“A tank with style.”

★★★★☆

written by Kiley on 23/01/2014

Bought mine at auction for One owner, 54k miles. Full BMW service history. Fully loaded inc side steps* Needed new front outer cv boots, two front tyres and parking sensor. £8600. Drives like a dream and goes like ** The 3 litre diesel six is as docile or aggressive as your right foot demands. It is silky smooth and willing to perform whatever the conditions. Any Diesel engine/auto combination capable of moving two tons to sixty in less than eight seconds must command high respect, especially when it will return 30 mile/gal average. The engine is very quiet for a diesel and the auto box almost seamless in gear selection. I've no idea why they fit the manual selector mode since who would ever want it. A very useful feature is the down-slope mode which automatically lowers the gearing on slow descents, reducing slide in slippery conditions. Unlike the 2007 face-lift model, with weight-saving changes, this is a very solid machine. Everything is heavy except your heart, when you start driving it! Tyres are expensive @ approx £1000-1200 for a set! *side steps can dirty the back of your legs, when alighting, as they protrude a fair way. So, if you'reŷ looking for a 4X4 tank, with style, for silly money then look no further.

i own a 55 plated 3.o turbo diesel x5. it drives so fast my wife has a 523i and the x5 is much more powerful. my one is a sport exclusive edition which when i bought it on November 28th 2006 it cost me 26,781 pounds in auction. it has leather heated seats and the technology is amazing.i broke down once because my automatic gearbox was stuck in third. but now you could bye one like mine fore around 19-25 grand with full optional extras. but this car is so so so so so so powerful on the m1 i went 60-110 mph only using 60% of the throttle in about 7.5 seconds or maybe 6.5 or 6. the fuel is alright but overall i think i am gonna sell it in about 3 years time ihope x5 owners agree to most things thanks for reading.

“I have owned my BMW X5 3.0 D Sport for 4 and a half...”

written by Jasper on 09/01/2009

I have owned my BMW X5 3.0 D Sport for 4 and a half years now. It was bought second hand for £30k from a BMW franchise dealer on a 52 plate with 23k miles. It now has 90k. Its a quality car and I am happy with it. Ok its depreciated but I aim to keep it. Maintenance costs work out cheaper than my previous Honda Accord car. Once the warranty ran out I took it to a BMW specialist garage. Mine narrowly ranges bewteen 22.4 and 23.3, running fast or slow, heavy or light makes little difference. I have never towed. A set of 4 x recommended bridgestones are around £450 in total. They last about 18 months in my experience.

All in all, I have not messed about in it, Ive used it as an everyday vehicle as well as on long distant holidays. It stands outside all weathers and looks as good as new when cleaned up. I would describe the X5 as good all rounder. The defect / repair costs (as stated) have cost about £2.5k over 4.5 years. The benefits of owning an X5 for me easily outweighs this.

After 3 years it still seems the best car overall we have owned, also fuel consumption overall is very close to manufacturers figures, that can,t be said for many models.
