“Car Rental - complete sham”

★☆☆☆☆

written by sinclad on 24/07/2023

We rented a car in Turkey through Enjoy Travel only to find out they had canceled the arrangement without any notification. This left us high and dry in a foreign country. According to Enjoy Travel, when I sent an email confirming my flight time had not changed and to seek directions on how to pick up the car, they took this as a change and proceeded to cancel things. They said they sent an email but I have no such email. Interestingly, they kept my initial deposit even after canceling and would not refund. I've had to get my credit card provider to refund. It's an absolute disgrace the way they operate and an all too familiar story when you look on the web there are 100s of others who have had the same issue. They take your deposit and cancel if you send an email of any sort.

“Worst Car Hire Experience Ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by CharlotteIAnson on 30/04/2023

Arranged car pick up for 00:15 on 17 March. Arrived at Drivalia a few minutes early to collect car to be advised that they had not received our booking from Enjoy Travel and they had no car for us! We were then advised to come back at 6am in the morning (6 hours later!) as they were receiving a delivery of cars and would have a car for us then. Went back to the Drivalia office at 6am and it was closed. (opening hours advised were 06:00-00:30). Tried ringing office number and Emergency mobile telephone number repeatedly, but no answer. Waited outside the office until someone finally bothered to turn up at 7am before we could get a car. Absolutely disgusted that had to wait 8 hours in the airport (we landed at 11pm). I have written to EnjoyTravel and they advised I did not arrive before office closed at 00:30. Despite the fact I advised them I was in the office before 00:15. CCTV will prove that. I emailed Enjoy Travel again on 21st April asking for a refund, but they have not bothered to reply. Avoid at all costs, cost almost £100 for a car for 26 hours. Not at all impressed.

written by Lysy on 13/01/2023

We rent a car, in the offer was a unlimited mileage wich was one of our main factors to rent a car, however on the day when we picked up the car the milage was limited up to 400 miles!!!!!! Obviously we aim to resolve the dispute staraigh after however without success. In addition a lot of extra payments wich aren't mantioned when you picked up the car. Not recommended at all!!!!

“I booked almost four months in advanced, then...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 186Bell on 05/12/2022

I booked almost four months in advanced, then cancelled within 48 hours. I had their “Cancellation Protection 48” option selected and paid together with all other booking charges. According to their website, this option is $124.60 for the vehicle I had selected (Toyota Highlander), and represents the full and only charge / amount in case of cancellation. Instead, they charged me NZD246.12 ($196.71 at time of writing). This is a significant difference they refuse to explain, let alone refund. My advice to others: Avoid at all cost!

“Do Not Use ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Evan1950 on 11/11/2022

I want to warn other potential customers to stay away from Enjoy Travel. They aren't transparent about their policies and this could cost you money. They don't disclose important things for example, you can't collect the car rental with the debit card you made the booking with. You must have a credit card, this isn't really mentioned anywhere and they don't tell you this before booking. It leads me to believe there may be other things that they don't mention on purpose. They have kept a lot of money in an unfair matter and refuse to give it back. So be very careful and don't book with them! Unless you don't mind losing money to these people!!

“Refused car when trying to collect!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MrsMcLachlan on 13/12/2021

We are a company that were trying to hire a car for a staff member while their car was in the garage. When we went with a Company credit card, they would not release the car as it was not in the drivers name!! I have tried to get a refund & have been told that those are in the terms & conditions, even though the website says what i have copied & pasted below!! Free Cancellation Up Until The Time Of Collection When You Pay In Full Online No car rented, no refund given & no discussion on even an admin charge. Charged in full for nothing!!

“Cancellation and poor communication system (not reachable)”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Marco90 on 05/12/2021

Avoid this company. This company is based in England so if you are in Australia, contacting them it will be impossible. I booked a car but for some reason they couldn’t provide me what I need. I tried to cancel my booking 48 hs before the pick up time by calling the numbers they provide you on website, but unfortunately it was impossible! Long story short, I lost my money without even use the car and without having an understanding why that happened. They answer your emails after 3-4 days. The chat and call line is always off. Please use a proper website or company who can support you for any issues and understand your needs and wants.

