“Huge site. Caravan was excellent, good standard, clean...”

written by on 20/06/2010

Huge site. Caravan was excellent, good standard, clean etc. Thought the caravans were very close. We did not have much privacy and always other people at either side of caravan.

Lots of rabbits about as the surrounding dunes are protected countryside. They did cause a bit of a smell!!

Felt ripped off by the £25 Entertainment Pass Charge. As Adults we did not use the daily activities organised by the resident teams, so we had to buy a pass just to gain access to the Showbar and Strikes. The evening Adult entertainment was terrible. This started at 9.15 for one hour if that. The resident team worked hard singing and dancing, then came the Adult Entertainment. It was delivered by the resident compere who thought being sarcastic and constantly telling everybody "You are on your holiday's you know", was funny - Not!!!

Each night a very childish game was played by picking people from the audience. It was really embarrassing and awful and we could not stop feeling that we had been ripped off In all we had paid £75 for that!! I was very disappointed. There where no visiting singers, or groups as previously advertised. This was our biggest disappointment. Please stop robbing people!

“Have been to this campsite/holiday park for...”

written by on 18/05/2010

Have been to this campsite/holiday park for years...couldnt fault them on the hiring of the static caravan side. They'll do anything for you if you hire a caravan, couldnt be more helpful..really really great. Then we went camping one year.
What can we say...facilities were awful, although they have a private bathroom you can use, showers were great. Yes great until there was no hot water. 'Not our problem' they said. 'Yes it is' we said. Two days there was no hot water, nothing apart from re-directing us to another shower block the other side of the campsite. Tepid water.mmm okay Im not fussy at all but come on!...electric went third night, maintenance came out ' oh we're only repairing it once, then we're going home, its not our problem'. Okay so we had our problems and thought they were having a bad year but relatives camped there last year...same again, problems with hot water, electric cut out..only they went to reception which happened to be on fire at the time. You really couldnt make this up. The playpark slide was broken to the point of anyones child hurting themselves seriously but again if you hire a caravan, well, treated like royalty. Moved and upgraded if any problems, couldnt be more polite. Very strange campsite/holiday park. Two different worlds. If you're in a static, best place...camping, well good luck!

written by on 21/10/2009

Myself, Partner & 2 children stayed at the campsite October 2009. It was our first family & camping holiday and we had a great time. We stayed in a Prestige caravan which was clean & close to the entertainment centre & shop. Evening entertainment was very good the children joined in with the activities & were up until midnight (they are 4 & 1). The only faults we have are the pool opening and closing times. Also on our first night we went to the restuarant and were told there was a 50min wait for food, bearing in mind it wasnt peak season & the resturant wasnt even half full. We opted for a Burger King instead & didnt use the restuarant again.. We would recommend this place & we will be going back to it in the future.

written by steboswell93 on 12/09/2009

i thought the overall Perran Sands camp was brilliant lots to do for all the family
there is entertainment on every nite for evry age group although i thought the shallys was disgusting it said seating for 5 and there was only 3 seats there excuse was there was no more room to put further seating (even no we paid for the 5 people shally)they told us to use the wooden chairs from the dinner table to sit on.
the cooker was disgusting we wudnt even cook off it and the fridge and freezer was all rusty at the bottom like there was a flood at 1 time in the shally there were cracks in the walls and what appeared to be blood splatered up the wall near the door the windows were so dirty u cudnt even see out of them all of this even no we paid 20 pounds extra so we cud get in earlier so they wud clean it quicker and all of these faults were down to wear and tear apparently i am not trying to put any 1 off going to perran sands but if u are thinking of going dont go in the shallys try to book the caravans because they look beautiful inside over all it was a great holiday

Visited Perran Sands between 9/08/09-23/08/09 with a touring caravan, good end pitch with waste and water close by. toilets and shower blocks were a long walk, but the blue facilities were a little cramped but normally clean and to be honest the times that the facilities were dirty was due to other campers poor hygiene habits! I found the staff to be helpful and friendly and were constanly picking up litter that fellow campers have dropped!! The downside was the shop prices, I have been camping for many years and this is the most expensive campsite shop I have ever visited, also be prepared for a very long walk to the beach, if you have a lot to to take to the beach drive to the carpark to access the lovely beach. There was also alot of loud music after 11pm which is difficult when trying to settle young children and it is overpriced compared to other sites.

“We have just got back from Perran sands(Haven).Firstly...”

★★★☆☆

written by babsarella66 on 15/08/2009

We have just got back from Perran sands(Haven).Firstly I would say it is the most fantastic location.
We stayed in a tent(our own) and paid nearly £400 for the week which I thought was very over priced. The pitches were small and our bedroom backed onto another tents bedroom allowing just a 4 foot gap.
The toilets/shower blocks were the worst we had ever encountered.Filthy dirty at most times of the day.The toilet attendant seemed to stand around half heartedly mopping the floor(that's when we saw them which would be all of 3 times in the week and only ever in the morning). The toilets smelt awful too and made me want to heave, indeed automatic smelly sprays were placed in the loos when a damned good bleach and scrub would have solved the problem.
A sign outside the shower blocks stated that mon and wednesday was deep clean day and therefore each block would be shut(one monday and the other wednesday)To be perfectly frank they looked virtually no different and certainly no'deep clean had taken place'
Evening entertainment was average but the drinks were pricey. The food store was extortionate. For example a tub of hot chocolate was £1.99 and in a supermarket it's 99p...I understand that these small shops can be a bit more pricey but that is way over the top.(btw this was a supermarket in the same area..
The actual location is fantastic. We loved the beach. One of the best we have ever seen. It's a hike back up the hill and not for the faint hearted or disabled. You can walk right along the beach to the nearby seaside town in 45 mins. It's a fabulous walk with amazing caves to explore along the way and miles of beautiful white sand, amazingly clean too and very dog friendly.
We would definitely come to Perran Sands again but definitely NOT the Haven resort.
I've given 3 stars for the area rather than the resort.

