Soldner - No fluid opening of doors and fluid entrance/exit of vehicles, you just warp in/out most rooms have one chair and nothing else in them, destructible buildings are predictable and look bad. Game is very slow-paced.

“I bought Soldner as an impulse buy yesterday, I was...”

    ★★☆☆☆

I bought Soldner as an impulse buy yesterday, I was reading the manual on the tube home and thought there was some real promise, from all the mention of the kit.

Single player campaign instructions were rather sparse though, which was a bit worrying.

Basically, as a single player game it is terrible. You start the campaign, go to a console to pick your mission, or another to get weapons from a limited supply, and the same with vehicles. If you get weapons before you pick a mission, sometimes you permanently lose the weapons. If you select a vehicle, then another one, the second will drop onto the first and both will blow up.

In game, enemy AI is rubbish. When you approach a compound, the enemy spots you and vehicles drive around in random patterns, crashing into buildings. leave them long enough and they'll blow up through accumulated damage. Soldiers are pretty dumb as well. Vehicles will also quickly attempt to run you over when you're on foot, which can be frustrating. Everytime you respawn, you've lost weapons, kit and vehicles, and have to reselect everything. It's tedious. The map layouts are poo - small areas, obvious objectives, blah blah blah.

Haven't the designers played operation flashpoint? If so, did they lose their notes on it or just choose to make something absolutley rubbish? Graphically, it's ok, but the textures are badly done and are displaced or appear when your five feet away e.g. helicopter pads. I didn't even bother trying out multiplayer. What's the point?

Avoid, avoid, avoid. My copy is going back to Game. It sucks.

Soldner is a MULTIPLAYER game ! Any "review" that didn't even try MP is totally pointless.

But you don't need to play multiplayer to determine that production standards in a game are rubbish.
