“Useless”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Marquese1956 on 01/05/2014

I bought a roller blind last week in the Paul Simon store Orpington Way worth only £7.99 for my elderly mother, of which I realised when I got back to her home 1 hour later was too small for her window. This blind wasn't taken out of the box at all. I returned to the shop a couple of hours later asking them to change it for a larger size (of which I would also be paying them an extra £5 for) and they would not change it, as they were in administration and had no means of doing so. How can they sell this to a customer in the first place then?!! The staff were absolutely useless and couldn't be bothered (probably demoralised in losing their jobs) ... all they could say was to call their administration line. There was no customer service at all. Thankyou goodness I only bought a blind, can you imagine if you bought larger expensive objects ... DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM PAUL SIMON!!!

You have to understand that it was not paul simon who are saying no exchange or refund it is the administrators Deloitte who dictate this , if our company were still trading exchange would not be an issue

“WHERE'S MY MONEY??????????”

written by lisalawlorcross on 25/04/2014

I bought curtains on the 20th March online. As they still hadn't arrived by early April I telephoned. A helpful lady told me that they were still waiting for a certain size to come in, we agreed that sending them after the 16th April would be better for all round. Now it's 25th April, still no curtains, I rang the telephone number that was now out of order and I was put through to an operator. The operator tells me that this company is now in liquidation but I can still pick up my curtains from the shop. I told her this wouldn't be possible as I bought them online, she then told me to go to their website. There is no website of that name. Very angry.

“Worse ever service, don't waste your money”

written by Ch1r2ne on 04/03/2014

Just a quick overview... I ordered a wardrobe and chest of drawers from their Watford branch. When the furniture arrived, it was damaged and scuffed with splashes all over it. I called then and told them of the problem, they let me know a 3rd party company deals with the furniture and I had to call them about it. The other company was totally unprofessional and did nothing regarding replacing the furniture so I contacted Paul Simon head office. They were just as useless as the 3rd party company so I told them I wanted a refund as nothing was being done about the furniture and I hadn't even been given an apology. They never bothered to respond to numerous emails, just sent a standard letter refusing to give me a refund just telling me I have to accept the chest of drawers. I have received a refund from my credit card company luckily but Paul Simon are refusing to collect their faulty furniture so I am still fighting with them 3 months on. Warning: Do not part with hard earned cash with this company. You will regret it if anything goes wrong as their customer service is absolutely terrible.

“Absolutely Bloody Awful”

I won't bore you all with the saga of my curtain experience with Paul Simon., just never ever enter into the Harlow branch. The manager ok until things go wrong - you then see the nasty and aggressive side, great customer service NOT. Curtains ordered 2013, disaster from start to finish as curtains made incorrectly, it is now Feb 2104 and after many many attempts to get the curtains right, they have managed finally to do so. Shoddy workmanship, no apology given, dreadful dreadful customer service.

“Appauling curtains and customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 17/02/2014

Just took delivery of an order of curtains - they went straight back! The two curtains were different lengths, the horizontal striped pattern in the curtains didn't match and one corner was puckered due to the poor workmanship. When I went back to the shop, there was no apology offered or even any regret of the above. All I got was that "we didn't make them". I am not sure about that but one thing I am sure about is that I am never going back to Paul Simon again.

“Paul Simon Curtains review”

written by on 18/09/2013

Called into the Colindale branch to look at curtains on our way to John Lewis to order carpets for our bedroom and stairs and landing. We didn't even know this lot sold carpets!!. We barely had two minutes to look around, when some silver tongued salesman was all over us like a nasty rash. I walked away while he talked my wife into buying the carpets that we should've got from John Lewis. The bedroom carpet was fitted first, and the pair of clowns who did it, chipped my newly decorated skirting boards, right back to the bare wood. Like an idiot, I let it slide. They returned when the stairs and landing were ready. I wasn't there, but I returned home to find that not only had they done a lousy job of the carpet, but they'd damaged my newly decorated stringer, virtually all the way down the staircase. I complained, and the carpet manager came to my home and agreed to put things right. I told him not to send the same two back. Guess what? That's exactly what he did!! I sent the pair of them packing, and since then, all the 'carpet manager' has done is swerve the matter. I'm lucky enough to have access to free legal advice from trade union. Based on their advice, I'll be suing them for breach of contract, and I'll win. I've worked in the building trade for over thirty years, and I've worked with floor layers in properties ranging from housing associations to the savoy hotel. Never have I seen such sub standard workmanship. We always read customer reviews before using retailers for the first time, except this time!! If you value your property and your hard earned cash, give these monkeys a wide berth!!!

“ABYSMAL SERVICE”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 18/09/2013

Went into the Harlow branch to order some new made to measure curtains. Very helful staff, good price for the curtains and they arrived in very good time - much quicker than they told me. However, the curtains were badly made, had dirty marks on the back of one of the pair, the seams were uneven, the fabric had been "puckered" so they were all over the place and they hung badly - in my view too much speed and not enough attention to quality. Contacted the Harlow branch - initially they seemed helpful. The Manager was due to come and visit us but did not turn up - I contacted the branch to be told he had gone for the day! They then arranged for the cutains to be inspected - the rep was late and could not make any decisions. I was told the Manager would ring me before 3.00pm - he did not do so. I then took legal advice and rejected the curtains under the Sale of Goods Act - they did not want to accept this but I remained steadfast and they backed down and refunded me. Their atitude was dire - no apology for the failed appointments, poor curtains etc Would never go back into a Paul Simon for anything.

