We bought a voucher from buy a gift and booked the experience at a hotel. When we arrived at the hotel, buy a gift had cancelled the booking and not told us. There is no number to call customer service so it is impossible to speak to anyone

“Never give these vouchers as a gift!”

Don’t ever give these vouchers as a gift unless you really dislike the person. The website is pretty easy to navigate to BUY vouchers but pretty impossible when it comes to redeeming them. The whole thing is designed to make sure you don’t bother so they can keep the money. You’ll go round in circles, you’ll probably have to pay a bit extra or waste some of the voucher (and I’m pretty sure they deliberately don’t show you the experiences that precisely match the value of your voucher just to make it more difficult for you) and in my case when I navigated all that, spending a lot of hours doing it, the email address I was given in order to redeem my vouchers with my chosen company (royal museums Greenwich) did not work. Really just do not use this company. It is not a nice present. There are plenty of awful reviews out there yet somehow they manage to give the impression they have a good rating.

“Afternoon tea with bubbly “was a terrible product from Buyagift. From trying to negotiate redeeming the coupon on their website to the final “tea” was dreadful. Would not recommend. Give a present of a gift token from a local restaurant you know to be reputable would be more sensible. Strongly advise to avoid. The company is part of Moonpig cards.

“I bought a package that was a 2 night stay for 2 with...”

I bought a package that was a 2 night stay for 2 with an evening meal, afternoon tea and a bottle of fizz for my Mum’s 70th birthday. After booking the stay online and the computer freezing I never received confirmation. I contacted them and they reissued the voucher code however the voucher no longer included the afternoon tea or the bottle of fizz and as I was told the Ts&Cs state that things are subject to availability and they were no longer available. A little annoyed as I could have paid less money for a lesser package but ok I’ll accept that. However after trying with lots of problems I’ve finally tried to book again and all the hotels are wanting £250-£500 more money to book! The voucher had a £200 value and a local hotel wanted and extra £263 that would be a total value of £463. I checked the same days directly with the hotel and it would be £195 altogether. The voucher is completely worthless and booking anything through Buyagift is completely overpriced. They constantly just quote terms and conditions and don’t actually help fix any issues.

“What an awful company”

What a waste of time and effort, cant book anything, cant soeak to anyone, a total rip off if ever there was one. Never been on bookkng site where the booking site that is supposed to book it for you tells you, you have to call direct to book. If I have to call direct to book why do I need this 3rd party even involved. Also the contact us part of buyagift doesn’t contact anyone just sends you to the top of the website, would give this company zero stars but you have to give at least one star, STAY AWAY FROM THEM

CONTACT THE BRITISH TRADING STANDARDS - WE NEED TO SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN - FULL OF BAD REVIEWS BUT SHOWING 4.4* I don't usually leave bad reviews but this is honestly one of the worst companies to use for vouchers. Please make sure to do your research and go on the actual websites of the hotel/places you want to book as I can guarantee you its almost half the price that BUYAGIFT wants to charge for the same amount of nights and experience. When you get a gift voucher from someone and you look for places to book, the ones that are included on your voucher are like hotels next to a service station or basically might as well be travelodge. If you want something nicer, they'll ask for more money. When I asked for a refund from the amount yesterday that I paid, they said the voucher takes 24 hours to process and even after, they still can't give a refund because I've exchanged the place 3x. You can only book 1 place with your voucher so I wanted to make the most of the amount already on there so I don't have to deal with them again. I can only get a refund if I paid more money apparently. They said the price difference (as in double or triple the amount) is dependent on the days/season which is just rubbish as i was checking on both for the same dates. If you try to change your voucher to another place and then try to book the original place, they ask for more money AGAIN. They offer flexibility as in DISCOVER THE FULL RANGE but they don't tell you that if you do this more than ONCE, you can't get a refund. Also, I asked how much my whole voucher was worth and they said the original buyer put £114 and I paid £163 yesterday but they only credit my voucher with £176. So not sure where the rest went as I've not used it at all. Absolute rip off! I would really AVOID. Its really not a good present for your loved ones. Only a matter of time till this company go bust. Customer service is shocking. Unfortunately, I'm sure the staff have no morals and still sleeps well at night knowing they're working for such a company.

“Poor customer service, cost extra money, false advertising”

I bought my husband a Buy a Gift overnight Spa experience for his birthday last year. After the experience I’ve just had I never want to buy a gift from them again. We bought the experience so we could use it at a specific hotel nearby. However, when we went to claim this we were told by the hotel it’s only possible to book weekdays not weekends. Online it does specify certain dates might be restricted but not certain days. It was difficult to reach out to Buy a gift as they only have the online service you can’t call anyone. When I finally got through they said they couldn’t refund the voucher for false advertising only give me credit for another voucher. So I took the credit and used this to buy another overnight stay at another hotel which was under the credit limit so I also put an extra £20 towards another voucher for an overnight spa. As I did this I noticed that for the previous voucher I booked which was an overnight spa day for the hotel I had wanted spa wasn’t included anyway which is ridiculously false advertising for a spa day package. So I had my two new vouchers anyway and I wanted to book my hotel. When I tried to book the hotel there was no date I could select which didn’t charge me between an extra £20-£80. I feel like when you book a voucher this should cover the cost of the stay, you shouldn’t have to add more money to it. In any case I added £20 to book my hotel stay. Then it came to book my spa at the same hotel and again to book at a weekend I had to pay an extra £20. So I ended up overall paying £60 more than I should have just to book the hotel and spa when I wanted to. This was very frustrating. Had I just booked the hotel and spa directly I worked out that it would have been approximately £80 less than I actually paid! So they really are making a lot of money on these vouchers. I would recommend anyone to buy directly with a hotel not through buy a gift. The customer service is awful. To top this off when we went to the hotel and to the spa the boilers had stopped working at the hotel so the water in the spa was cold as were the showers. I’m still trying to get a refund from the hotel for the extra £20 I paid to have the spa day on a weekend. Overall a very disappointing experience, please don’t buy a voucher with this company. There is so much small print you will soon regret it.

