great entertainment. went to butlins minehead the chalet was disgusting bathroom was filthy, stains on carpet, curtains and pillows, dust everywhere a monkey could of done a better job cleaning it.All that money people pay and you cant even update the chalets, there was paint coming off walls the windows wouldn't open properly it felt like we was staying in a abandoned place. my car was damaged in the car park and no one left a note so me and my daughter had to pull over on the hard shoulder on the motorway because they had hit it that hard they made a big bulge in my tire so it took us 7 hours to get home where it only takes 2 and a half hours all you think about is MONEY and fit as many people as possible in the place DISGUSTING i won't be going again

“Not as good as skegness”

Just returned from a short 4 night stay and have to say was not impressed. Firstly i paid extra for housekeeping mainly to get towels included but when i arrived there was no towels in chalet, i went to accommodation facilities and was told the towels would be there in ten mins waited half an hour still no towels so went back and was told oh OK have these towels then. secondly the chalet it self was in need of some TLC from very dirty windows to marks (no idea what of) on the walls. the shops are very expensive (but this is to be expected) There is not much for adults to do during the day but the night entertainment is good. Nice beach just across the road and only a short walk into minehead town center. Food was very nice a varied and drinks not too expensive(£3.50 a pint)

“nothing for under 2 year old's”

★★★☆☆

written by on 02/11/2012

We just booked a fmaily holiday for 5 with my daughter and her 4 year old son. Also took my 15 month old grandson Very disappointed in entertain, ent for young children. Nothing catered for under 2's. There was Bob the Builder fun fair but he could only go on 3 things and they wouldn't let his 13 year old uncle to take him on so missed out on some rides The skyline stage shows were great for 5 - 9 years old's but under 2 'sget bored and could wander off. Nursery was £6 for 2 hour session so never bothered. We had to end up paying £1 per ride inthe arcade to entertain him My 13 year old son came down with sickness and diarhoea day before we were due to leave - many people had it but no compensation. My daughter left a day early as her bedroom had a flood from another chalet behind us who had left their taps running, so she and her 4 year old came down with a bad cold and cough so went home. Butlins suctioned and put dehumudifier in as no other chalets available but she left before then Most staff were foreign. Ocean Drive restaurant was oka but a bit of a free for all - food fine most days but same food daily mostly though a choice of about 6-7 dishes my opinion, entertainment good for adults and older children though lot of singing - a few good acts, comedy, derren brown type and mainly tribute acts quite expensive given basic chalets - we paid over £900 for silver rooms half board too many people and no chance of getting a venue seat unless you queue up an hour before doors open in the rain lots of money spent on top - may go back to hoburne in paignton next year - sorry butlins minhead was a disappointment

just spent 5 days at butlins minehead and was very disappointed. My daughters aged 4 and 2 loved it. the entertainment was great for them. The silver accomadation however was very bad. we had stains on all of the bedding but i took are own which was lucky. The shower leaked and left the bathroom flooded, the curtains were dirty, the tv would work and we had ANTS. When i complained the staff were very relaxed about it and just sent someone round to spray the room. When i questioned their relaxed attitude they said the Ants are very common and it happens alot. while there we met another family who had ants also. I am a smoker but i would have expected smoking areas around the park but there was not, resulting in cig buds everywhere. Overall the kids loved it and had a fantastic time but we won't be rushing back anytime soon. Butlins needs a complete refub and clean up.

Myself partner and two children have just had a 5 day break in minehead butlins due to a technical problem after a massive power cut throughout minehead on the last evening the last nights entertainment could not carry on due to the fault my younge nephew had waited all day to watch the lazy town show and when they announced that the show would not be continuing they asked parents if they had a camera they would be able to take pictures so off I went down to the front of the stage to have pictures with the characters only three of the masked characters returned to the stage and we were unable to have any pictures with them again my nephew was very upset as the red coats implied that we were able to get up close and personal with all of them !! A bit shocked that the main characters did not return and it seemed as if they couldn't wait to get out of there NOT GOOD !! After leaving centre stage we proceeded to go to bar Roso where I ordered two drinks and when I went to pay by card I was then informed that the machines had gone down I went to my purse and was 35p short for the drinks there was no offer of having the drinks anyway terrible communication with staff In not informing us befor purchasing the drinks that the machine was not working !!! However we had a cracking deal almost 400 cheaper than the original price and opted to have the bed and meal deal which included breakfast and dinner I have been seriously unimpressed with the food as it was blaned also it was clear that whatever they didn't finish that day was badly transformed into another random meal the next day I would have been fuming if I had paid the full price disgusting does not even come close Really really unimpressed with the visit due to poor efforts with team member to make a bad situation good again and as for food well Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey would be disgusted with the meals chances are you would not be able to pay me to experience that again kids enjoyed though

