“Save yourself £87 by avoiding this gift package”

★★☆☆☆

written by Brichard on 22/03/2024

Activity Superstore and Find Me A Gift (both company names are shown on the voucher) offer a "Four Star Overnight Stay And Theatre Package For Two" at £279, which my wife and I were given by my family. To use the voucher, bookings are made through a company called OMG Hotels. While you can specify the show you wish to see, the hotel is allocated by OMG. As my wife hates tube trains I requested a hotel as near as possible to the theatre (Piccadilly), hoping we would be able to walk between the two. We were allocated the Copthorne Tara Hotel near High Street Kensington (three miles/two tube trains away). The hotel room and service were good, other than some noise from the open tube line below, so no major issues there. Theatre tickets were for seats five rows from the back at the highest level of the theatre, with the front of the stage slightly obscured - hardly in keeping with the four star headline. The show itself (Moulin Rouge) was excellent - no complaints there. But booking the same hotel and theatre seats direct would have cost just under £192. I can see no justification for the gift voucher price. Deducting one star for each issue above (poor hotel location, poor theatre seats, poor value for money) leaves a two star rating, which I think is fair.

I was given a activity superstore gift last Christmas it was a one night away escape for two, we did look online and we did fill the activation code and voucher number to have a look, we did this around February but we never did book anything as we couldn't decide when to go. Now I'm trying to get on and filled every thing in again to have another look but it's now saying already been validated? What can I do?

Thanks for answering this question.

Hi, Not exactly an expert on them, but had one protracted and painful experience from which to learn. The complication with the vouchers is that there are different types, each with a pre-set value. My original post discussed some of the issues, but... First thing - ring them and ask for help, stay positive and ask for solutions. If they fail to come up with one, or only at further cost or inconvenience then advise them of your frustration and join what seems to be a large group of disgruntled customers. They got a lot of business via Argos, and so I would advise all reviewers to: complain to Argos, post details of alternative providers or even better - details of direct local venues. Good luck
