I Saw This Intel P4 Prescott 2.8 800fsb Processor
I saw this Intel P4 Prescott 2.8 800fsb processor at Watford savastore and it was the same price as the P4 northwood version.
This is supposed to be a little slower than the Northwood however it was delivered promptly and I installed it in my ASUS P4P800 motherboard. The Asus allows you to overclock the processor by setting levels of 10, 20, or 30% so I simply set it at 30% and away it went. No problems and a 2800 chip running happily ay over 3.6 ghz with the latest technology. Brilliant.
PLEASE NOTE: Not 2 processors/motherboard are the same. Therefore clocking speeds will vary. don’t try and over clock your CPU if you are running on Stock parts. it won’t cut it. also, don’t try it if you’re not familiar with computers in general. however, if you get a better motherboard and a liquid cooling sys, then I can ALMOST promise you a much higher over clock freq.
for his 2.8 to be clocked at 3.6 is pretty amazing. and you shouldn’t try it. I'm surprised his chip hasn’t burned out by now. I have seen very few people clock their CPU chip 800mHz higher than stock Without a liquid cooling system. because, once, you hit 3.4 GHz the CPU temperature sky rockets (with a air-cooled heat sink). If you don’t believe me, research it for yourself. However, if you have a liquid cooling system, then it is a whole new story.
Standard Intel heatsink but please note-
I have changed mobo to Gig 1875 and temps have gone up to 70+ on load. I then put in an erocool deep impact 102 with two fans and this made no difference so I can only assume variances with temp sensors.
The prescott is now running at stock speed.
Please could you tell me what CPU cooler you used to overclock the Prescott to 3.6ghz?
