we had the largest campervan.only 11l on 100km :O. And the staff was very friendly and helpful. You could see that it was not very new, but everything worked alright and we did not had any problems with the car. we just was not that happy that we had to refill the gas, because they do not provide full gas bottles. But beside that it was a great bargain and we enjoyed our month here in New Zealand.

If you are looking for Lucky van it means that you are on a budget. If you really look for budget camper I would recommend Lucky. Van are basic, but work fine. Note that Lucky have 2 types of Toyota Hiace, older and a little bit newer, try to ask enquire for the new ones. Our camper was 16 years old and was actually the oldest car we ever drove but it was ok and comfy enough. The second battery is for internal light and fridge only, you will not get 240V if you are not connected to the external power. Also note that you will have to pay extra diesel tax for every km you made, but on the other side diesel is half the price of petrol in NZ. We liked the staff and service both in Christchurch and Auckland. They are very friendly and helpful. Next time I'll come to NZ I will definitely rent a Lucky camper again.

We decided to choose Lucky Rookie, and we are happy about our choice, after all. Car, even if it was quite old (97-99 Toyota Estima), was really ok, not deamon of speed, but managed all those crazy New Zealand hills and mountains :) And using (at least for us) a bit less fuel than descripted - that was a nice surprise. I believe this was good value for its price (lowest we found) for New Zealand campervans. Interior, exactly as in description, required cooking staff delivered. Everything had its age, but nothing rusted. Only thing that puts a shadow on this time was that we got nearly empty gas bottle - and we were not told that. After few minutes gas went off - and we were in the middle of nowhere with no chance to get hot dinner - and it was most rainy evening of our travel, and quite cold... So - despite what is said in their website - gas bottle can be not even enough for one dinner... But apart from this, we are quite happy with this choice, and if you are not looking for luxury you absolutely can choose Lucky :)

We traveled with our Rover for three weeks. The camper was in good order, everything was working. Just the music boxes were very bad in the back. We had a great time, although we do not had so much space with four people and all our stuff !

Lucky car rentals were nice and cheap and the car did good job. The staff were really helpful. Unfortunately the sat nav hadn't been updated so we had to use our phones for directions. Also you have to pay for airport transfers. Other than that not bad.

Reasonable price for a good size van. Everything you need to survive is in there. More of 3000km traveling without any problem. Perfect for 2 people, doesn't matter if couple or seperate. There is enough room for one person to sleep up under the roof. The mattress could be a bit thicker for the upper bed. And there was a seal missing on the passenger seat down where the feet are. While driving in the evenings it got a bit cold on my feet. But other than that we were pretty happy with our 18 days rental.

Our van was practical and reliable. Automatics are slow but they get you there in the end, it's all about having enough space to put things and enjoying the ride! The staff are friendly and helpful. For the price, the van was great, it's got everything you need, although basic, but if you are not fussy then this is the best choice for affordable van rental that we could find in New Zealand. Don't forget about the Diesel surcharge at the end of the trip though! We had a great time, New Zealand is awesome to explore by van!

Great experience during our stay in NZ driving the Luckie Roadie. (hniot: The lucky roadie is excellent though you're only two persons as you may wonna use the top bed as storage). We had a breakdown in Milford and we were emmidatly picked up and Lucky even payed the accomdation on the campside we stayed at that night. We had small issues with transfer, noise in the cabin and the wind screen but the service was absolutely brilliant. All in all we'd recommend anyone to use Lucky Rentals! :)

Probably don't want to say this but before I arrived to pick up our van, the kind staff had already upgraded our vehicle. It was easy to drive, reasonably economical and well equipped. Got us around the north Island with minimal fuss. My wife wasn't too stoked that there were no proper wine glasses so we stopped at The Warehouse and bought 4 for 5 bucks no dramas. The staff was very helpful and all costs were explained to us. I would definitely recommend a trip to New Zealand and also using Lucky Car Rentals.

We rented the chepest Toyota van for 2 people. Very basic and old, but it works ok. The quality/price is ok.

We had a amazing time with our Campervan named "Berta", she was like a sweet home for us. And we had a safe journey for six weeks on the South Island. With "Berta" everything was fine and we had no damage, or any problems with the service. The service by Lucky Rentals always helped us so that we really enjoyed our trip all the time. Very friendly staff and good advices. Just a little bit expensive, but that's the business :) Thank you very much, we had such a wonderful time!!!

Lucky was very accommodating - we added 10 days to our reserved campervan when we picked it up, with no problem! That makes life easy - thanks. Our 5618 km drive around New Zealand was simple and we were reassured by the Lucky Rentals Road Service Helpline, which we did not need after all! The transfer to the airport at the end of our trip was very convenient and appreciated. Ta!

the overall experience was good, good to travel around in the camper van. we hired a GPS, the first one was defaulted so we went back and we got another one. the second GPS was not updated and led us the wrong ways a few times. it would be good if we had more information about freedom campsites. the car was old and chewed a lot of petrol so not fuel economical.

The staff were very kind and helpful when we first arrived, and we got our car and everything else fixed really quickly. The campervan we got (lucky rookie for two ppl) was quite old, and could use some fixing up. The doors and locks were a little bit scary to deal with, we were afraid of breaking something. Especially the keys!! We liked that we got free chairs to go with it (an offer included with getting the 'sure thing' insurance) although the table was a pain considering its impractical size and also quality. We would also have liked some more information regarding sleeping in the van, like how to best ventilate and how cold its gets, mosquitoes, etc. However, considering the amount of money we spent overall we thought it was well worth using lucky rentals.

The best way to explore New Zealand, on your own and with the best prices!!! Lucky rentals team were also very friendly to us and helped us any time we needed it. We got a camper van upgrade for free :) We definitely recommend it.

We found this company online. Shopping for a car during Christmas & New Year season, this company was offering a car at a very decent rate. They picked us up and dropped us at the airport. Friendly service, we had to wait a bit during pickup (car was getting serviced)but staff was nice enough to throw a few freebies. Car was a bit old and had better days but OK for what we paid for. Got us there!

Not the newest models of campervans, but you have everything you need. Clever interior, well equipped kitchen. Two separate batteries helped us a lot. Definitely a good choice.
