“As good as you can get from an inexpensive machine.”

★★★★☆

written by mikegray on 08/04/2013

I have been using this machine regularly for two years and I am happy with the results - I also have a two pump professional Gaggia and the coffee produced is every bit as good. The only weak point is the steam valve which tends to leak after years of use. Easily repaired with new seals. Several of the other reviews point to weak coffee. It's all in the grind. To make real expresso you have to grind the beans twice. Once coarse then very fine. It helps if you also roast your own coffee - apart from being much cheaper it is far fresher as I roast weekly and grind daily. My personal preference is for Italian style coffee which is traditionally mainly robusta but adding a little arabica helps for smoothness. My own blend is 20% Indian Arabica medium roast 70% Indian Robusta medium-well roast and 10% Vietnamese Robusta very well roast. I use a popcorn popper to roast as this gives me good control.

Bought for me as an Xmas present. Easy to fill and clean, makes good expresso with good crema, if you pack the coffee down well (the built in puck is a bit flimsy.) Steamer heats up quickly and produces a good froth, enough for a couple of cups. Makes such good coffee, easy to O.D. whilst "playing" with it!

If you're looking for a good value machine that will make one or two cappuccinos you couldn't fault this one. great for having complete control and making your coffee exactly the way you like it! The only fault is that there is limited power behind the steamer so don't go offering to make everyone a cappuccino at the end of your dinner party or you'll be there till next Christmas! Perfect if you only need to make 1 or 2 though. Bought for 50 pounds - have had it for 18 months and is still working fine - bargain!

The DeLonghi Bar 14 Cafe Treviso is a very very good value coffee machine. It produces the coffee reasonably quickly and the milk frother is great it gets all the froth like in a cafe!
One bad thing is that when attaching the coffee sump because the handle is plastic when tightening it on I think it feels like it is going to break, but luckily it hasn't happened!! A very good coffee machine for home use and easy to clean and of course great value!
Well Done Delonghi

I really do recommend this product.

Had this DeLonghi Bar 14 Cafe Treviso for three months now and find it very easy to use.
Main problem however is that the plastic supply pipes keep on getting a mouldy growth inside them if not used for a few days.
Does anyone know how to stop this?

Hi there,

Don't have this machine, but from experience on other coffee makers I would try to rinse the machine maybe once or twice with just water after you last use it?

Hope that helps!

Cheers

The DeLonghi Bar 14 Cafe Treviso is one of the best presents I ever been given. Cheap in price, very good in quality. Compact so doesn't take up a lot up space ."Neutral" design. Makes great espresso and manually controllable, no need to drag the cup away when you want a small espresso just switch the switch off. Works when you want it to.

“My DeLonghi Bar 14 Cafe Treviso Machine is one year...”

★★★★★

written by yamakasi on 09/08/2008

My DeLonghi Bar 14 Cafe Treviso Machine is one year old, and till now it's working perfectly. The most important part is to know how to choose the right coffee beans and how to grind them.
I suggest people to not waste their time and money with buying ready grinded espresso coffees from famous brands, because they are grinded for bigger and more professional machines and they will not work on this machine, because this machine needs softer grinded coffee, around 2 or 3 levels softer than the ready grinded brand coffees.
I buy my coffee from my friend's coffee shop, he helped me a lot untill we discovered the needed grinding level for my machine. But a grinder is different from a grinder, so you should figure out the best grinding level for you by yourself. If you keep buying your coffee from the same shop and same grinder then ask the seller every time about the level that he grinds your coffee, and if the coffee doesn't work well, ask him to grind it softer on the next time, and after several tries you will find the right level for your machine, and then every time you go to the shop you say, hey I want some espresso grinded on 5 (for example). Or you buy your own grinder and try different levels easily.
Also choosing the right coffee beans is important, I tried Colombian, Brazilian and Indian coffee beans (only these coffee beans are available in my country), and I've got the best results with Indian coffee, then comes the Colombian coffee. But the Brazilian coffee is not good for espresso, only cheap coffee shops use Brazilian coffee beans, at least that's the way in my country.
And finaly don't forget to heat up your machine well, at least for 10 - 15 minutes, even 20 minutes will give you better results. And before making espresso (before inserting the handle) run the machine to empty the water left in the pipes from yesterday, this operation will help you to get hotter and better espresso.
If the coffee is not soft enough then press it well in the handle, and if it's softer than normal then don't make much pressure in the handle.
And here is a final tip for making good cappuccino, fill a very little milk in a big cup then froth it , this will give the milk more room to froth and make the milk froth much more than filling all the milk you need and froth it at once. I make my cappuccino by frothing the milk in two steps, little by little.

Have a nice drink......

This is my first espresso machine and I started off using illy pre ground espresso which is perfect for this machine, I was pulling 30ml shots in roughly 25 secs after a few goes. It took me a while to learn how to steam milk adequately to get enough foam for cappuccinos, but once u get the hang of it, its dead simple. Just line up the surface of the milk with the offset at the lower end of the plastic nozzle and start from there. Practice makes perfect.

I have had my De'Longhi Bar 14 Cafe Treviso coffee machine for a year, and I love it!

I got it new for £35 from eBay, and I would recommended it to any part-time coffee enthusiast.

I have had the De'Longhi Bar 14 cafe Treviso coffee & Espresso machine for over 2 years, and I am very satisfied. Previously I have owned 2 other machines which cost over £200, yet the coffee didn't taste as good. Admittedly it does take a while to froth milk. However, on the plus side, as the machine has separate thermostats for both coffee and milk, there is no waiting time (for the machine to either cool down or heat up when alternating between coffee and milk). Due to fact that milk does take a little longer, I always make espresso after I have frothed the milk, or even at the same time.

In summary, this machine makes great tasting coffee. It is excellent value for money, and it performs far better than some other espresso machines that are more than 4 times the price!

The De'Longhi Bar 14 Cafe Treviso is a great value machine reasonably priced. Only Italians understand good coffee making so stick to Italian coffee machines.

“Having enjoyed great coffee on the Continent again...”

★★★★★

written by Andy Mac. on 01/10/2002

Having enjoyed great coffee on the Continent again this year, I decided to get an espresso machine.
Searched the WEB and found this DeLonghi Bar 14 Espresso was well rated because it is a 15 bar machine.

I liked the style and compact size and managed to buy the machine for £59.99 from Comet uk. (which I consider to be a bargain as similar 15 bar machines are over £120 including another similar spec DeLonghi which, as far as I can tell, apart from looking naff has only the ability to use coffee pods).

I look forward to coffee time each day now, go buy one!

sorry for typos I meant to write, "can I use ESE pods with the single or 2 cup coffee filter baskets supplied with the de loghi treviso bar14f-e or do de loghi make a separate ESE filter basket for the portafilter. I am finding the portafilter is spinning round in the head and detaching when the coffee is pouring out! could it be the gasket as well as the basket at fault?