“Avoid”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BeataKrawczyk123 on 22/10/2021

Avoid. Thay have not informed us in time that we must present an additional credit card when picking up the car. Upon arrival at the airport we were denied the car. It appears that we are not the only ones to experience this. We were told this is common issue with this agency. £250 lost.

“Easy booking, loads of options”

★★★★★

written by Fisher371 on 02/08/2021

We've used EnjoyTravel before and not had any problems, we had a booking from last year we needed to change, no problems. They were helpful and made everythign straight forward. Big thumbs up, especially when you hear there's companies out there charging fees for changing a booking (!!) when we've ALL been through such difficult times.

“So, it turns out that to get their best rental rates...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Cal221 on 17/11/2020

So, it turns out that to get their best rental rates you need to agree to a $2,000 hold on an in-country credit card. If you don't there is no way to get insurance at a reasonable rate and b/c it's buried in their 5 page fine print contract, you get no refund. It DOES NOT MATTER if the car rental firm itself does or does not invoice Enjoy--I checked and mine confirmed that they did not. Enjoy said it didn't matter and that I was not entitled to even a % refund. At the end of the day you can only save $$ with Enjoy if you have a significant safe line of credit easily to hand.

“Never eve in my life I will recommend someone use this...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Gleb12345 on 28/10/2020

Never eve in my life I will recommend someone use this company. They will take your money, they won’t pay to rental company and you won’t get any refund. It was partly my fault as well because I haven’t read 4 pages of terms and condition and I don’t have a credit card with my name on it and I couldn’t rent a car even if I pay a deposit and leave debit card with my name. I totally understand it’s not an agent fault but rental company said they won’t charge me money because it’s impossible to find in their confirmation later about creator card name on it. So rental car company didn’t charge the enjoytravel but enjoy travel decide to hold all amount of money. I’m ok if they deduct their % and refund me back money for the car I haven’t used and THEY HAVENT PAID TO RENRAL COMPANY. But instead they are taking it from me. If I knew it was the case I would let rental company take my money because they were at least trying to help. Not like this dodgy company. It is all based on my personal experience I had with this company. I’m happy to share my booking if I need to P.s. owner of the company is trying to contact me and ask me to remove the review as part of other few things to get my refund but was really unprofessional and rude so I will keep my review and he can keep my money, hopefully will help many people to avoid them

“STAY CLEAR”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 336Butler on 09/10/2020

Currently considering taking legal action against them just so no one else can be affected by them like we were. We arrived to pick up the car and was told the car hire company only accept credit card but not Amex. They explained this should be clearly visible on any website listing including Enjoycarhire and instructed us to I call to ask for a refund. This was certainly not the case, it wasn't on page one, two or three. I later found Enjoycarhire buried this in the T&C on page 7! I explained to Enjoycarhire there are strict European laws in place preventing them from doing such things. Laws for ‘Contracts with consumers’ states ‘Contracts must be fair’ and ‘contract terms must not disadvantage consumers’. In addition, under sample section 9 of ‘Hidden terms’ directly describes such actions performed by them and strictly forbids this. After exchanging several phone calls and emails, they were incredibly hostile and rude to me, especially this person , whilst all the time I stayed professional and presented facts. We are pinching pennies here especially as a nurse on the front line saving lives daily in the intensive care unit for COVID and these guys are just completely heartless. At the end we had no choice, lost our deposit and had to hire from another company on the spot so spent double what we originally paid for. I have no trust in this company and they shouldn't be allowed to do business. Completely heartless, rude and hostile. I've never experienced such hostility towards their customers. Please stay well away from them at all cost!

