The Ericsson 868 Is A Solid Old Style Mobile Phone

The Ericsson 868 is a solid old style mobile phone. Easy to use. Dependable. Good audio quality. Let down by poor battery life compared to later phones.. get the bigger amp hour battery instead of the standard 650mAh.

The Ericsson 868 was my first cell phone. It is very reliable and I think that it is excellent for someone who wants simply to do his job. Of course, it hasn't so many features as today's cell phones, but S-868 will never get you down. You can trust it.

i bought one in 1999 for Rp.800.000,- (US$ 90) and i'm still using it as my daily phone.

i just got another one (used) for US$ 25, bloody cheap !

dunno why it's under-rated, it's as strong as goliath, drop it and it's still working, and i didn't try it to just one handset, i've tried it to both phones

ps : i know you guys now won't even think of buying mines' hehehe

if phones were cars, S868 equals to BMW X5 !

I've had the 868 for about 15 months now, during that time, I've dropped it on concrete loads of times, got it soaking wet in the rain, and flung it in the tailpack with lots of spanners etc when I go cycling. Hasn't let me down once, apart from when a battery contact came loose, (just needed tightening) Battery life has been consistent and hasn't got worse over time. The call quality is very good, even in areas with hardly and signal.Yes, it is heavy, but solid, reliable etc

I too have an Ericsson S868 and if it is similar to my GH688 then the battery contact screws had a modification (lengthening). These screws also come loose especially if the vibrate attachment is used. Do not tighten the bottom two screws yourself unless you are very careful as you can pull them right out of the motherboard. If you get a software upgrade be warned that you may lose your rapidly blinking LED feature. Ericsson make the LED rapid blinking feature timeout after one minute to save the battery.

Thank's for the battery comment.

Now mine is working again.

This Phone Came As Part Of A 12 Month Line Advance

This phone came as part of a 12 month line advance deal, and I only chose it because the other choices were crud phones.

I have used it for over 2 years and I really love this handset! I now have smaller and lighter phones but I keep coming back to my good old Ericsson 868.

I guess the main thing that I like is its robustness. This is definitely not a plasticky wonder. You could drop this phone as many times as you like and it will escape unscathed, unlike some other allegedly better phones that I've had.

The ringer is nice and loud and there is a selection of 15 good ringtones including one you can program yourself!

The keys are hard topped plastic and very comfortable to use if you have big hands like me.

I recommend that you buy the slimline battery though, as it makes the phone much more compact and I certainly haven't noticed much deterioration in battery life.

I really like this phone and would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a good solid, reliable mobile.

If mobile phones were cars, then this would be a Volvo!

Nice Phone, Equivalent To The 888 But Without The

Nice phone, equivalent to the 888 but without the IrDA modem. Metal casing and very sturdy. Big display and with good readability under all circumstances.
