“Nuffield Health Stockley park”

★★★☆☆

written by Crabtree1971 on 29/01/2017

Stockley Park Virgin active gym , was never the best maintained of places. The Spa was rarely cleaned properly & although most of the staff were friendly , I got the feeling Virgin didnt treat either their customers or staff with much respect. However due to recent changes , Nuffield Health has taken over the running of the Gym.Its a new sign , new colour on the walls , but little if anything has changed . And on top of this nobody really seems to care much at the upper level of management ,especially when it comes to the customers views .Here are some issues which i felt needed addressing , but despite being told they will be dealt with , nothing has changed .A great many new users of the club are using the spa dressed in shorts and pants .The very same pants they have just trained in , in the gym Nice eh ! Ive even seen guys dressed only in white boxer shorts , strolling round the spa area as well as the pool .The boxer shorts ended up see through . Not one word was said to the customers regarding , health , safety and hygiene of wearing scuzzy underwear . Just recently ive noticed several members using phones around the spa area , and yesterday a lady was actually using a ohone in the sauna itself . Surely , seeing as its a private club , members deserve some privacy from a phone in an area of the club they are relaxing in . .This ia place where a phone , which is very capable of taking an unwanted image , should not be taken . And im pretty sure a phone being used in a sauna has the potential to overheat and cause injury . The club has a great deal going for it , but this lax attitude to listening to as well as acting upon customers concerns and complaints really lets this club down .As of right now , unless major shifts in attitude come into play , I will not recommend this club or Nuffield Health to anyone i know .

Poor decision - So called new 'Company policy?' To only give out one towel to swimmers with long hair even though membership is not cheap. Surely they can manage a second towel to avoid long wet hair! This is ridiculous. If ones using the gym only, one would be sufficient. Members are supposed to enjoy their visit, relax and de-stress. Not be annoyed by unnecessary changes! Please have a rethink for your customers sake.

Dear Member,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the complimentary towel provision at the club.

We are not changing any terms or conditions at the club by enforcing the existing 1 towel per visit rule. Our website clearly states on our clubs home page that a complimentary towel is provided. Whilst we have offered a complimentary towel to you from the beginning of your membership, it is not a part of our terms and conditions as it is a service that we only provide in some of our clubs.

If you require more than 1 towel per visit then we do have an option for you to add an additional towel at a cost of £1 per visit. Nuffield Health launders more than 11 million towels per year at a cost of 3 million pounds and we have identified that on average members use 1.7 towels per visit. We are committed from both an environmental and charitable status perspective to monitor and improve this.

We do however appreciate your feedback and would like to apologise for any inconvienience this has caused you when this change was implemented on-site.

With regards,

Ben

Same issue at Farnborough; took weeks to get the towel contract set up; was always given two towels whenever I went there; this week suddenly with no notice or consultation it's one. With the wet dirty floors I always use the towel from the pool to avoid standing in it. But this and other stuff in my own review made me give my notice immediately, a joint membership; so their tight ass approach has lost them two full paying members.

Aylesbury Despite many complaints about the use of mobile phones and tablets by the poolside and believe it or not in the changing room where there are naked children and adults,no cubicles, the staff just do not enforce their policy of not being allowed to use them. I would be very guarded about taking children to this pool as it would be very easy to photograph them without anyone knowing.

The number of swimmers that emerge from changing rooms bone dry is a concern. Despite the notice in shower area requesting people shower before using some don't comply. Some people are just not with it when it comes to personal hygiene.

Dear member,

Thank you for this feedback. Across our sites pool hygiene is, and will continue to be, a priority for us. As you have not been specific as to which site you attend I am unable to alert the appropriate manager. However, when next on site, please do not hesitate to alert a lifeguard or front of house member to this malfeasance.

Dear customer,

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that the cleanliness of our gym was not up to standard. Over the last 12 months we have invested significant amounts of money improving the cleanliness of our estate and recruiting 'clean teams' to keep the sites looking good throughout the day.

It appears in this instance that your experiences have not met our high standards and as such we will share this lost opportunity to secure your patronage with the hierarchy within our business.

Thank you once again for taking to time to feedback and we hope that we can secure your business when you next consider your health and wellbeing membership options.

With kind regards,

Ben

Dear customer,

Thank you for this feedback. I am sorry that the present situation with classes and gym operating hours is not to your satisfaction. I have forwarded your concerns to the local gym manager, to see how this can best be remedied. Equally I would like to thank you for the positive sentiment with regards to the facilities that we have recently launched.

