My Samsung A800 lasted me 4 years, no problems, waterproof as well, i dropped it in a pond and it still worked perfectly. I got it only because it looked small and cool.

I've had my Samsung A800 phone for about 9months & my screen is starting to play up. The external display goes all funny and also sometimes when I open the phone the colours are the wrong way round. so what should be black is white and what is usually white is black! It's really annoying and also the lines of text go all funny! But only when it feels like it.
I took it back to the shop and they basically said it's wear and tear and there's nothing that can be done!
If any one can help me please get in touch.
Thanks

If you are looking for more business and less pleasure, then the Samsung A800 is the mobile phone for you. It has a massive address book which is really well organised and has a capacity of a booming 2000 entries! Lots of space available for messages. Can store upto 200. Really cool 16 preset ringtones and messages alert tones.Organiser, calculator, etc..very useful. But for those looking for more fun, this phone lacks good games(3 preset), has no ird port, no digital camera, and is not all that great for sharing pictures or ringtones. But all in all, it is a trendy phone!

I got this Samsung SGH A800 phone as a replacement for a stolen sony j70e. There is no major fault I would complain about, but having had the phone for 3 months I will be selling it and finding something better.
Compared to the sony, predictive texting is not so good - i especially miss the jog wheel on the sony allowed me to scroll through alternative spellings, both backwards and forwards. Also, to add to an existing phonebook entry, you have to first select the entry, then "edit", and then type the new number in. So if someone already in the book calls you from a different number, you can't just paste that in.
These are just niggly things, and if I'd only had a Nokia rather than a Sony before, I probably wouldn't even notice them. But the main problem are the select keys, which are placed right next to the navigation keys and are just too small and awkward for me to use - I'm forever hitting the wrong button.

overall, the Samsung A800 is really tiny and fits almost anywhere. you'll find the opening and closing of the phone quite fascinating in the beginning, like me. (i was using N8250 before) as the novelty wears off, you begin to feel that the design is rather troublesome. This phone does not come with mms and radio. Which makes a teenager like me super frustrated. However, the samsung A800's flashing light at the front is unique and pretty. It catches attention everywhere i go. if you are looking for something which is small, and you do not need mms and radio etc, this is the phone for you. i recently upgraded to a N6610. it is really value for money and although the ringtones doesn't sound as great, the sound quality of the radio is fantastic. the color screen is sharp and full of life as well.

This phone looks like something out of StarTrek. It's a bit kitsch and retro. The silver/chrome look makes it more of a ladies phone, as does the service light which has a range of gentle, pastel colours to display. There's no denying it's gadget value. It's tiny when folded, and the blue glow that emerges from the screen and keypad is eyecatching to say the least, but it eats the battery like nobody's business. If you turn the backlight off, you can't read the screen. There are plenty of polyphonic ringtones, but to me they all sound corny and showy. I wanted a normal ringtone of which there is only one and that isn't very good. It is a very easy to use phone with good memory capacity, which does all you need a phone to do, but it plays a tune like a gameboy sound effect whenever you enter/delete something like a phonebook entry or textmessage. Not only does this waste battery life further, but it's highly annoying and can't be switched off. The battery lasted short of two full days (though switched off over night) which is not enough in my view. I also had reception problems with this phone which in areas where my previous two phones were fine. There is no ramped ring setting, so if you have the melody switched on it it rings at one volume. Vibrate then ring mode should overcome this, but I got six vibrates, then only one and a half rings before my answerphone kicked in causing me to miss many calls as the vibrate isn't too noticeable. Overall, if you want a phone to show off with, this is your thing. It's tiny, showy and individualistic, it really stands out. If however you want a functional phone that has good battery life, good reception and is more discrete (i.e. doesn't play a tune whenever you do anything) then this isn't the phone for you. It's more of a fashion statement.

Just a few things on your fair comment on the Samsung A800. With ref to the battery life, alot of things drain the battery, yes back light that acts as a torch :) Please don't think I am insulting your intelligence, but the battery needs to be conditioned. Give it a full charge with the phone off then let it drain so it turns itself off. this needs to be done a few times. My first charge only lasted a day and a half, but now im getting about 3 days before a full charge is needed and thats leaving it on overnight. Also how many times you use the phone and what for and I am lead to belive the network provider coverage in a perticular area. The other thing with ref to vibrate then ringtones, if your voice mail is activated then it will kick in after a short time as if you are unavailable. The other factor maybe that after about ten rings of a phone most people put the phone down if no answer.
My only gripe with this phone is that you can't connect it to your pc to d/l ringtones like you can with the T100 ( shorter battery life on them!). The bloke in the shop said that they have the same connections so it should be ok. I tried this and I witnessed my phone going pop then lifeless, so don't be told otherwise :)

This review identifies the same problems I have had with the A800. I do not understand why the reviewer gives it such high marks.
