“Constant breakdowns”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Gandalfthegrey2 on 18/01/2020

Don't, just don't. Had this boiler for 6 years and had just as many repairs, the last one less than 3 weeks ago and it's broken again. Engineers keep exchanging the pump which usually fixes the problem for a couple of months. But really they don't have a clue what's wrong. While it was under warranty this was merely annoying, but now that it is out I'm faced with constant repairs to pay for or replacing the whole thing. Absolutely dreadful boiler.

“Sick and tired of this unit”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MohammadReynolds on 16/09/2016

In May 2013 Purchased a new ecotec 937 on the strong recommendation of an installer. Worst decision I ever made. The main bug bear is that the "constant" hot water is anything but. Fortunately I have British Gas cover but they must be tired of me as a customer - I reckon they have had to attend to call-outs on at least 6-7 occasions and have replaced both PCB's. These are expensive units and if they were a car would be rated at the Lada level. I am so angry and disappointed and it appears that Vaillant do not give a damn. I will never buy another one and advise anyone to avoid like the plague. I am just about to ring British Gas again for a call-out; no hot water.

“Worst Boiler I Have Ever Purchased !!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GazB58 on 02/03/2016

Ok.....Here we go !!..We were recommended this boiler from 2 local plumbing engineering companies who swore by them.... I Swear at it!! After renovating the whole property including new pipes throughout, radiators etc we decided to go with the recommendation. For 10 months the boiler was faultless. After that period we had a pressure switch/ sensor replaced under warranty then we started getting regular pressure fault alerts F75. I duly went back to Valiant who simply turned their backs on the problems and refused further part replacement under warranty. To date we have had to purchase a pressure vessel, pressure valve, another pressure sensor and now I have another fault alert F91. To date we have spent £1300.00 on the boiler purchase and an additional £800.00 on parts and labour and all within 4 years. Vaillant....You should be ashamed of yourselves for for: 1. Manufacturing a product not fit for purpose 2. Useless customer service and back up 3. Terrible customer relationship and the reluctance to take ANY responsibility for such a shocking product. If this one review stops only ten people from purchasing your awful product I will at least have some satisfaction that you have lost some potential customers and revenue but it's not a patch on the distress and hassle it has caused my family not having Hot Water and heating for weeks on end!!! I will copy and paste this to as many sites as possible to stop this product being purchased. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE

“top of range price, bottom of range customer service”

★★☆☆☆

written by Gee2 on 24/02/2015

I've had several problems with my ecotec within 2 yrs of installation. If you ever need Vaillant to come out, the 'service' is non-existent. They only confirm the day they come out, no commitment to am/pm. On the day the engineer calls before 9am to confirm the time. Today, I had a call at 8.40 from the engineer to say he would be arriving between 9am and 1pm. Even tho 9am was only 20 mins later, he declined to be more specific than that. This is the 2nd time they have done this to me within 2 weeks - the 1st appointment ruled out any fault with the boiler, (which is clearly what the engineers are tasked to do), but they were wrong. If you're employed, you won't know whether to take 1/2 day or a whole days' holiday and if you're self employed, you can largely kiss goodbye to a days income. Vaillant claim to be working on this, but its been the same for 2 yrs. They don't care,

had this boiler just over 4 years ,the plastic pipe in the 15ltr storage tank collapsed and ruined the heat exchanger, then the pump went and blow the PCB as well . This far the worst boiler ever , avoid.

“hot water problem”

★☆☆☆☆

written by juliadpk on 12/11/2014

The boiler loses pressure and leaks. Hot water very erratic. The boiler is just under 4 years old and I am waiting to have a new pump installed for the storage system. I have never had a boiler break down before and wish I had not replaced the original. When it works it is great but it is not reliable which is very annoying as I located it in my loft. Fault 81 and 91 seems to be the norm for this boiler.

“Don't buy Vaillant..”

★☆☆☆☆

written by PFollows on 17/12/2012

Overrated, expense, and unreliable. Parts regularly go wrong. This was recommended to me by a Heating Engineer. I wish I'd done my research and not just trusted his recommendation. Now I've done research there are so many people saying "Don't buy Vaillant" go for Worcester Bosch. This includes experienced Heating Engineers who have installed lots of both. From the internet it appears that the fault on my boiler is a very common defect (leaking diverter valve) So common that Vaillant obviously know they sell duds. By doing the hard sell (and it was) to sign up for very expensive extended warranty/servicing they are, in my opinion acting in a disgusting way. Make an unreliable, very expensive product that will cost hundreds to fix then get the yearly job of fixing it for hundreds of pounds. Also only give a 2 year warranty and bingo a right money spinner!!