If it says airport on the information box then you will have to pick it up from car park P4. At Faro it is often quicker to take a shuttle bus which are very quick, usually less than five minutes.

Either way you generally need a credit card pre authorised and blocked off. Even if you take out the hire company insurance then they usually take a deposit for safe return of the vehicle. You can buy insurance online much cheaper than the car rental company sell it for.

If you choose a car from the search page the next page will give you all this info. You don't have to make a booking. You can just hit the back button. Enjoy give you way too many options, standard insurance, insurance with cancellation, insurance with bells on it etc etc. I think it is around £3.50 per day so can easily double your car rental cost. If you want to do it cheaper then you can buy a single trip or annual policy from an Insurance company. It is about £10 for a week or £35 for a year. Just search on Moneysupermarket, Chew insurance do a good annual policy.

If it states Airport then it is in car park P4 at the airport, just a short walk from arrivals. If it states shuttle then it is off airport and you go by bus from car park P4. None of the shuttle transfers are more than 5 minutes with the possible exception of Centauro who are a little farer away, maybe 8-1- minutes

Yes you still pay. But won't come off your credit card. Once car returned ok , any monies are cancelled. If your driving around Algarve , and parking up, supermarkets etc .try and keep away from other cars I've noticed many Portuguese just opening doors and not looking. Most stuff just common sense.

Not sure if Nobby's answer is correct. If you pay for excess insurance with enjoy at time of booking then I don't think you leave a deposit. If you pay for excess insurance locally with the hire company, the you definitely do not leave a deposit.

Usually companies block the amount, and cancel it at the end of your holiday when you return the car - check they do so. I recommend insurance4carhire to cover the xs - more comprehensive than the local (& possibly more expensive) one, especially if you do more than one hire per annum.

I think they just take your credit card details. I don't think they take it then refund at the end. However, I'd stay away from this company. I rent a lot and have used these twice for Geneva airport. I got my car via them from GVA hire and both times the car we got was very old, and VERY low spec and both times they overcharged us. It is taking ages to get the refund sorted and Enjoy have been very slow in responding to each of my emails. I think they do it in the hope you will give up!

Why not just ask Enjoy car hire and get the right answer. They have an online chat thing that actually works. I used this company to rent a car in Spain and they were great. I will use them again when I rent a car in the UK later this year. Savings were about 50% less than big name rental companies. I also had a little parking accident in Spain. The Enjoy included insurance meant that the accident cost me nothing at all. In fact I might have made a few bucks due to exchange rate fluctuations.

Hi,most of the cars are on P4 car park which is based on the Airport grounds, its about a 5 min walk from the terminal well signposted etc you do not go on the main highway at all, if the car is off site then they provide a mini bus from the P4 car park and that journey to the car is less than 5 mins, it really is very convenient just state on booking with enjoy car that you want to collect the car from the airport

The one I got in Portugal was about a year old and in great condition. Enjoy is a broker so your car is not supplied by them. I would guess that sometimes your car may be perfect and sometimes maybe not.

I have got cars from GVA hire at Geneva via Enjoy twice and both times the cars have been very old and low spec. Won't use them again, as all the other suppliers at Geneva supply far better cars (usually one grade higher than paid for and usually with Satnav, without any extra charges)

No, If you read the terms and conditions it states that you must have a credit card when you pick up the car. Debit cards and cash are not acceptable.

Yes it is. You pay an extra fee of €20 for picking up or dropping off outside of these hours.

Unfortunately I have never picked up a car from Lisbon as all my Portugal trips are to Faro. However, I suggest you ring EnjoyCar and they will answer your question.

I am planning to hire a car from Faro airport, Portugal. Could anyone let me know whether they have an office at the airport or is it just somebody waiting for us to hand us the car? Thanks

There is not an office as such. However, enjoy car arrange the car rental and as has happened to me on the numerous occasions that I have hired their cars the pick-up has always been from a office situated in carpark 4 of the airport, a short walk from the arrival hall. In fact returned only in the early hours of this morning having just been out to Faro again. Once again no problems with car hire and at least £80 cheaper than anyone else for an estate car.

