bath, cockroache in the living room, ciggarette paper in the fire etc.

room was filthy when we arrived.

WOULD NEVER GO BACK.

When we complained they ignored us, made several promises and broke every one.

WHEN I MENTIONED ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH THEY VERY QUICKLY REFUNDED AND OFFERED NEXT STAY FREE!!

We have just got back from a Mon - Fri break & would definatley not recommend to friends! We booked a Comfort Plus apartment as we have 2 small children & needed a bath.On arrival it took ten minutes to locate key, then told wrong accomodation number. Our accomodation could not be described as comfort at all, we was greeted by a mouldy/musty smell on entering apartment, there was a mouldy roller blind in the bathroom, all velour blinds in bedroom where either ripped/damaged and didn't fit windows. You could feel the springs through the doube matress, was changed but didn't feel anything diffrent to our previous matress - told no more on site, and thay would give us a duvet to put over the top! Smashed eggs against the bedroom windows. The leather settee in the living room was very uncomfortable, no padding on the side just the wood frame, one leather chair had no legs, fire did not work.We did report all to the reception team and a member did come and see us, but nothing really came of it! except the blind being changed in the bathroom. Will not be staying again!

written by blacksmith on 05/04/2010

I paid £26,000 for a caravan at this site, when i bought the van i was assured that haven would buy it back with no fuss (no fuss b-ll---s)After 18 months they got a dealer to offer us £8,000.
We decided to let our van with Haven acting as our letting agents at great cost, our van was to be let on the agreement that no animals would be allowed so you can imagine how we felt when we came to stay and found the van infested with fleas, there were so many it took three days to clear, the cleaners first attempt to clear the fleas consisted of 1/2 a can of fly spray needless to say this didn't do a damn thing. We came down to our van on a couple of occasions to clean the carpets and found it had been left unlocked more than once so no need for anyone to break in, we also found the T.V left on and lights. one day we arrived for a break with our 9 year old daughter only to find the cleaners had struck again or rather hadn't, she came in to let us know that something was on the floor at the side of her bed, that something was a used sanitary towel. This was the beginning of the end.We were assured that the drainage outside our van would be sorted out but on more than one occasion we had to rely on neighbours either giving us a push or even the site tractor.I was going to start on about the management and the help and understanding they gave us but i really cant be bothered and i am not certain they would print the words used to describe them. Think very carefully before you buy your own van. The sales pitch is superb but thats all that is.

“My partner suffers from a condition where he cannot...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/02/2010

My partner suffers from a condition where he cannot walk far without exhaustion so on booking over the phone for combe haven we were assured we would get a decent caravan practically sitting on the main complex. On arrival we found this was complete lies and were placed far far away from the back of the complex at the bottom of the steep hill there in a particulary busy week. Secondly a bedroom stank so strongly of cats urine it would make your eyes water(im serious). After a lot of complaining a bad attempt was made at cleaning it which achieved... the smell remaining. All in all we feel the staff could have done a lot more, and were more interested in standing chatting around with each other. After years of using havens we will never go back to any of their parks. Why would you if you get treated badly for something your paying for? Im not even going to mention overpriced food and drinks or the landfill refuse mountain at the rear of the park.