“My husband and I went to Perran Sands the first week...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 05/08/2009

My husband and I went to Perran Sands the first week in July. I would say same as everyone else, save a fortune and book through a private owner. We had a 35' x 12' two bedroomed caravan (2 toilets) for £325. Same caravan through the site was over £600. Caravan was beautiful. Downside was it was sited exctly one mile from the shop and amenities, so it was a two mile walk through the site to fetch a morning paper, etc. Passes for entertainment/pool/amusements would have cost us £54 which we declined so we couldn't access any amenities. BEACH forget it! To get to the beach it's a killer! The steep climb down and up is horrendous, plus no toilet on the beach when you get there. HELP! Where does one relieve oneself - in a cave, in the sea?

“If you are going to book a caravan or chalet do it...”

★★★☆☆

written by mick275 on 02/08/2009

If you are going to book a caravan or chalet do it privately not through Haven, the Perran Sands site is really nice with big dunes and a fantastic beach but to access it through the site you will need to be quite fit, also if you wish to have a daily pass for the club/pool forget it, Haven will only give out 3 or 4 day passes minimum, the cheapest being £27 per adult or £16 per child, local taxi very friendly and recommend the Sunset Bar on the beach front hotel Perran Porth, also The Bowgie Inn near Crantock for nice drinks and my daughter loved the cookies, best beach was Porth Cothan on the road to Padstow, overall shop on site very pricey but not a bad place to base your holiday.

It was the first time we had been to a haven and werent sure what to expect however we loved it well worth the 400 miles we had to travel to get there the only problem was that there wasnt really any nice places to eat on site just a burger king, chippy and an overpriced retaurant with not much choice. The beaches are beautiful my favourite being a short drive to Fistral Beach famous for its annual surfing competition hey we even had a go at bodyboarding. We are returning again this june and cant wait.

Perran Sands is a good camping and caravan site, and we would return. We ended up having no car for the week, and the staff were more than helpful with garage details, buses and extra nights if needed etc.

Some of the chalets do look old and could do with a revamp, but this was a beautiful site.

I disagree with this review because I have just stayed at Perran Sands Haven Holiday Park, and I would never go back.

“We spent the whole of October half term at the Haven...”

★★★★☆

written by Blanchardfamily2001 on 29/10/2006

We spent the whole of October half term at the Haven Holidays Perran Sands Holiday Park. We had a Silver Caravan as we needed the space, having a baby and 2 children under 4. The Caravan was a 2006 Savannah model; 3 bedrooms, large lounge and kitchen, separate shower and toilet. As we went for the Silver caravan we had a microwave and bed linen provided, and we also hired a travel cot for our youngest.

We arrived late, being delayed by roadworks on the A30. Once we found the caravan (after a tour of the park, due to poor signs), we found we didn't have a cot in the caravan, so I went back to reception to arrange for a cot to be delivered, which it was in about 10 minutes. I was disappointed that some of the pillows were damp and had black mould on them, but once the fire had been on full for 24 hours, the caravan was nice and warm. Also, there were no loo rolls. The brochure asks you to bring toiletries and towels, but not loo rolls. The kitchen had ample supply of crockery, but missed some more important items - ie. bread board, baking tray and sharp kitchen knives.

The first evening we had fish and chips from the on site chip shop - I was shocked to discover the fish was bulk frozen, the batter and the chips were poor quality. Never again.

The convenience store comes at a premium, the few items we bought were about 20-30% higher than the village shops. I would recommend that any shopping is done in Perranporth, it has a large Coop, alternately a Morrisons at Newquay.

The road around the complex is in need of some repairs, as there are a few pot holes, so it needs some maintenance.

I took the eldest children to the Paws "Lets Make" on Sunday, followed by story time with Anxious the Elephant. They enjoyed doing stamping and making caterpillar puppets. In the afternoon we went to the beach - once we found the beach path.

Looking at the brochure it appears that the beach is just down a grass bank, when it is not. The beach path (concreted) meanders down the side of the cliff, before reaching the sand. It is fairly steep and popular, even in October.

On the 3rd day we woke to a cold caravan, the gas having ran out, so I made the 5 minute walk in the rain to reception, and by the time I got back to the caravan, the gas bottle was being replaced - great service.

We were on-site for a whole week. The caravans around us were let Friday to Monday, Monday to Friday, which surprised me as to why people would want to travel all that way for 2/3 days. The site appeared full, yet not crowded.

Out of the Park, the village of Perranporth is minutes by car. Park the car at the beach car park for £3 or for free at the car park behind the Spar shop. Visit the Ice Cream shop, with 30 flavours to choose from. Explore the rock pools, and you must visit "The Watering Hole"!, the famous Pub on the beach. You can also visit Lands End (£3 to park) with its optional attractions (£8.95), or just admire the view which is great, even in a downpour! Also visit The Eden Project (£13.50). Both are about a half hour from Perran Sands.

To some up, we had a wonderful holiday. The kids enjoyed themselves, and even though we had 2 dry days, we will be back. There are other features of the Park like the pool and the evening entertainment etc., but we did not use these, so cannot comment.
