Best Used Car You Can Buy On A Budget

Lets get this straight, this isnt the greatest car in the world. it has common faults as do most cars BUT it has far more plus's than negatives.

As a used car its a great buy. you can get one for less than £1k with decent mileage. Its nippy round town and far better than other simular small cars of its class at this. styling wise it still looks great against newer cars 15 years on. the interior is pretty comfy the back seat a decent size compared to other small cars. petrol wise it runs above average. but all of this is down to how you drive. if you want a car that will cruise along and you don't have to actually DRIVE then its not for you. i'm 41 yr old man and i feel pretty happy driving it, its not a girls car in fact i reckon it'll suit a young lad better tbh. Common faults can be the usual you get after heavy mileage : gear box - clutch - belt - suspension. but these are regular faults in many cars. find a cheap local garage with a decent mechanic and this car really will go on forever. We took our 110000 miles 206 to wembley and back (440 miles) with a full load and had no problems at all - perfect first car or runaround for home or days out.

Just Keeps Giving

I"be had my peugeot 206 1.4 GLX 02 plate for about 4 yrs now and haven't had any major problems at all. My in laws had from new and then my sister in law had it and now myself. I'm only on here now as I have a slight rumble within the gearbox and I am trying to see if it's a common problem but as the car has done 83'000 plus and trouble free the past 4 yrs I have no problem taking to a garage.

Avoid At All Costs...... Unless You Like Wasting Money!

I bought my 206 (2003) 1.4lx in oct of 2009 with 42,000 miles, at around 45,000 the cambelt went, as did the timing belt, a few miles down the anti roll bar and pins, radiator, exhaust. At around 55,000 miles the drivers side rear axle bush went as did the battery..... need i carry on. Damn thing has cost me a fortune, and now at 70,300 miles the passenger side rear axle is playing up, its booked in at garage next week, and i will be damned if i will pay a bomb again, i shall prob just sell it as it is. So much for french cars, never touch one again.

Plus point, the engine is good on motorway, abit thirsty even for a 1.4, handling is ok. Can't really think of anything positive. Wish i had gone for a Japanese car instead, like Honda or Mazda.

A cambelt is a timing belt. So tell us again what went wrong on your car?

I Always Wanted 206 Cos I Liked The Look Of Them S

i always wanted 206 cos i liked the look of them so i bought one. less than 2 months later its in a garage with a broken gearbox! wich according to my machanic is a common fault. also about 2 weeks ago the temperature gage was flying up and down and stop signs kept coming on even though nothing was over heating, im guessing this is a sensor problem. i know by looking at it an driving it that its had a full new exhaust AND clutch so its probably had expensive problems in the past aswell! also its not very good on petrol it uses the same amount as my previous 1.6 ford escort and costs more to fill?.. :s. these cars are nice to look at but thats about it, i wont be getting another :(

We Have Had This Car For 5 Months (second Hand, 60

We have had this car for 5 months (second hand, 60,000km) and already spent a fortune on repairs, total desaster!! We've never had a car like this, the batterie lasts for only 3 years (we were stranded at a traffic light, main road...), the mini computer gives troubles and now we saw oil leaking from the car- the head gasket is broken and with it a few other things, repair cost £1300/R13000...we drove a ridiculously old 1992 Toyota Carina before and never had our car at the mechanics once a month like now!

My Now 4 Y/o Peugeot 206 1.4 (manufactured In Fran

My now 4 y/o Peugeot 206 1.4 (manufactured in France, driven in UAE) has given me 140,000 miles and counting and I am happy with it. It's my second one, the first from 2003-2006 gave me 75,000 good miles until a friend totaled it in an accident--friend unhurt, other driver--of fire engine--at fault. Only problems in 4 years was with alternator acting strangely--had to be replaced--and a/c problems twice. The strangest thing was that I did all the dealer recommended services at about 10,000 km every six weeks. Got fed up with all the charges for this and that so stopped the servicing and have done 100,000 km since with no problems at all. I've just changed oil and got filter cleaned every 20-30,000 km or so. (UAE roads generally very good, but extremely hot conditions half the year.)

While I Can Understand Some Of The Problems People

While i can understand some of the problems people ahve had with their peugeots, i guess i have been the luckier one, having bought mine 10 months ago second hand with just 41k on clock, done 11k so far, its has been running very well, apart from slight noises interior, rattles, very slight. My only drawback would be its pretty thirsty for a 1.4lx, even though its been checked etc. Good runner, lovely looking car, nippy. Every make of car can go wrong, not just peugeots.

exactly. machines go wrong they arent magic. you have to drive a 206 it feels like your driving it rather than coasting along. this means you need to be able to actually change gear properly - park properly and drive, unfortunatley people mostly cant.

I Love My Pug 206 Lx, But It Does Seem To Like To

I love my PUG 206 LX, but it does seem to like to show the ENGINE DIAGNOSTICS light on constant.

I have never had any problems with it until this year, the car does seem to back/miss fire and diagnostics is on, but the garage do not seem to know whats wrong with it.... i myself have some to the conclusion it is down to the lambard sensor and i will fix it this weekend and see if i have solved the problem.

But in all honesty the PUG 206LX does let you know whats wrong and most things are self fix.

I would buy again as its a great nippy little car and worth every penny.

I would just say to buyers of older cars 97-2006 check it over and take it on a motorway/highway test drive first and feel the car, she will tell you whats wrong if anything.
