Outstanding book. Excellent writing style and descriptiveness. Excellent read, probably requires a little more violence for me.

Bret Easton Ellis, The Rules Of Attraction Is A Br

Bret Easton Ellis, The Rules of Attraction is a brilliant, if confusing, piece of fiction. It charts the love lives of a number of students at a private liberal arts university in New England sometime in the 1980s. The tale jumps between the different points of view of the main characters (Lauren, Paul, Sean and Victor) and shows how their different perceptions of situations result in completely different versions of events. Paul thinks Sean is in love with him, although as far as Sean's concerned Paul is some strange guy he sort of knows as Sean is obsessed with Lauren, who is willing to settle for Sean until Victor, her real love, returns from Europe, but Victor doesn't even remember Lauren, who was just another conquest.

It's sometimes hard to follow, and rather complex, but I read this book in about 2 days because it was also really easy to read and quite riveting. Highly recommended.

Oh, and if you're going to watch the film, read the book first....
