“What do we hear? The voice of Fran Healy, that through...”

★★★★★

What do we hear? The voice of Fran Healy, that through its frankness and gives us the feeling he sings with a swallowed tear in the throat. A deeply worked sound, the acoustic guitar at its peak. It is, after all, a Nigel Godrich production. Definitely more maturity in the musical approach, a visible growth from Good Feeling, and even from The Man Who. Simple, honest, direct lyrics. Highlights "Sing" a haunting theme, at the borderline from despair and hope, probably one of the most catchy indie tunes ever written. Almost the same with Side. More and more optimism in Flowers In The Window, a song of happiness, joy, hope. No dark sides, no melancholy, just an urge to jump around, to get out of bed and start the morning feeling the freshness and light and vitality around. A Love That Came Through (tune worth checking on their next album, 12 Memories). Same hope in The Humpty Dumpty Love Song (a masterpiece and perhaps my personal favourite). Lyricwise, distinctive. The story of the broken hearted in search for the one with the glue. The eternal search of the match, who doesn't have to be Prince Charming or a fairytale princess, it just has to be The One. All of the king's horses and all of the king's men/ Couldn't pull my heart back together again/ All of the physicians and mathematicians too/ Failed to stop my heart from breaking in two/ Cause all I need is you/ I just need you/ Yeah you got the glue so I'm gonna give my heart to you.

All in all, it is a very good album, perhaps linear in some places, but with enough highlights and good vibes to be considered top indie. Definitely, a Must! And a sweet goodnight album.