Thank you for bringing this feedback to our attention and for reviewing your experience with us on the Reviewcentre website.

“up the game please ”

★★★☆☆

written by Bradshaw93 on 14/06/2014

I joined bishops Stortford gym because it is convenient and has good facilities ie after work out sauna steam swimming pool etc so those are the good points .The bad points are that cleanliness is an issue ie sauna has chewing gum and rolled up tissue stuck between the wooden seats .I have asked on several occasions for it to be cleaned but to no avail . The muscle posers and the like walk around with there up to date ear phones sit on a machine and stay there fiddling with their ipods as if they are in the park . Ones who want to be noticed drop the weights onto the floor totally unnecessary . Swimming pool area many people fail to shower before getting into the pool especially the kids coming from school for their swimming lessons there is a life guard on duty surely instead of looking bored they could interact and ask people to shower . On many occasions I have asked people to shower coming out of the sauna and into the Jacuzzi Ok what could be done well perhaps one of the staff could be on duty in the areas advising errant customers . I wrote to the head office once but got no reply and have left user comments locally still nothing changes . I have no alternative but would love to see a few changes

Dear Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback for the Bishops Stortford fitness and wellbeing gym. You have made light of some definite room for improvement at our site and I will be in close contact with the Duty Managers to make sure the customer/client needs are satisfied and met.

We work hard to make sure that the cleanliness of our gyms are kept to a very high standard, so when these levels are not maintained, it is greatly appreciated when members such as yourself make us aware, so immediate improvement can be made.

Thank you again for your feedback and honesty in your review.

“Bristol Nuffield Refurbishment”

★★★☆☆

written by Brian2012 on 01/12/2012

I read the review with regard to the refurbishment and totally agree. The fact we pay over £60 per month and are offered only the option to freeze membership (why would i do this when i want to stay fit) or 3 PT sessions as compensation is disgusting. 40% of the club is not available but they respond arrogantly to a requet for a reduction in membership fee for the period. The staff are generally nice, although reception staff are sometimes rude. All-in-all i like this gym, but have been stunned at the arrogant approach and lack of customer centricity. Even when complaining they treat you as if you should be lucky they let you in. Awful.

I have been a member of the club for some time and whilst mostly I find it a friendly, sociable place with helpful younger members of staff, I have been appalled by the way the refurbishment programme has been handled - with no real recompense for customers (as a peak member I am paying £60 per month for substantially reduced quality and service over 3 months). When complaining to staff, the management treat you, the customer, as if you are a naughty school child to be reprimanded; when complaining to head office, their attitude was not much better! I am now contemplating leaving to join a competing local gym. It saddens me in a way because there are many positive points and I have made friends. I refuse, however, to accept their terrible management culture which seems endemic from top down. It was noticeably better as the previous incarnation of Cannons. Can anyone explain to me why these people think it is OK to ignore the comments and complaints of people who pay their salaries......surely they can see that there are far too many 1 star reviews here?

Had some problems cancelling my membership at Nuffield (Cannons) in Bristol. Despite being long past my contract and having been told that I only needed to give one months notice I was then told that I needed to give three months notice. I wasn't prepared to do this as I had already started a contract with another gym so argued the point - only to have them turn around and say that it was indeed one months notice. A blatant lie that they went back on when challenged!

Poor customer service, lack of and broken equipment. Good riddence!

I was a member at the Nuffield health club in Bristol for 4 years. The Club is very neat, tidy and well thought out and overall I was very happy with the level of service.

Gym equipment could take a while to be repaired and it seemed to get very busy, but the staff are friendly and knowledgable.

As I didn't use the swimming pool or the exercise classes I did feel a bit like I was getting a bum deal, paying over £60 per month the use the weights machines, but since it was close to home I put up with it.

I have recently switched to a new gym, just 100 metres down the road from Nuffield who are charging me £45 less per month for newer, more extensive facilities, so sadly it was an easy decision.

The only real let down was the cancellation process. Even after I explained the situation the Manager I spoke with about cancelling proceeded to push me to stay, and then slated the new gym down the road, which I found awkward, embarrassing and highly unprofessional, more so when I found the new gym the complete opposite of his words.

If exercise classes, swimming pools etc are important Nuffield offers good value for money, but if, like me, you like to use just weights and running machines there are cheaper alternatives.
