“Lacanche service”

★★★★☆

written by Henryh29 on 23/05/2023

I recently decided to have my 6 year old Lacanche Cluny serviced, primarily because I found the gas oven difficult to use due to temperature fluctuation. The booking process for the Lacanche Premium Service was efficient and staff helpful on the telephone. The engineer called to confirm his arrival time as promised. On discussing my concerns regarding the gas oven he proceeded to check over every part of the cooker, explaining what he was doing and also giving helpful hints on how to keep the cooker working at its best. He did find the gas oven was running low and in doing so found a gas leak at the connection which he fixed immediately and with a wider bore gas pipe. I couldn’t recommend the Lacanche engineer highly enough. My cooker is now running better than when first installed. My only gripe would be that the instructions which come with the cooker should provide an oven temperature comparison chart and also explain that the gas ovens do not have a pilot light and so require opening to regulate the temperature.

“Lacanche Cluny”

★★★★☆

written by flO'Neal416 on 26/12/2014

I have had my Lacanche Cluny for over 10 years. Its been great, it cooks for a large family and is on every single day. In that time I have only had two service calls and one of them was my fault. Great cooker, would buy another one.

“Looks great”

Inherited this cooker with the house 12 years ago and still going strong with only minor problems - its suits our period house and is still much admired. Recent excellent help from the LaCanche centre - thanks.

“A reliable friend”

★★★★☆

written by KarenClunylover on 01/04/2014

We bought our first Cluny 20 years ago and it is still going strong. A further one was added to our house in France (this one included an electronic button to ignite!). Stylish and very robust it is the centrepiece of the kitchen. I enjoy the simplicity of what it offers (there are no timers and little to go wrong). To the uninitiated, the burners are quite powerful (even the heat on the low burner is still quite fierce), but over the years I've become a dab hand reducing this to it's lowest level. Finally, whilst buying a Cluny seems an expensive purchase at the time, they do last really well, with my 20 year old still looking great. Frankly, I can't imagine any kitchen of mine without one.

“Love My Clunt”

★★★★☆

written by on 11/06/2013

I've had my Lacanche Cluny since December 2008. As we are a family of fivethe range is used every day. it not only looks great, but it's a real joy to cook on. The burners are really powerful but easy to control. I have read other reviews and have been surprised by some of the comments. I have had no problems with the range. The fan oven is great and as I do a lot of baking my range has the static electric oven, which i have found to be very good for cakes, biscuits and bread etc. We plan to move house soon and the Lacanche is moving with us!

not sure how this review could be written on 11/6/13 when as I write this it's only June 2013! And the title of the post? Hmmm... Having said that aside from this site the reviews on this range have all been pretty positive, and many of the former "issues" (no oven light etc. ) have been resolved. Wish the web site monitor would edit a bit better...

“very happy with my lacanche cluny”

★★★★☆

written by franca on 17/09/2011

I wanted an all gas cooker, with a large oven. The oven works perfectly and is not at all over heating (I bake using the temperature on the recipe and it works brilliantly). I love the sturdiness of this cooker. My problems were with trying to sort our initial fault (enamel was damaged) Furneaux de France -the British agents - were helpful, but there seem to be great miscomunication with Lacanche in France. Lots of back and forth. However, the company did give us lots of gadgets free of charge to make up for the disruption cause. If I knew I'd have so much trouble I might consider looking around for something else, but not sure I'd find something so solid. It's worked fine to date (since Feb 2011). I did not buy from John Lewis (as I found it a little cheaper elsewhere) but would now go there as I believe the after-sale service is very good and it might save me the grief I experienced.

I love this cooker! Can't believe how many negative comments others are making. I've had my Cluny for 6 years (gas/electric with wok ring). I have never had it serviced, and it has not caused me any problems. I have just broken the door seal on the gas oven, but my own fault. Yes, temperatures can be fierce, but just buy an oven thermometer - hardly difficult. I love the gas/electric combo, styling, high heat wok ring, ease of cleaning, size of ovens, hot grill. Downsides? you have to hold the ignition for the gas on a few seconds longer than normal - I can live with that. My sister has an Aga, my brother a Raeburn, and I am the happiest of the three of us overall. I didn't rate the service/support, because I haven't needed it!

I have had my Lacanche Cluny for ten years. It is of very solid construction - not like my sisters Smeg which is 'tinny' and took four people to manouvre into place because it twists otherwise! she has had no end of problems with it. Mine on the other hand is great. The burners going out as someone commented earlier is easily remedied by a gas fitter moving the sensors closer to the flame with pliers. The grill in the electric oven is slow to heat, but once hot it will out-perform other grills - at least you can finish off a creme brulee, not something you can do under a conventional grill, and I get over burning delicate items by moving stuff down to a lower shelf part way through. The simmer plate is awesome and comes into its own when cooking the Sunday lunch when you have so many pots on the go. As for the door 'distorting' what happened to mine is the internal door hinge on one side sheared off and had to be replaced. After ten years I have had one service (including the door hinge) a new grill element and replacement fan in one oven, which isn't bad after constant use for ten years. It also looks amazing, I have the backsplash, pan rack AND extractor to match in red and I love it.
No I DONT work for Lacanche either!

Had my Lacanche 3 years now and just love it. It is defiantly powerful and that took a few weeks to get use to, but after that you really can cook up a storm. So much so that when I had to cook on my friends Aga I soon gave up trying! The gas oven will give you the best roast potatoes and I just love using the griddle plate. Found the people at Lacanche to be nice and helpful.

“I have owned a Lacanche Cluny gas / fan oven with gas...”

★★★★☆

written by J Duffy on 04/02/2010

I have owned a Lacanche Cluny gas / fan oven with gas hob for just over 1 year so am just really getting used to it. It has some design faults (the knobs get hot and it has a range style bar which serves no purpose) but it is simple, solid and effective. Its easy to keep clean due to an all in one hob, cast iron supports and decent enamel/paintwork.
I have got better at judging cooking times with its high temp gas oven with a bottom burner (great for pastry dishes!) and stopped expecting recipes times to be as they used to be on my old cooker.

The service from Forneau de France / Lacanche has been excellent, especially as I was unlucky enough for a fan wire to go just after twelve months which they repaired with a new fan free of charge and quickly.

I have the optional steel simmer plate on my Lacanche Cluny, it's expensive but means youv have 6-8 pots on at one time...plus real slow simmering is an option.
I spent £500 on a service..door hinges, new grill element etc after 6 years. But it has been a delight to use and my cooking has improved because of it. Like a good acoustic guitar it responds to playing and practise. Real heat is the thing. Viking...leave to Frasier

We only ever had one replacement grill element in 16 years of ownership and we bought it from the UK distributor and fitted it ourselves.