“Save the hassle - don't buy this boiler!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Macthemouth on 22/10/2012

Two and half years ago I thought I'd go the whole hog, invest in what I thought would be an ultra efficient, ultra reliable new boiler. So after much research I went with the ecotec plus 937. What a mistake that was. It leaked almost straight away, Vaillent blame the fitter, the fitter blames the manufacturer - the customer gets the run around. The Vaillent engineer, when they did eventually come out to take a look was rude, and frankly couldn't be bothered. Fast forward two and a half years later and the boiler has now gone down, the water pump needs completely replacing. Vaillent aren't interested, they just what you to pay out again and again for warranties, service plans blah blah blah. Vaillant are good on marketing, poor on quality and after sales. Next time I'll be going with Worcester Bosch, I have nothing positive to say about the Vaillent experience at all.

“probably one of the most unreliable boilers on the market ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by gasman on 10/03/2012

As a gas installer that takes a lot of pride in his work and a firm believer in you get what you pay for we decided to move away from worcester bosch in 2005.Fitting only vaillant products selling them to all the customers that contacted us for replacement boilers everything seemed fine for the first 18 months or so but the gradually the phone started to ring with complaints for leaking boilers boilers noisy boilers not working. My brother looked at the worcester boiler and thought that as the vaillant ahd a stainless steel heat exchanger in it that this would be the boiler that would last the longest and give us no problems from a recall point of view how wrong he was !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can not stress enough to people if you are spending out on a new appliance WORCESTER BOSCH is the only boiler to have installed. Vaillant try to use scare customers and make them believe that the installer has not done his job properly to then get them out of honouring the warranty. Two examples of this are as follows one job was where I installed a complete new system removing a warm air system then installing a Vaillant 937 chemically treating the system with sentinel x 300 new system debris remover and then adding sentinel x 100 inhibitor.A day after the 2 year warranty ran out I managed to get Vaillant to come out he proceeded to drain some water out of the boiler into a drinks bottle a tell my customer that the water was contaminated. So the lady was then scared to drink the water from her taps. The boiler was repaired and she was happy but this bottle of water thing soon became a regular occurance no matter what the fault vaillant were trying to say that systems we sludged up and needed power flushing and telling my customers that they had no warranty and the repair would cost £300. Another job again a full new system warm air out no problems for just over 2 years then the rubber hoses leaked in the boiler but this customer had taken out extended boiler cover through vaillant they replaced the leaking pipes late on one day but there was another fault code displayed I think again F75 instead of fixing the fault as it was now 6 o clock the engineer packed up his tools leaving a bottle of clean yellowish water with the chap. telling him it needed cleaning out THE SYSTEM WAS BRAND NEW A FLUSHED CORRECTLY FROM INSTALLATION THE POINT IS THAT THE DISINTEGRATING RUBBER HOSES WERE BLOCKING THE RETURN SENSOR CAUSING THE F 75 FAULT .That night I spent 1 hour on the phone to the local vaillant sales rep telling him that I couldnt believe that as the customer was paying £ 15 a month cover how could this happen any way ten o clock that night I m the idiot removing the sensor cleaning it out getting the boiler working defending vaillant telling the customer they are the best boilers on the market. Vaillant then came out replaced the sensor happy days and no power flush required. In 5 years we fitted 300 vaillants and have been recalled to at least 80 % of them the one in my house has had a new heat exchanger under warranty the one in my daughters house has had 4 in warranty visits leaving them with no htg or hot water on each occasion. But it has now broken down again out of warranty hence my review from a voice that knows dont buy this appliance. PLUMBERS ONLY RECOMMEND THESE AS THEY GET A LARGE CASH REBATE EVERY BOILER THEY FIT. WORCESTER GIVE NOTHING TO THE INSTALLER ONLY PEACE OF MIND THAT THE PRODUCT IS RELIABLE. IN TWO YEARS I HAVE INSTALLED 180 BOILERS 2 FAULTS WORCESTER OUT TO ONE ON THE DAY TO A PENSIONER WHEN THE SNOW WAS ON THE GROUND AND THE NEXT DAY TO THE OTHER BOTH FAULTS DIAGNOSED QUICKLY AND REPAIRED ON THE FIRST VISIT A STICKING DIVERTOR VALVE REPLACED AND A FAN UNIT REPLACED ON THE OTHER CAN NOT PRAISE WORCESTER ENOUGH I WOULD NT FIT A VAILLANT IN MY SHED SORRY. TOP MONEY FOR AN INFERIOR PRODUCT FILLED WITH CHEAP COMPONENTS THAT DOES NOT LIVE UP TO THE HYPE

I can't believe I'm reading these reviews. I was recommended this boiler by a plumber who must have known how problematic these things are. We've had nothing but problems. From the comment above he probably got money from Vaillant for the sale!

We got a leak on Friday morning, I couldn't get through to Vaillant for the whole of the day on ANY number shown on the Vaillant Website. I didn't get to speak to a single human being. I left the phone ringing for ages, tried redialing, tried other departments, head office....not a single phone answered in twenty four hours!!!! I'm sat here now on a Saturday with buckets under the boiler. They claim they are available 7 days a week, 364 days a year. UNTRUE.

We've had various problems in each winter since we've had it. Just at the time when it's cold and all the plumbers are off fixing all the other Vaillant Boilers!!!

