Having Lived With The Arcam Pairing For Just Over
Having lived with the Arcam pairing for just over 6 months now (I'm also running a Diva A65+ amplifier) I can justifiably state that at this price point it's unbeatable. I also auditioned the CD62T, which is the baby brother of this player. But the sound was noticeably thinner, the CD72T was definitely worth the extra £80 asking price between the two players. Those of you with mini-disc players that only accept optical inputs, will also be glad to know that the Arcam has both optical and electrical digital outputs. I know that price comparable Nad's and Rotel's lack an optical output for some reason. Combined with the great looks, I believe you can't really go wrong. Top marks!
I have to say that the CD72T is a nice player but by no way is good value for money, I have a Cyrus cd7Q and a Sony 930E ,and a 72T the 930E is a better player than the 72T, when you consider that it was £100 less than the 72T I felt a little short changed by the reviews in what HIFI and HIFI choice, the build on the Diva Kit needs a serious rethink, the cd drawer is uneven as is the milling on the front panel, nothing bare faced enough to warrant return but all the same should be better for the money in this highly contested price bracket.
I have also listened to the CD62 and found very little difference, some midrange improvements but only very subtle indeed.
The Arcam is a nice player for day to day consistency for middle of the road listening, feed it some wagner or something like norah jones which needs the maximum effort on information retrieval to make it happen the way it should and your going to feel a little uninspired.
Ooops. I stand corrected. Appologies if this mistake affected anyones decision making. Although i believe i am correct in saying that Rotels RCD02 has no optical output, though it's RCD1070 does.
Not sure about the Rotel, but I know that the Nad 541i does also have an optical output (as well as coaxial digital)- just FYI.
The CD72T is a superb player though.
