Summary

Howdens Lamona LMA300 Reviews

Howdens have a great reputation as Kitchen Designers and suppliers, but…

Howdens is the UK’s No. 1 Trade Kitchen supplier and was awarded the Which Best Buy in 2021 for their kitchen cabinets. And Howdens regularly receives over 80% 5-star reviews for its design, service and installation across its over 700 depots in the UK and Europe.

The Howdens brand is let down by the Lamona range of appliances

While the quality of their fridges, freezers, washing machines and dishwashers have undeniably improved, (does anyone remember the Diplomat brand?) the Lamona brand is at the lower end of the price/quality/reliability chart. And because they are not sold individually or at retail (but only as part of the ‘kitchen’ via a builder) comparing these products is difficult.

What is the Lamona range?

Lamona is a brand of white goods appliances manufactured and provided by Howdens Joinery as its own brand, via the builders who install their kitchens. Originally they were manufactured and sold as part of MFI back in the day. AEG makes their fridges and freezers today in Germany. They come with a 3-year warranty.

What are the common complaints about the Lamona Ovens?

With words like ‘nightmare’ and ‘cheap useless rubbish’ our reviewers are disappointed by Lamona's white goods. Of the oven, they complained of noisy fans and bad seals and poor temperature management and defective fuses. The 67 reviews are most scathing about poor durability, service and Value for money. What is clear is that Howden’s choice to supply this problematic brand is letting down an otherwise impressive Kitchen design and supply business. Time to switch manufacturers we think.

I bought a Lamona double fan oven LAM4601 in September 2013.Had to have fan repaired in May 2015 it now needs attention again. Are the fans on these ovens prone to faults as both of these have failed under the 2 year guarantee period. I hope this will be repaired again under guarantee as I have no intention on paying for another fan for it to fail again within 2 years

I have a Lamona S/S single fan oven, LMA 3400, in my brand new Howdens kitchen, and now have a second date (but not until March 2nd) for an engineer to call to check why it is not heating properly. (The first appointment was cancelled at 12.00pm on the day he was due) I was finding that food was not cooking or browning properly, so purchased an oven thermometer which confirmed my suspicions that the oven is taking ages to heat up, and is operating at between 30 and 45 degrees below the set temperature. My question today is:-- Can I return this appliance right now, and have my money back? After reading reviews from other people who have bought this appliance, I really do not wish to have to keep trying to get someone to look at it, only to find, (as many other customers appear to have), that I wish I had done more research and bought a different product to start with.

I sympathise totally with you. I bought a Howdens kitchen (which is good) and bought all the appliances with it (which are terrible) Howdens should be ashamed to be selling such second rate appliances with their kitchens. I found out too late, also, that I should have done my homework and stayed well clear of the white goods they peddle with their units. I had nothing but trouble with my oven (including the common problem of the glass shattering). I had never been happy with the oven, and pies and cakes just didn't cook properly at all. Eventually I had enough and bought a replacement ( as it was after the years guarantee) and I have had no trouble with my new one (needless to say - NOT a Lamona one) I also had to replace the washing machine just after the year. To answer your question though, is it still within the year's guarantee? They have to fix it by law, but of course that still leaves you with an inferior product but you may get a few more months out of it. Replacement ovens are not too expensive and would certainly give you peace of mind. Good luck!

We have a Lamona oven fitted in a Howdens kitchen. We thought the door seal had gone and so replaced it. Still heat was escaping from the side of the door, so much that the veneer on the cupboard doors of the cooker housing have "melted". What should I do? Don't buy!

Our Lamona oven is tripping our electrics roughly about 20-30 mins after the oven is switched off its 15 months old and we have had 5 engineers out. One suggested it was our electrics and we got the cable rewired and it still tripped. The 2nd visit suggested it was the grill element and when the 3rd guy came out, he brought the oven element in error and on the 4th visit the engineer never brought any elements and said it’s not the element and could be the fan switch which was replaced on the 5th visit and is still tripping my electrics. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Lamona LMA300 is not a very good oven. It does not heat proper the door is sealed and I can not clean the inner glass. I got in touch with Howdens of Aberdeen and ask if I could buy a door that the inner glass can be removed to clean.   The dirty door spoils the look of my kitchen I have to put a dish cloth over it. I payed a lot of money for this kitchen so do you know if I can replace the door or replace the oven?

I certainly wouldn't think about spending more money on this oven. I had a Lamona oven which came with our Howden's kitchen and had nothing but bother with it (including the glass door shattering - a common fault apparently) Howden's charge completely over the top for any additional work to their electrical appliances which are out of guarantee. I suggest you do what I did - cut your losses and buy a replacement oven. I have just bought a Zanussi double oven from Curry's for under £400 and it is great!! Good luck!

I think you should cut your losses, get rid of your Lamona oven and buy a decent one. My Lamona oven was barely out of guarantee when it went wrong and could not be repaired. Howdens offered me no help or compensation. I was, and still remain, angry about this. I bought a Neff oven, which was expensive but is very good.

I can't help - I had a different problem with my oven, and just assume that Lamona are not well made and are not hardy.
Report this content dudberg Written on: 28/04/2014
Exactly the same happened to me. Lamona ovens are useless (see other reviews)In fact all Lamona products are poor, I speak from experience! Cut your losses and do what I did - go out an buy a decent replacement oven. It is not worth spending more money to fix this and Howdens charge ridiculous amounts to fix their electrical items that are out of guarantee. Howden units are great but they should be ashamed of themselves for including inferior electrical items with their kitchens. For that reason, I would never recommend them to anybody.
