Food Poisoning
My partner went to the London Angel and Islington slug and lettuce the other month and ordered the Ultimate Platter which includes the likes of garlic bread, breaded mushrooms, onion rings, chicken strips and BBQ ribs. He was very ill with food poisoning for the next three days. The other day I myself went to the Slug and Lettuce in Liverpool City Center, my friend and I shared the Ultimate platter, she does not eat red meat so I ate the ribs myself. I'am now currently suffering with food poisoning that started last night. I personally will never eat there again, but for people considering taking a visit to a Slug and Lettuce branch I strongly suggest you avoid the BBQ ribs, as you want to pay for it like I'am right now. . . TRUST ME!
Appalling Service From An Amateur Outfit.
Whilst being involved in a national charity event visiting Durham, I had occasion to visit the local 'Slug & Lettuce' to take lunch and subsequently discovered the service from the kitchen was nothing short of appalling.
The waitress who served my colleague and me was very professional and brought us drinks, but failed to inform us of a probable delay in the serving of food until after taking our order and informing us that no fish courses were available at all. The delay, incidentally, was supposed to be around thirty minutes, which was acceptable at the time, but after fifty minutes I had to request an update on our order before we had to depart due to the schedule we were on.
She promised the meal would arrive within five minutes and so it did. A pre-prepared dish of ‘Smothered chicken’ that was little short of being absolutely destroyed in a microwave oven! Virtually an hour to serve something that would have taken but a few minutes to microwave and the chips served with the dish were stodgy and nearly cold!!!!. . . . Nearly an hour for a meal of this standard is not disappointing, it is absolutely disgraceful.
Having received the meals, I considered the wait that we had endured was completely unsatisfactory given the state of the dishes and the fact that the restaurant wasn’t what I would have considered particularly busy at the time. Unfortunately, both me and my colleague were quite hungry, having not eaten for a number of hours and as we were now running considerably behind schedule, I did not have time to bring our complaint to the duty managers attention.
I can only conclude that the staff working the kitchen on this particular day were either stressed by something that was not evident to customers, or totally incompetent at micro-waving ready-made meals! The waitress was certainly embarrassed at having to keep apologising for the delay.
Bad enough that the meal was so disappointing, but it says everything about the Slug & Lettuce that they didn't take the trouble to even acknowledge my complaint (by email as well as on-line feedback).
NOT RECOMMENDED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!
I sincerely hope that this incident could have been a ‘one-off’, but regardless of the circumstances that caused this issue on the day, it does not contribute to creating happy customers and I for one would not be recommending the Slug & Lettuce (Durham) to anyone looking for an establishment to eat.

I Was So Disappointed With The Standard Of The Mea
I was so disappointed with the standard of the meal at the Slug & Lettuce in Liverpool on 18th March 2011. I ordered steak and chips.
The steak tasted and smelt dreadful and I coulnd't eat it. The chips were the worst I think I've ever had in a restaurant. They had obviously been blanched and re heated and tasted disgusting. The salad didn't taste particularly fresh either.
On a positive note, the staff were very helpful and changed my meal. I ordered a BLT which wasn't bad but the baguette wasn't very fresh. I didn't enjoy my meal having been very put off the whole experience.
I won't be back!

I Went With Some Friends For Lunch And We Waited A
I went with some friends for lunch and we waited about a quarter an hour to be served. Then we waited about another half an hour for our food. When the food arrived my friend's potato was cold and had to be reheated. Overall the food was nice but the service was quite poor.

Me And A Friend Decided To Go Here In Our Lunch Ho
me and a friend decided to go here in our lunch hour, emphasis on the HOUR. we ordered at 12.10 and was told at 12.45 that they hadn't started our food yet as everyone had ordered at the same time. that was complete bull. We had 3 business men next to us who were just sitting down as we ordered, they were served about 25 minutes before us they were done and out by 12.55. about 6 other tables were served before us, all of which arrived AFTER us. when we called someone over they told us it would be a further 15 minute wait and when asked if this was ok we said not really, we have to be back at work in 15 minutes, they then went away and came back to tell us it could be done in 7 minutes, it didnt come out until 12.50, we had to wolf it down, couldnt finish it in time and ended up feeling very unwell. we asked to have our food in a doggie bag, instead we were asked if tin foil was ok..
Overall bad service, will give it to them that it was lunch time, would recommend normally as they are usually really good, but because we were casually dressed and werent in suits like this businessmen sitting next to us, we didn't look as important as they did we weren't classed as urgent as they were.

The Slug And Lettuce On The River In Richmond, Lon
The Slug and Lettuce on the river in Richmond, London (not Yorkshire) is a mediocre affair. The staff looked bored and took our order like a robot. Decor is ok if a bit dated and not very original just like other Slug and Lettuce bars. It lacked any atmosphere at all.
On the plus side the location by the Thames is a superb place to go for a drink. The pints were served in plastic which is a bit rubbish but it means you can enjoy a pint by the river in the sun. An amazing place to be in the summer.
Overall I love the location and if you treat the place as a simple pub for getting beers that you can take outside it's all good.

I Expected Average Pub Food From Slug & Lettuce -
I expected average pub food from Slug & Lettuce - you know the kind: looks all right but after you finished it just filled you up.
However - the roast dinners looked very nice - sort of fresh and not like usual droopy, sad looking pub roasts.
I ate the 'Slug Platter'. Prawn crackers, potato wedges, mexican chicken strips and more I can't remember. It was meant as a starter for three or four but it did the trick for one. Oink!
Highly recommended.
