“To rattely not a nice push ”

written by Bem89 on 25/03/2014

We imported the us version of the quinny zapp xtra with four wheels... Do we wish we hadn't .. Yes! After having the uk 3 wheel quinny zapp wich we found tipped easily and the stupid pole in the way of the basket ( very annoying ) with the basket being small any way the bar restricted use of basket ... It made an awful rattling noise when pushed ( very off putting ) couldn't have a conversation over the sheer racket it made ...the seat was an awkward shape for the boot and when used rear facing gave me very little space for my legs ...With this we thought the us 4 wheel would be the better option .. We were wrong .. It to makes an awful rattling noise with the front wheels... The basket although easier to store things in with out the pole in the way access to the the basket is terrible ( as with the 3 wheel version ) the smaller seat was about the only good thing about the 4 wheel version .. And of course having 4 wheels was far more sturdy ... over all I have been survierly gutted with both purchases of the quinny zapp xtra and wish I had kept my buzz ... Both Zapps feel cheap and awful to push for the price I think they are terrible I would only recommend either a zapp 4 or 3 wheel to someone who needs a small pram for short comutes

“Not That Great.”

★★★☆☆

written by K.DMeine on 14/11/2011

I got the Quinny Zapp Xtra because I wanted a Quinny and they have the right handle height for me, as I am only a mere 5'2" tall. I had the Xtra for 3 days then sold it on. Why? As I normally read reviews before buying I didn't this time round, and if I did would have saved me some money. The front wheel on the Quinny Xtra was rattly and loud, it was like you were pushing a trolley around rather than a pushchair. This put me off big time, I just could not get used to the sound. It bothered my 2 yr old as well as she could not sleep, and not to mention the looks you get when pushing it about the streets.... I questioned this with Quinny and they said that they have had no feedback on the noisy front wheel ... Yeah and I am supposed to believe that? Nope.I Googled the problem and I found 5-6 people complaining of the same issue and having to sell their Quinny's on. If it was not for the wheel issue, then I would have kept it on, as it is a great nifty little pushchair. My little one could sit comfy in it and still be nosey. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone to be honest. Sad really.

“Being a QuinnyCaster is a great honour and also very...”

★★★★★

written by Sriches on 31/12/2010

Being a QuinnyCaster is a great honour and also very flattering when you find you are one of 25 to be chosen out of over 3,000 applicants.
For the past 3 months the QuinnyCasters have been putting their pushchairs through vigorous road tests, whether a QC with a baby who can attach a Maxi Cosi infant carrier to the Zapp Xtra chassis or a QC with an older child who could easily sit in the Zapp Xtra seat.

I chose Rebel Red, simply for the fact we had a red Quinny Buzz 3 when Olivia was a baby and wanted to continue this tradition (plus I personally find it more suitable for girls!)

Our pushchair arrived several days after the announcement of the QuinnyCasters, just in time for us to take it on holiday to Disneyland Paris. Immediately we were able to give the pram a good road test and that is exactly what we did! We pounded the pavement for miles!!

Upon receiving the big Quinny even though I was very excited, I took my time in opening in order to complete the 1st assignment by QuinnyCasters HQ - To record the grand task of unpacking our Quinny. As my husband was working away I had the privilege of putting the Quinny Zapp Xtra together (with the help of Liv and Honey the dog!) and actually found it very easy to assemble. As we used the Quinny Buzz 3 when Olivia was a baby, we are fully aware of how easy Quinny prams/pushchairs are to piece together.

I was a little disheartened that the Zapp Xtra has a separate chassis and seat. Being so used to a pram that you can easily fold in half with one finger, I knew this would take some getting used to!

We are very lucky to have a large car, which we travelled to Disneyland Paris and and for this we had no problem at all storing the pushchair in the car and did not have to fight for space. I have to admit, since the trip I have actually stored the Zapp Xtra in the boot of a smaller car and could easily fit my shopping (and my friend's) alongside the pram. So my initial predictions of the pushchair taking up valuable boot space were proved incorrect, along with my prediction of the pushchair being hard to use due to having to separate to fold down.

I found that Liv slept so well when wheeling her around Disneyland Paris even with all the hustle and bustle and I put this down to the fact the Zapp Xtra can fully recline. In all there are 3 seating positions, I preferred the inbetween recline position as Liv was very comfortable and was able to stretch out. The seat material is very comfy and allows your child to sit/sleep happily.

Three months down the line I am able to whip the pram together and take it apart with the greatest of ease and I am sure I get quicker each time! In fact when I had to use my old pushchair, it took me a while to remember how to put that one down! The Zapp Xtra really has grown on me!

Several family members have used the pushchair and have all commented on how easy the Zapp Xtra is to push ( I have always found 3 wheelers to be very easy to use). The Xtra has the option of a fixed position front wheel or the option of what I call "go with the flow" or a free wheel. A great feature especially when required to use this on different terrains. At 5 ft 9' I have no problem with the height of the handles however the option to extend the handles further would be a great function especially for taller people.

