“Dont know why the bad reviews!”

★★★★☆

written by boden18 on 09/11/2012

We have had a Tesco Visa Credit card for some years now and never had any problem with them. It seemed to be easy to set up (although memory a bit vague), and once you get into a routine of statement date-payment date there really is no complication with it. Plus we manage to add a significant amount to our bounty of Clubcard points every month. Never had any problems with late payments etc and we pay off in full every month. Have had the card locked a couple of times (as mentioned by others) due to seemingly insignificant purchases but this is the only thing I could quibble with and I suppose re card fraud its better to be safe than sorry. A quick phone call has always unlocked it again. I would recommend this credit card to anyone!

But as you have said, they have locked your card a couple of times.. Now consider that they do this just before you put £100 fuel in your car, the card is declined and you can't contact customer services as you get a recorded voice saying to call during office hours. Ahhhh! Not so good then is it!

No issue with their decision to lock my card, but unlocking my card was anything but quick.

1st call: half an hour call waiting hearing "how much they wanted to speak to me", then, when I thought I was through to someone the line just went silent and I had to hang up.

2nd call: on hold for 20 minutes - then was told the department is no longer open and I should call the next day.

I asked whether there was anything unusual going on or whether the call wait times were typical. The operative seemed to think it was business as usual.

“It's been good so far!”

written by aegisuk on 23/08/2012

I've either been lucky with this card so far, or I use it differently from most other people. I've had it for 3 months and I don't really keep a balance on it. I don't rely on direct debits and I haven't had to call customer services yet. So far it's been great. Clubcard points for nothing really as I just use the card to buy things and then make an online payment to it from my bank account. I use mine 2-3 times per week and I'm more than happy with it so far.

“16 months of spending!”

★★★★☆

written by Jack.Warns on 11/08/2012

Just got a 16 month Tesco card and I'm very happy with the product - it's basically a win/win for me. I get to use the card to fix up the house, but I'll also earn clubcard points on everything I spend - great! One thing I would say is that the application progress is a little hard work. Maybe not as bad as you might first think (9 steps of an application form - There's less for a passport!), but it's a nowhere near as straightforward as it has been with other finance products I've got in the last year (my ISA for instance). All that said it is largely a short term annoyance - once you have perceived once you don't need to do it again. All-in-all I'm very chuffed with this card.

“I've had this credit card for just over 3 months now....”

★★★★☆

written by rupal2 on 27/04/2012

I've had this credit card for just over 3 months now. So far it has been like every other credit card I have had. No problems at all. Then again I pay it in full every month, and use it wisely. Applying for the credit card seemed easy enough, just completing an on-line form, where you got your answer of acceptance straight away. The points aspect of it isn't as great as it used to be, but as the saying goes, every little helps. Especially right now. If your thinking of getting this credit card, I would only recommend it to you, if you are able to clear the balance each month, if not, stay clear.

“Card experience with Tesco”

★★★★☆

written by probotesco on 16/01/2012

Card usage is OK. Just don't try to pay what's due online. Transaction goes fine until you reach Visa Verify, when Tesco and Visa do not talk to each other and it all falls apart. Customer service don't want to know and blame the Visa issuing bank. Meanwhile I book holidays and pay off other credit cards without difficulty. Tesco's software at this point is poor.

“so far good”

Tesco clubcard sounds good. As it says, every little helps in the logo. I think this saves a lot for us and I am happy when I receive bonus.

I have had a bonus point clubcard Credit Card for around 9 months now.

It was a bit a pain to setup online side as they needed a password which you had to write in to them after you recieved you card. The web site is OK but could be better.

Customer services is not that great, aside from basic stuff, you have to write in inside of dealing via telephone.

That is a bad comments out the way. Plus side, they dealt with a online transaction quickly and the points have been racking up. About £1,200 average monthly spend out of which £500 is at tesco, I have managed to get £600 money off in vouchers so far in 9 months.

written by redshovel on 04/06/2009

Make most of my purchases these days using a credit or debit card issued by my bank. However I get zero reward on either, so I decided to get a Tesco Credit Card to at least earn something back....be it only a few more club card points. Was expecting a low credit limit to be set after speaking to other people I know who have the card but oddly the limit I was given was very high. Had some trouble changing the PIN number of the card when it first arrived but found customer services easy to access and helpful too. Paper statements arrive with little time to spare until payment is due so you need to act quick to avoid a late payment charge.

I regularly shop in Tesco, so I use their card to get the extra club card points. There was a short payment period when I initially got my card. I rang them as the due date did no coincide with my pay day. They were extremely helpful and moved my due date to one which was a few days after my pay date. Excellent service. I have had no problems to date.

Overall, I have always received good customer service from Tesco. I get Clubcard Points on all my spending and I get email alerts if I go over the amount I specified. I can see my statements and manage my account online.

written by Adrian. on 14/10/2002

I've had my Tesco Credit Card now for a few years. As a 'pay off the bill each month' type of person I can't comment on interest rates (although I think they do 0% for 6 months). Main plus points are customer service - they answer the phones really quickly (no being put on hold with dodgy music). Also they offer the facility to pay the bill on the phone using your delta card. Really handy and saves trips to the bank to use the Bank Giro Credit slip.

The card also gives you ClubCard points each time you use the card. You get 1 point for each £2 spent (works out to 0.5% return). This is especially good if you are a premium clubcard holder, as you quadruple the value of points when buying 'goodies' from their Freetime catalogue.

The only downside?? A gaudy card design which a bright orange flower on it!!