The Butlins accommodation is bit pot luck. Our Silver appartment had clearly seen better days and was well overdue a refurb, some of the standard appartments that had been refurbed were in much better condition. Our apparement was damp and smelly and very much battered intenally, clean to a good standard though. We did dinner, bed and breakfast and the food was edible but nothing spectacular. Staff were brilliant regardless of nationality. Beware extra costs -bouncey pillow £2 for 10 mins, crazy golf £2.50 per person, bouncey castle £1.50 for 10 mins, tree Climb £3, bungey trampoline £5, Go karts £5 and so on! Not much for kids who had outgrown characters but were not yet 9 years old. Would go back but would upgrade to gold.

“We have just got back from Butlins Minehead, I was in...”

★★★★☆

written by Angelcake71 on 07/09/2008

We have just got back from Butlins Minehead, I was in a party of 8 so we had to have 2 chalets, luckily they did put us next door to each other. The accommodation was of a good standard (silver plus) and quite spacious with heaters in all of the rooms and a nice bath with a power shower. The beds were a little hard. The downside was passers by would walk right close to your chalet and look in the window. The swimming pool was great, with plenty of lifeguards who did their job well, but the black hole flume was closed all week, not sure why also it is only open from 10 to 5pm each day, so with a check in time of 4pm you don't get a chance to go in the pool on the first day you arrive. The changing rooms were pretty bad, half the lockers didn't work and there were no cubicles if you liked your privacy a little unclean too and crowded. The funfair was pretty good, but they had height restrictions on the waltzer, and even the pirate boat. I could understand there been height restrictions on the skyliner and the the cage but it meant my 10 yr old son, could not even go on with a parent on any of the older rides Although I understand the safety aspect I think if a parent is going on with them it should be ok...so if you are under 1.4m you cant go on ANY of the bigger rides. The go-karts were great and quite reasonabaly priced. Now on to the Skyline Pavilion great place, very noisy though but kept us dry. My kids went on the bungee trampoline which was £5.00 which was an ok price also the climbing wall which was also £5.00 the instructor was very nice. Mine were too old to appreciate Bob the Builder, the skyline Gang and Barney the dinosaur but great for younger kids, they had a fab circus show on too. There was a good range of shops in the Boardwalk with anything from sweets to souvenirs to groceries which were not too pricey, nice to look round. Cashpoint machines were on the site though there was a small charge to get money out, lots of amusement arcades, which mine loved. The ten pin bowling was great but quite expensive. They had paintballing and laser quest we found those on the last day! So not sure what that was like. The high ropes was outdoors but it was quite wet when we went and I think it was about £10 per person. They had 2 outdoor adventure playgrounds one for the older kids and one for the younger kids. Both were pretty good and FREE! There was also a free indoor soft kids area which my younger ones enjoyed, an outdoor jumping pillow, which was not free and kids trampolines which mine enjoyed!! The Food: lots of choices of eateries we ate at Burger King once (about £25 for 8 people) and The Pizza Hut where it was about £50 for 8 people not including starters but drinks and the ice cream factory, which me and the kids loved if you don't fancy these there is a Tesco and Macdonald in nearby Minehead plus other eating places. The rollover hotdogs were nice as a snack!! The clubs: GREAT but very hard to get a seat unless you are prepared to queue for ages and this was the beginning of September but the entertainment was great which lots of good cabaret acts. Shortage of bar staff meant long waits for drinks as well as standing up. They need to either put in more seating or another clubroom as it was the same in both of the venues. The Redcoats were really good and lively overall we had a good holiday but you do need a lot of spending money if you want a peaceful and relaxing holiday then don't go to Butlins as I am more knackered than I was before I went!!

On the whole excellent holiday - plenty to do - 5 days was enough but still didn't get round everything. Will be returning but wish they would CLEAN the accommodation with bleach. A tip if you have not been before take plenty of cleaning materials and one of your party go to the chalet first to give it a clean before the children arrive.

“We arrived at Butlins Minehead on 8th August 2008 for...”