Your best bet is to contact your local plumbers merchant ask for the Vaillant reps telephone number then threaten them with watch dog them see how quickly they respond

If your boiler was leaking I would suggest that you call the engineer who installed it. Unless its a leaking component within the boiler, a leak is the fault/ responsibility of the engineer who installed it.

I stand by Vaillant 100%, never had a problem with their aftersales service. On the rare occasions that the boiler has had a fault, they were quick to respond and did not try to get out of repairing it by blaming the installer...but then again my boilers are installed properly so why would they.

I feel Vaillant are being given a bad reputation for things that are not anything to do with them, by unrealistic people.

I have been a qualified engineer for nearly 20 years.I remember years ago Vaillant used to have an advert in the trade magazines with a caricature plumber saying good bye to his customer and newly installed boiler with the text saying something along the lines of I will never see that customer again because the boilers were fantastic and just didn't break down and I'm not disputing the reliability of older models.
But as a manufacturer they failed to address a blatant design fault and to leave installers to face the music with dissatisfied customers was the wrong way of dealing with it.
As Vaillant did very little to help when I called them they have forever lost me as a customer.
When I quote people now for new boilers I relay all of my bad experiences with there customer service department and the engineers that went out to repair the boilers.
I may have mentioned it in my original post I had two customers in tears when the Vaillant engineer left them a bottle of yellowish system water telling them the water was contaminated.
The manufacturers get out jail free card !!
Both jobs were complete new systems both flushed with sentinel X300 then the correct amount of sentinel X100 added.
We as a small family business take great pride in our work and we install as per the book.
As I said before everything in my original post is factually correct.
Unfortunately if you speak to installers that still fit Vaillant you will have everything I have said substantiated.
They still fit them because of the kick backs through contract support or rebates.
If you are unaware of this then your not hitting the figures.

Ghslondon's Response to gasman's Review

I know it has been a couple of years since this review was put online but I feel like I need to put a few things right. I am a gas installer, have been for years, have always worked for independent installation firms untill I started my own company. In the early days of my career I was on a social housing contract, 5 years all in all, the only boiler that we could install on that contract was the Vaillant ecotec plus 831. The contract was to install 5 new heating systems (boiler, rads and pipework) per week. So as you can imagine after 5 years on that contract I have I installed hundreds of Vaillant boilers. Since then i have contracted to various companies as well as private clients. I have fitted most types of boilers now and can say with complete unbiased honesty, Vaillant are an amazing manufacturer who have produced some of the best boilers on the market. For you to say you have been recalled to 80% of the Vaillants you installed would make me wonder how good an installer you are! As I said, wether installed by me or a member of my team I have been involved in close to 1000 Vaillant installations and have been recalled to well under 10% of them. You are clearly doing something wrong. I can also tell you that I have never been given cash by Vaillant for installing their boilers so this is clearly a lie! I actually doubt that you have installed anywhere near as many Vaillants as you say... Are you sure you're not a Worcester rep?

“Vaillant Really Dissapointed Me ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ItalyinUK on 02/02/2012

I entered my new house having a phenomenal experience with Vaillant in another country and insisted on having this boiler installed. Less than two years in it was not able to maintain steady pressure and was leaking all over the place. £750 pounds later I wrote to Vaillant suggesting that perhaps this was not really the type of service I should expect from such a superior product (~50% of the new purchase price in repair bills less than two years after installation) but they replied that they felt it was perfectly acceptable and since the installer hadn't told me to get a service in the first year, there was no two year warranty. 10 months later and the symptoms are all returning again. I certainly won't make this mistake again and you should avoid making it the first time.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Talk about car salesmen. Vaillant must be full of ex-car salesmen as they give you a whole load of hype and no action.
Never ever will I get a Vaillant boiler again and I will do my best to inform others of the total lack of customer care you can expect if you go down the Vaillant route.

“Run Far Run fast!!!, Vaillant Ecotec plus 937 ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/03/2011

Run Far Run fast!!!, Vaillant Ecotec plus 937
Firstly the pump blew up after being installed from new after 15 months, leaking all over the place with Central Heating fluid.
Warranty is not 2 yrs its a conditional 2 yrs( boiler must be serviced within first year for the second year of the warranty to be valid, they like to keep you in the dark about that), most other boiler manufacturers offer at least 5yrs warranty as standard, hmm (Vaillant must not have much confidence in the Quality of their own product to offer such a low warranty period).
Secondly Vaillant telephone support didnt really seem to care either, 3 days to get an engineer out to look at the bolier and Im without central heating or hot water in the meantime!!!.
Telephone support, even though the offices are closed you ring them on an 0870 number and they say all our operators are busy at present!!!(there is nobody there, they are sucking me dry in telephone charges, even though the staff arent there!!).
In the end their engineer never turned up, so I had to pay out for an engineer myself plus a new pump!!.

hi, you must be the only one with a poor review on this brand, i've been through a lot of reviews and from what i can tell problems arise due to poor installation - perhaps try another experienced fitter - not cheap though!

Ours set fire to the side of the house and Vaillant deny it's their fault even though it was known to have a faulty seal.