Shopping... now what woman does not love shopping???! Although we are advised not to hang bags from the handles as it could possibly contribute to the pushchair tipping, I was extremely naughty and used the separate handles to hang (a lot) of Christmas shopping! As I had no intention of letting go of the pushchair I managed to get away with this and did not feel any hint of tipping. The reason I had to hand my bags on the handles was due to the fact the shopping basket is not very big and certainly can not cope with more than 2 large bags. Though this is a negative, it is bearable, at the end of the day there is no scope for how large the basket could be and the size is perfect for the pram, any larger and the pushchair dimensions would have to change.

Dealing with the weather... well we have used the Quinny Zapp Xtra in sunshine, rain, snow and ice. This pushchair is fully equip to deal with all climates with great ease. The hood really amazed me with how far it folded out, it completely covered the top half of the pram and Liv's face, fantastic for when she is asleep and also meant I could save money by not investing in a parasol!
The Zapp Xtra comes complete with a raincover, unfortunately this is my ultimate negative. Caught in a huge downpour I struggled for at least 5 minutes to keep the cover in place. It just did not seem to fit around both handles and appeared slightly too small. I had to run back to the car whilst holding the raincover in place on the handles.

10/10 to Quinny for listening to feedback on the original Quinny Zapp and taking on board parental feedback. All the features most people look for in a pushchair such as reclining, parent facing and lightweight have been combined with the original Zapp. I hope the feedback in this review will help Quinny with any future pushchairs.

The Plus Points to the Quinny Zapp Xtra...

* Can be used forward or parent facing.
* Adaptable - The chassis can be used with the Maxi Cosi Infant carrier (fantastic if you do not want to spend a lot on a travel system - the pushchair is suitable to aged 4 years.)
* The hood is the best I have ever seen on a pram.
* The fact that it can recline to enable your child to sleep well when out and about.
* So easy to manoeuvre (a plus point when navigating the sales!)
* Actually easier to assemble than first thought.
* Quinny pushchairs stand the test of time and never look old.
* Very easy to store
* Can use the footmuff from Buzz 3 with the Zapp Xtra! :O)

The unfortunate Down Sides to the Quinny Zapp Xtra...

* The raincover (as mentioned above) does not seem to fit properly, slightly too small.
* Quite a lot of packaging to unpack - could annoy very environmentally friendly people!

As you can see in the past 3 months I have only managed to find 2 negatives and they really are only very trivial matters. So all in all I have found the Quinny Zapp Xtra a dream to use as a parent and am happy knowing that my most precious daughter is very comfortable and happy using the pushchair!

“The Quinny Zapp Xtra is really lightweight which is...”

★★★★★

written by EllieA on 31/12/2010

The Quinny Zapp Xtra is really lightweight which is great when you have to get it in and out of the car a lot and to push it is very easy.

It looks really good too and can be used both parent facing and outward facing which is perfect as your child gets older.

Can be used from birth with the Maxi Cosi car seat or the seat unit included. Great for popping to the shops with as very easy to maneuvre (as long as you have both hands free).

Pros: Lightweight and easy to push, looks really good and is suitable from birth.

Cons: Two part system means you have to take apart to get in and out of car. Handle hight is quite low which is not great for taller parents. Not much storage space in the basket. Not very easy to steer with one hand.

“We've been using the Quinny Zapp Xtra for the last...”

★★★☆☆

written by jennykearney on 26/12/2010

We've been using the Quinny Zapp Xtra for the last couple of months and find it easy to use around town and on public transport. It can be used as a forward or rear facing stroller which also reclines and is suitable from birth. The Zapp Xtra is sold with car seat adapters for all Maxi-Cosi infant seats, a hood and rain cover and the (optional) Zapp basket.

My son loves the Quinny Zapp Xtra and finds it very comfortable and sleeps soundly in it. We always have the seat rear-facing but I like the option of having it forward-facing when he's older. Over the colder months we have found the foot muff an essential extra although it is pricey.

It's great for daily use although it's ability to carry much shopping is limited. Due to its lightweight nature you can't hang shopping from the handlebars and the shopping bag can only carry a maximum of 5kg.

“The Quinny Zapp Xtra came into my life in September,...”

★★★★☆

written by MummyMatters on 17/12/2010

The Quinny Zapp Xtra came into my life in September, after the birth of my son. It was easy to assemble. It is very light on the steering and has a great turning curve; the front double wheel spins 360 degrees, perfect for tight spaces. In shops and on smooth surfaces the pushchair is a super smooth ride but on cobbles and paving stones the wheels can sound a little noisy however suspension on all wheels ensures a comfortable ride. Five point safety harness gives you peace of mind and padded shoulder straps add to the comfort for the occupant. There are three forward facing recline positions and 2 parent facing recline positions, changing position with just one hand which is brilliant. My favourite feature is the hood which pulls forward far enough to shade baby from bright lights and rain and there is a further flap which can be pulled down to extend the hood further. The window around the edge of the hood enables you to peek at your little one without having to peer around the side. Adaptors included enable you to attach a Maxi-Cosi infant Car seat. It has a shopping basket underneath - though you won't get lots in it. Chassis folds into a small rectangular shape which can be carried with one hand and will fit into any car boot. On the downside I keep hitting my shins on the seat frame when in parent facing reclined position and you can't hang your changing bag on the handles and there isn't much room to store it underneath either due to chassis design.
