Tennessee Williams, The Glass Menagerie

The Glass Menagerie is the most hideously overwritten swelling of a script that has ever passed my eyes.

Tennessee Williams is regarded as one of the greats of American playwright but any writer who includes the line "The Music Swells Tumultuously" would be flattered by the description 'self-indulgent'. His supposedly poetic stage directions read like a rejected script for a soft-core blue movie.

In my opinion the pace of the play resembles a three legged turtle travelling up hill with an extortionate weight on his shell. I challenge anyone to honestly say they were not bored out of their mind whilst enduring this pitiful production. Genius? I think not.