“Fundamental failure”

The system for redeeming the voucher failed. Following the instructions on the voucher simply leads to the page offering vouchers for sale, with no apparent means to book the 'experience'. After booking directly with the experience provider and confirming that they accept the vouchers, it transpired that Buyagift should have sent an email with a redemption code. Following through the process again with the guidance of the experience provider led to the same result and no redemption code. Buyagift customer service had not responded after 1 week. I sent another email only to get a response informing me that their "customer service" email address is no longer in use. Their chatbot is virtually useless, with only limited stock responses. This is a fundamental failure of what should be a simple process.

Booked a driving experience,arrived to be told they don’t accept buy a gift even though it was on their site and they took £50 insurance which wasn’t reimbursed.tried to book a another experince and was told I would have to pay again.after a lot of arguing buyagift agreed to extend voucher as we couldn’t find what we wanted within timeframe.when I tried to book again they asked for an extra 120 so an experince that originally cost £200,they refused to honour or transfer to another experince and wouldn’t give a refund so I am out of pocket by £250 and my son didn’t get his 21st treat.diabolical service.

Just had an afternoon tea using a Buy A Gift voucher bought as a gift for Xmas, if it hadn't been for the reception staff this would have been a total disaster. They did everything that they could whilst we were having our tea to sort out payment and eventually we had to pay an extra £11 to Buy A Gift so that we could redeem the original voucher.

Utter nonsense from start to finish ... firstly the buyagift site diesnt even have date availability or calendar of any event to choose so basically you pay buyagift to do nothing !!! because you then have to call the venue yourself to make a booking !! so your paying buyagift for something you could have done without using buyagift!! Buyagift has no customer care , no contact number on site, no live chat available...complete nonsense from start to finish. dont waste your time or money and just call the event site directly and cut these chancers out of the deal altogether... Cant wait to see what twaddle their replies on here state....

Avoid this company. I paid an extra £189 on top of the original voucher for £150 to book a particular hotel in Bath but after paying the upgrade and going to the booking page I was told it would cost me another £174. So a total of £513 for a 2 night stay which I can get cheaper just booking that hotel with no voucher!!! AVOID

Could not use my voucher in the restaurant. I booked the restaurant via the buy a gift website and was not told or stopped from booking due to it being more than 60 days in advance. When I contacted buy a gift customer service they just hide behind their T&Cs and didn't want to know. I believe the website should have stopped me or flagged up that the booked date was more than 60 in advance. I think this company is tricking people.

“I paid for an experience offered on the...”

I paid for an experience offered on the website. Within 20 minutes I tried to redeem my voucher. The website said the experience is no longer available. The experience was available to purchase on the main website at the same time and still is 24 hours later. I spoke by chat, as there are no other options, to first agent Roseleen, having taken approximately 20 minutes to respond, she said the experience is available and the chat ended. I tried to redeem again and the experience wasn’t offered, although it’s still available to buy. I spoke with another agent approximately an hour later, he confirmed the experience isn’t offered and he could exchange my voucher for CREDIT voucher that can be used only on buyagift website for other experiences of the same value. I refused and asked for a refund. He started the refund process that will take up to 30 DAYS! In summary, buyagift took my cash for experience they couldn’t deliver at point of purchase, then they offered a voucher limited to their website. Agreed to refund that will return to me 30 days later. This case has been referred to Trading Standards.

Tried to book visit to Royal yacht brittania - "This experience is no longer available" voucher is " fully flexible, chose another experience " Good luck with that!!!!! Rubbish user interface, far too complicated and filters don't work. Gave up in the end. Never been so frustrated!

“Sham!”

You pay for a voucher when you try to use it you asked for more money. Hotels are cheaper to book your self. No phone number to get in touch with them. The chat on their web page is completely a fast as you get cut of after a couple of minutes they should be investigated by trade standards as this is a sham

“The web site is absolute rubbish.”

We were given a gift voucher at Christmas for £50.00. We wanted to go to RHS Wisley but the cheapest option was a visit with a tea at a hotel which we has to pay another £50.00 for. We have no idea where this hotel is and to pay £50.00 for a sandwich and scone is a blatient breaking. When we looked at the options a couple of months ago the tea was inclusive to the deal and all of of sudden it is £50 dearer. The price of a ticket to Wisley is £16.30 so all of a sudden the sandwick and scone is £67.40 for two. It would really have to to be a seriously good sandwich for that price. I think that Buyagift is a total sham. People buy these vouchers in good faith but the truth is you can achieve the same experience for far cheaper and when you receive a gift, you have no idea how much you have to add the the fee to get what you want. I would never recommend this method of giving a gift and would suggest anyone receiving one would say "Thank you very much" then putting it in the bim.

I have a voucher, got to the end where l presumed l put my voucher code again after already doing it at the beginning? It only has options for payment on debit card? I want to use my voucher.

I think you need to click on the "I have a voucher" or "Use my voucher" button and then enter the code and pin. Then select the activity you want to book. I believe the website is designed to be so complicated that you eventually give up or die of frustration, so they can keep your money. Good luck!