★★★☆☆

written by Kraggy on 16/08/2008

We arrived at Butlins Minehead on 8th August 2008 for a one week holiday. We had booked Standard accommodation, which is exactly what we got! Rooms are basic with no towels or maid service. Bed was broken at one end and the carpets were filthy and seemed like they had never seen a Vax! Bathroom basic and clean, although extractor fan did not work. Plenty of hot water though. Food in the Coral restaurant is good and plentiful, though you have to fight with the crowd to get anywhere. Staff are very good and tables cleaned constantly. Check your cutlery though. Some had bits of food from the last meal remaining, which put us off straight away. The free entertainment is excellent and the redcoats work their socks off to keep everyone happy. Be prepared to have plenty of cash to entertain youngsters in the Skyline arcade. Most rides cost £1 and last no more than 2 minutes, which, in my opinion, is a rip off. Vending machine prices are hiked up and you can expect to pay 70p for a standard chocolate bar. The holiday is great for the kids, who do not have money worries, but can be stressful for parents on a tight budget. Swimming pool is great and caters for all ages. Plenty of life guards, which is reassuring. To be honest, I, as an adult, got fed up after the third day, but if you have the cash and plan ahead, then the kids will have a great time. Would I go again? I would have to think about it...

I was surprised at the price for a 4 night stay £600 pounds at Butlins, Minehead self catering. I went with holidays in the sun and now realise what a good offer this is compared to the normal price which equates to all inclusive holidays abroad.

written by on 02/06/2008

I am a premier club customer, I have been going twice a year since 1990. I have always enjoyed the holidays and it has changed so much for the better since I first began going. My children always loved the entertainment and still do 18 years on. I think the only fault with Butlins are the prices and the chalets. Everything used to be free on the site however there are more things that have been added which you have to pay for. For a child to have there face painted the price is £2.50 if you have 3 children this works out very expensive. There are other things you also have to pay for like climbing, go karts, driving school for kids, bouncy castles. I think Butlins should make everything free even if it means adding £10 extra to the price to stay at Butlins at least then you have no extra charges when you arrive. The chalets are ok but some are very dirty and have rude writing scratch all over the doors, this is not nice to look at.

Stayed in Silver standard 3 bedroom accommodation for adults only 80's weekend - All rooms where tidy and clean and up to date although no towels was poor and pillows where very poor but all round can't really knock the place.
Plenty to do and lots of fun to be had but a long weekend is probably plenty of time to have to fun.
Site was clean and tidy

We are going back to Butlins this Friday for our annual February half-term holiday, and we will go again in the summer, and possibly in October, but only if the prices for October come down.

With all the problems I have had, it's still a lot of fun for my kids, and I recommend it often to my friends and family. It really is a great family holiday!

We got a dirty bungalow at Butlins in Minehead, and our toddlers light socks soon turned black on the carpet. There were ants all over the bungalow, and even on their welcome sheet it warns of ants!! Does that mean we have to accept it? I didn't.

★★★★☆

written by harley03 on 27/04/2005

We went to Butlins in 2002 on a sun holiday and stayed in a sliver accommodation...which was very shabby, but apart from this had a fantastic holiday. So we booked to go again in 2003 where we stayed in a Deluxe half board room. These was really excellent standard, clean and tidy plenty of room for a family of four. The food on a half board basis was pretty good too, plenty of choice, nice and hot and you are able to eat as much as you want too which is handy with 2 children especially with all pop and squash being included in the price.

Entertainment was of a very high standard. day and night time kids loved it all and so did mam and dad.

Red cots were fab with the children, really friendly and had plenty of time to spend with the children.

food in the on site restaurant was very expensive and so was the drink.

But we are going back again this year and really looking forward to it.

Just one suggestion if you do go book gold accommodation or above as all other is of a very low standard and treat yourself to half board too...will save you loads of money in the long run.

One tip too...book like we did on site at the end of our hols and you can save yourself up to 50% off.

Give it a try and enjoy!!!!!

we won a holiday at Butlins Minehead in the Sun Newspaper and we thought it will be utter rubbish. After a long journey from Portsmouth to Minehead We eventually got there to find it busy and very very big. We got to the reception in the skyline which was not busy at all and got our key and off we went to get the luggage from the car then we walked with 2 trolley loads of clothes etc. We could not find where we were meant to go. At last we got to the apartment and collapsed on the sofas.
