“Merecedes CLK 270 CDI, Stylish, classy, and 50mpg!”

★★★★☆

written by telletl on 19/05/2012

This was my boss's car, I'd always said that when he came to p/x it I would match the p/x price that he was offered. And why not, I knew the car's complete history and the level of MB dealer service it had received - he used to take it main dealer for replacement brakelight bulbs! The car looks fantastic from every angle in it's brilliant silver paintwork, and the leather interior makes the miles disappear. I still get a kick from having the car 'hand me' my seat belt, and the way that the front and rear windows do their little dance when a door opens or closes. The car's 5 cylinder engine is as has been said before a little agricultural in the mornings and at traffic lights, but once warm and on the move it's not noticeable, the weight of the engine does make the car a little nose heavy and demands a little respect going into fast bends. The car has the 5 speed auto box and whilst there have been some moans about the car being slow of the line compared with later models both myself and my driving license are more than happy with the cruiser nature of the car. I particularly like the cruise control and it's license saving counterpart in the speed limiter for use in 30/40 mph zones (I currently have 6 points on my license so ensuring I don't pick up any more). Why only 4 stars? The car came with the factory fitted sports suspension, which is a little too low for me, and has the back end a little skittish

Got my silver 270 cdi from a dealer in Edingbough with 35000 miles had it a year and have done nearly the same mileage again by running up and down from Beverley to Portsmouth. Very happy with MPG which is normally between 51 and 54 MPG. I have got the manual 6 speed gear box which I beleive will return a better overall MPG than the auto gear box.Good torque and acceleration you would not think it runs on derv. Very relaxing to drive and so far no complaints apart from tyres seem to wear very quickly. Great car that still looks modern next to a 2010 E class equivalent.

I have had my black 270 CDI for 3 months now and getting 39 mpg combined and 50 mpg on the motorway. Look out for the front driver and passenger windows which are prone to wear. Had my drivers window repaired at a cost of £175 which was not covered under the Mercedes Approved Warranty. Then had a Air Flow sensor replaced which was covered, thus saving me £446. Overall the car is great and is very comfortable with a few extras like heated front seats which are great in the cold weather. The car also looks sleek and sporty and gets noticed by other drivers. If I had one slight niggle it's not that easy to get into the car without scuffing the bottom of the door trim which can lead to dirty marks being left on the trim. For the money £12,000 for a 5 year old car which had done 39,000 miles it's well worth the money compared to the usual Ford, VW options.

A smooth, comfortable, exceptional drive. Effortless long distancer.

Can't think why the Mercedes Benz CLK 270 engine discontinued- it combines torque, flexibility, performance and great economy - averaging 47 mpg without really trying.
