I'd highly recommend the Maclaren Mac 3 to anyone who wanted to get out and about a bit - truly an all terain machine. Not for townies who live in crowded cities though who run a Ford Ka. It folds down pretty well but it needs a boot with some width and feels a bit wide and intrusive in crowded shops. We took ours with our daughter through some serious countryside: it took it in its stride. Its very stable and with the cozy and hood very weatherproof. It was well second hand when we got it but survived most of what we did to it! Yes the back tyres do wear -but front is still original, but this can be helped by putting smooth tyres on rather than knobblies which are fairly pointless: you are providing the power not the back axle! Also go for some tough inner tubes: some superior tubes and tyres can be obtained from any reasonable bike shop and they'll be a lot cheaper than going to Maclaren. Even cheaper is rob junked kids bikes at the skip which is what I did! It would seem that some suffer on tyres worse than on others I can only conjecture that tolerance on build leads to varrying wheel alignment which affects wear accordingly. Nice alloy wheels seem tough, light and don't rot as you prominade through boggy paths...
Why is there a front brake? Unless your child weighs more than you and you insist on going down 30 degree slopes it is not needed. The rear parking brake works fine.

I used this for both my children and used and used and used it!! It was in such good shape after 4 years that i decided to sell at a carboot sale, and just keep a light weight buggy for my 2yr old but have regretted it ever since! and have looked on ebay for a rplacement. Fab pram!! only down side - back wheels were quite wide and not able to fit into some shops. Despite what others have said, had no problems with the tyres, puncture once but never needed new tyres!

My Maclaren Mac 3 has been brilliant. Had it 5 years and hardly looks used. Its been on and off planes several times, used on smooth to rough, sand and rocky terrain and its never failed me nor have I ever had tyre problems. Great for the out doors but too wide for shops.

The Maclaren Mac 3 Three Wheeler folds up nice and small for a pushchair of it's type.
Very easy to use - "it does what it says on the tin" Despite what others have said about the tyres wearing out quickly. i have not found this to be the case. I have used my mac 3 for all three of my children and have only replaced one tyre and that was because of puncture damage! it is good and sturdy and despite the fact that some idiot tried to run over in their car - it still looks as good as new (only muddier!)

i have used my maclaren mac 3 for both of my children, i even bought a carrycot for it with my 2nd child because i was so impressed with this buggy. others have said that the tyres have worn rather quickly, i have not found this to be the case and believe me i have used mine a lot! what i did do however was go to my local bicycle shop and had bike tyres fitted that were less easy to puncture, we have a lot of hawthorn bushes nearby and they proved to be a hazard where punctures were concerned. i would have liked to have a car seat which was compatible with the frame for ease when out for short journeys in the car due to the size of the carrycot.

If you are tempted to buy the Maclaren Mac 3 three wheeler buggy, please be aware that the tyres wear out very very quickly due to the design of the buggy. Had it not been for this problem (we've had to buy 3 sets of rear tyres in 1 year) we would have given the Mac 3 a resounding thumbs up. It folds easily for storage in the car. It is very robust, and is excellent for taking your baby or toddler for woodland walks, or along the beach etc. It is very good with moderately difficult terrain, that you would not contemplate taking a stroller on. It's such a shame about the tyres though. It's a real nuisance to have to change them so frequently.

Good point about the wheels. Are there any good things to say about the pushchair? Suzy

I agree about the tires. I had my stroller for less than a year, and I only used it for less than 6 months and the two rear tires have completely worn down. One tire blew out while I was strolling my baby. I've called Mclaren and they expect me to mail the stroller to their center in Connecticut to determine if the wheels are out of alignment. It's absurd that they won't stand behind their product and just admit that the tilt in position of the tires is a defective design and causes them to wear out quickly.

Maclaren Mac 3 three wheeler - This is a true outdoor pushchair - not for those that just want to LOOK active! No good for posing around town but great for rutted paths, steep terrain and the beach.

★★★☆☆

written by Kate Price on 26/06/2005

Maclaren Mac 3 three wheeler - Fairly compact three wheeler when folded, and thus will fit into most car boots. Steering is heavy. Good for walking in the countryside/beach and will cope with most terrains, although the front brake mechanism becomes very clogged with mud and has to be frequently cleared. I found it better to disconnect this when in muddy conditions, prone to veer towards left. Wide rear wheels make it hard to get through a lot of doorways. The mac 3 is not an ideal mode of transport for shopping trips!

Do not buy the Maclaren Mac 3 three wheeler! The tyres wear out excessively quickly due to the very poor design - last set has lasted less then 4 months! I regret having one of these and recommend that you look for a different brand..

★★★☆☆

written by clarrybeen on 19/08/2004

The Maclaren pushchair looks great and is sturdy. Ideal for walks in the great outdoors but cumbersome in town. Comes with a free matching cosytoes and rain cover. However, it is not a pushchair for taking shopping. The rear wheels are just too far apart, making it difficult to negotiate aisles and doorways of smaller shops.