This can vary, on the website it will show on-site and off site companies using visual indicators.

You should not need one for fuel as they have a fair fuel policy but you will need one for damage deposit, with the receipt returned when the car is returned with no damage
Report this content V50RLH Written on: 15/07/2015
It has to be a credit card and the amount depends on the size of car. Typically, it starts at €1000 for your little hire car.

This information can be found by pressing "more information" and then scrolling down to the "Insurance Coverage" Most suppliers will require a credit card however there is a few that don't this will also be listed in this section.

As far as I know it is dependent on the total amount of the hire. If you are unsure give their customer service a ring the number which can be obtained from their website.
Report this content V50RLH Written on: 15/07/2015
It will vary, but it does tell you in the Ts & Cs on the more info for each car. I don't think it varies on the price of the rental, more the class of car and seems to start at €1000
Report this content Enjoy_Car_Hire Written on: 18/11/2015
You will need to first have a quote, then press "more information" under the car you want to book and scroll down to "Insurance Coverage" here is the amount of excess.

No. I think the individual companies are contacted after you make the initial booking and then allocated based on availability.
Report this content gcf1 Written on: 24/06/2015
I do not think so. The reason I believe is that once the booking is made Enjoycarhire then find and match the most suitable and available carhire company at the required destination. I suggest you telephone the owner of Enjoycarhire, maybe he can advise you.

Hi there, I work for a travel company and am thinking of using this company for our personal holiday to Faro in July. Our flight arrives around 5pm, after reading some reviews can anyone advise if this is inside airport hours meaning no hidden charges? Also do they offer any free upgrades or discounts to the tourism trade? Thank you

Not sure what you mean by extra excels insurance? I have been traveling to Faro for many years and cover my car hire excess insurance via an annual policy with Insurance4carhire.com. This costs £39.99 for a year, hence far cheaper than taking cover from hiring company. Deposit costs with Enjoy Carhire covers their admin charges only as far as I know, so it is not too much with the bulk of the hirihg charge payable to the company leasing the car in Faro. With the £/Euro exchange rate as it is at the moment I feel it is the best way to deal at this time.
Report this content V50RLH Written on: 11/05/2015
As far as I'm aware, the excel insurance is all payable at the time of booking and you shouldn't have to pay any more once you're out there. I think the deposit is 9% or thereabouts.
Report this content babsonline Written on: 11/05/2015
The deposit to Enjoy when booking is only a few pounds, a percentage of the rental cost. For excess insurance you would be better doing as gcf1 answer and purchase an insurance before flying, you can buy excess insurance for the duration of your visit, approx. £10 for a week, or if you go several times a year, buy an annual insurance. about £40. Obviously much cheaper than purchasing through the hire car company. But, you must be aware, that when you pick up your car they will swipe your credit card and if you do have an accident they will charge you and it will be up to you to claim from your excess insurer for the amount.

Hi Kellianne Can you clarify deposit please. Is this what you pat Enjoy when you book (this is minimal)or is it re in case of any claim? If the latter i do not know as I always take out annual insurance with Insurance4carhire.com which is around £40 if I remember Happy to be contacted again

I to took out CDW insurance with another provider (Insurance4carhire.com being 1 who I have used before). The documentation I received when booking car hire in Croatia stated I needed to produce a credit card prior to collecting my car. If my memory serves, they then swiped it and placed a rather large charge on it, pending safe return. As I previously stated, the return procedure was very straight forward and I was not charged anything and the credit card "swipe" paperwork was destroyed in front of me.

Excess amounts are listed in the "more information" under the car you are selecting, this is listed in the "Insurance Coverage" section. If you take the Excess Protection you are still asked to leave a deposit for the excess and any damage costs are refunded back via the Excess Protection product.
