I have never had a computer that messes up so much and I work on them keep asking for a cmos battery and have new cmos put in and still having that problem.Locks up all the time and for no reason just locks up.Then you have to reboot and it locks up after a ourt anre maybe later you dont know.I do not and will not buy this toshiba and would not recommend this laptop to no one.It is probably toshiba's worse one!! I have another toshiba I use personally and its a S1 series and it gives me no problems but this one gives problems constantly you better run from the toshiba 6100 if you want problems then this is your computer but if you want one to work then this is not the one!!! Run fast as you can remember I work on them will not tell you nothing wrong I own another toshiba model so its not bashing toshiba! This will help you to keep your money and go another route! garbage of a computer!

Poor quality product, keys full off after just few hours of use.
DC charger failed.
Base of unit broke, Toshiba will not admit poor design and repair under warranty.
Would not recommend anyone to buy a Toshiba a laptop.

I have had the motherboard on my Toshiba 6100 replaced because of overheating problems. Now I have to have the motherboard, video card, and power supply replaced because of electrical problems. However, Toshiba has refused it under the warranty that the laptop was still suppose to have. In addition I have been working for 3 long months to have this issue resolved. I have never had such poor service and used a product so FULL of problems as this laptop has. I agree with the option to run from this product and avoid all Toshiba products and services in the future.

We own 2 toshiba 6100's. A 1905 and a 4600. Both toshiba 6100's have the same problem. They power up for a few minutes then shutdown. I called Toshiba support after reading all the problems that other toshiba 6100 customers have had. Toshiba support said there are no known problems and said to take it to a repair center and pay to have it fixed. I will never buy another toshiba product.

At least you should be right with Dell, its so cheap and nasty that you'll find it falling apart a lot faster than your Toshiba. The IT guy at your company sounds like a dill if he thinks Dell are the answer. Tell him to use the best in the business "TOSHIBA"

Well if you want to use a cheap, nasty computer use Dell. At least Toshiba have the distinct advantage of being an excellent company with excellent products.

Agree. My 6100 had a complete HD meltdown at 6 months and now, 6 months later, the MB, and VC died. I'm not happy and Toshiba probably won't get more business from me. I loved my first Toshiba and that's why I bought this one. Oh well...bye, bye Toshiba. I hear Dell is the hot item now, my company buys ONLY Dell, the IT guy refuses to have any other 'puters in the place.

I've just sent back my FOURTH Toshiba 6100 since October 2002 (in 5 months). Each one would all-of-a-sudden ask for the HDD password, rendering it useless per Toshiba Support personnel. An analysis by a data recovery firm said "The drive was found to have problems internal to the HDA (Head Disk Assembly). The unit was opened in our cleanroom / cleanbench. The unit was found to have disk media "stiction" (i.e. breakdown of disk lubricant)."
FOUR times? Run, don't walk, from this product.

There is an even worse design flaw with this machine. Laptop starts freezing and you have to do a hard boot after taking off batt. A Bad RTC CMOS error comes up.
The fix is change the motherboard and power system. Unfortunatelly this is only temporary as it comes back.
This is happenning to hundreds of 6100s and on the Toshiba forum is a hot thread.

The Toshiba 6100 may have a couple of problems, but it is still better by far than having a Dell or an ACER. Stick with Toshiba, they are still the best in the laptop market.

I have the same harddrive problem...if toshiba is aware do they pay for data recovery?

Guys,
Just to let you know that if you own a Toshiba 6100 although they do seem to have one or two inherent problems, any authorised Toshiba Repair centre will repair the unit free of charge for you. Toshiba are aware of the issues arrising through use of this unit and have extended the warrantee indefinantly.

I had the same problem with my Toshiba 6100 Satellite Pro and am now fighting with Toshiba. They have changed my hard drive 3 times - and want to change it a fourth time. I refuse. I want either a reimbursement or a new computer. This product is now discontinued but I'm staying away from Toshiba products.
