“A waste of money! ”

written by MrHerb on 07/07/2013

I arrived and went in for the briefing, where they state all the health & safety stuff and then talk about the driving experience. The events manager was very professional, and said we should easily be achieving 130mph on the straight! So outside we went to await our 2 laps being driven around in a pro drive wrx subura. We then got told we would be taken round in a.........ford puma as the subura takes too long to strap people in!!!!! I was gutted by this, as I was really looking forward to the drive in the subura. The straight was very short, so I was dubious of these alleged 130mph achievable speeds! So once that was done it was Lamborghini time. Got in the car, adjusted the seat, and fired it up. Beautiful sound and by now i was very excited. So into 1st gear, pulled away and quickly told to change in to 2nd gear, then 3rd!!!! Then for the next 5 laps the greatest speed achievable was 70-80mph at a push, as I was told to keep it in 3rd and not drop below that, so coming out of the last tight corner onto the straight in 3rd was so sluggish you simply couldn't get a fast straight speed! The circuit being so small meant the 6 laps were over before they had hardly begun and there are so many corners and turns its ridiculous. Yes it's a purpose made track..... Purposely made so you can't go fast!!!!! We arrived at 09,.45am......we were on our way home at 11am!!!!! The whole point of the day to the organisers is to turn people round as quick as possible. They offer you 2 lap drives in all the other cars.....for £35, which is cheap considering my track 'day' cost £160!!!! All in all in my opinion its a very disappointing experience. Plus if you want pictures of your drive it cost me £20 for a cd with them on, taken by a professional photographer. Now bear in mind I had 6 laps and on my cd i had.......2 images on it, as that's all the photographer took!!! Is it a rip off....yes.....would i go again....no.....would I recommend it to anyone.....DEFINITELY NOT!!!!! I hope they read this to be honest, as they said they are open to suggestions, and there's plenty in this review to give them some food for thought!!!!

“My treat was to be the Aston Martin Thrill from Vision...”

My treat was to be the Aston Martin Thrill from Vision Motorsport at Great Tew.
The initial briefing was short and to the point and most of the time was spent by our instructor killing wasps with his Blackberry!
Two laps in the Subaru WRX STi followed, which were quite enjoyable and gave a good idea of the circuit. The circuit was disappointing as there were two quite short straights and lots of twisty stuff - no sweeping bends to allow the cars to stretch their legs. As noted in another review the braking points were set so far in advance of the corners that the cars finished braking a long way short of the turn-in points and a lot of time was spent coasting along waiting for the corner. Hardly conducive to an exciting drive!
My instructor put my back up fairly quickly by pointing out that my road car was a 'hairdressers car'! That might be true (although I don't consider a Mercedes AMG CLK55 with about 350HP really a 'hairdressers car') but he could have been a bit more diplomatic with his comments.
The track time was 6 laps which sounded OK but the very short lap made this less impressive that it sounded at first. My previous track experience was the Ferrari drive at Goodwood and that was a much more rewarding experience.
Not recommended I'm afraid.

“I booked an Audi R8 thrill , arrived slightly late...”

I booked an Audi R8 thrill , arrived slightly late which was no problem for the organiser, so I was happy that I was still able to have my experience. The walkthrough was entertaining but did not go through the track details at all (circuit in oxford). Git a couple of laps with the instructor first in a Subaru WRX STi, a great stripped out track car, this first showed that the track was a purpose designed track for people on driving experiences, a very short track of 0.75 miles only, and consisted of 2 short straights and loads of slow tight corners so that rookies can not go fast or gain enough speed to enjoy the car's ability, or from the point of view of Vision Motor Sport, limit any stress their cars. It was not looking good, it got worse when I got into the R8, the car was owned by the instructor and not the company, it was like getting into someone else's pride and joy, you had to drive the car with such delicacy that it was dull, I could have driven my own car around that circuit faster. The worst aspects of the drive where the over estimated brakes zones, because they were so far way, i had to break gently when the instructor said, even lifted of then re-broke at the appropriate zone before turning in, I estimate you were told to brake 3 times the distance of the cars braking ability, it was ridiculous! THE WORST PART OF IT WAS, the fact that the instructor had a power kill button, which he used way be for the car was even near it's limit, and was sometimes used mid corner which was dangerous, I once accelerated slightly to hard out of a corner that I could feel the traction control kicking in, which was fine, just had to back off slightly 'EXCEPT' bang, he hits his little panic button and the car goes wallowing off, we all know to power out of a corner, cutting the power is just dangerous. Don't go to these guys, all of my friends have done experiences elsewhere and had the chance to enjoy the car and a decent circuit, here, with Vision Motor Sport, you can't. Avoid. Matt