“cheap labour and lots of lies”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 30/05/2013

I bought my new carpet from Paul Simon (Wimbledon) the manager was very nice, came to the house the day after we went into the shop.. measured up.. all good.. however the contractors they use are awful.. meant to come at 2pm but arrived at 6pm. 3 men, two of whom couldn't speak any English so communication breakdown straight away. The 3rd man (the so called manager of the other 2) sat in his van for most the time, when he did come into the house he sat in our lounge like he owned the joint! couldn't believe it.. feet on the sofa, playing games on his mobile, told us to close our windows as he was cold.. liberties! and to top it off he fobbed us off with the cheap underlay instead of the more expensive one we paid for. when I questioned him (being a young woman I know he was going to take the mick out of me) he lied to my face and said it was the good underlay... when I spoke to the manager the day after he admitted they used the cheap stuff! Our runner on the stairs was wonky but kept saying its ok but when I measured one side was 3" the other nearly 6" from the side... not exactly symmetrical! As it was getting late he and his men rushed their work. When I spoke to the Paul Simon manager they didn't want to know as they now had our money so they obviously don't care about the quality..NEVER again would I use Paul Simon. Money grabbers... next time i'll pay a bit more and use a recommended company. I've never written a review before but just had to write about this company. Never again.

“Not worth the hassle”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/05/2013

I used Paul Simon (Croydon) for the first time in October last year (2012) as they were offering the curtain (made to measure) we wanted at a much cheaper price than many well-known dept stores. In short, the price was the only good thing. The first set of curtains contained holes in the lining and marks on the material and had to be returned. We chased several times to find out when a new set would be expected. Eventually we found out that the material was no longer in stock and that a delivery would be arriving in Feb 2013. These would then be shipped back when made and we would recieve in March. If we knew the hassle it would take to receive the curtains we ordered (nearly six months!) we would happily have paid more somewhere else. The fact that no-one seemed to know what was going on and that we had to continually chase over several months just to get things moving was bordering on ridiculous. The whole operation seemed out of sync with what was going on and had it not been for receiving an additional discount due to the excessive delay in production we would have happily cancelled the order. My advice: save up and use another company. We have used a well known dept store (never knowingly undersold) and it went like a dream compared to this. We will not be using Paul Simon again and have passed this advice on to our family and friends. Funny enough, we have since discovered other disgruntled customers that have also since steered well clear.

“Poor quality, misrepresentation and lack of experience”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 05/05/2013

I have used Paul Simon a lot in the last 8 to 9 years. Just recently I ordered three pairs of made to measure curtains from Paul Simon Catford branch at a total cost of £1600. The sales person lied about the thickness of the internal linings used in the curtains. I have been oversold associated finishing and the track was not compatible with the curtains. The curtain making is of poor quality and look to have been completed by a beginner or an incompetent unskilled worker. I have attempted to make a section 75 claim though my credit card company however I do not know what the outcome will be. I would encourage people who have used a credit card for their transaction to go straight to their credit card provider after receiving a response from Paul Simon 'customer service' department. They are all amateurs running right through the company and including the management at head office. If this is how they treat their customers I would hate to work for them they must be crying out for some decent training. What I didn't realize about them before is that they are always having 'SALES'. It appears to me that their sales are on top of sales which should be investigated.

“STEER CLEAR - DO NO BUY CARPET FROM PAUL SIMON - CROYDON”

★☆☆☆☆

written by anonunknown on 16/04/2013

Just under a year ago I bought matching carpet for my hallway, lounge and bedroom. The story is long and extremely unpleasant, as are the staff that I have had the misfortune of dealing with at Paul Simon. Especially Customer Services. Now to add insult to injury I am finding that the carpet that I bought just under a year ago is showing signs of severe wear. (My previous carpet from Allders was 11 years old before it started showing the same type of wear) A little suprising as I work all day, have no children or pets and take my shoes off at the front door. Unforunately, it prooves to me that Paul Simon's products are as sub-standard as their staff and I rue the day I ever walked into their store. Trust me I will NEVER buy anything from them ever again. And I would highly recommend that you don't either.

“Competitive prices coupled with atrocious service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by robtrigwell on 28/03/2013

I will try to précis my dealings with this supplier so as not to bore the reader. Suffice to say that I ordered a carpet on the 8th January 2013 and it still has not been fitted. I should add, to be fair, that until 25th February we were away from home but on return I contacted [name removed] to arrange fitting. This was to be done on 8th March. I still await the momentous event and the latest prediction is 4th Aprill. What a bunch of uninspiring amateurs this lot are. I have so far spoken to virtually every member of the Stevenage branch, where the order was placed, without detecting much common sense. My biggest mistake was to pay upfront, which makes it a problem to claim money back and go elsewhere without further delays. The latest fitting was arranged for Saturday 30th March but I was phoned late today by the 'carpet manager' to cancel yet again. It was his day off and he had conveniently forgotten to phone me yesterday when he found out about it. Not that he told me at first it was his day off but when I returned his call on his mobile he admitted to being off but explained he often made these calls on his day off because of his commitment to the company! I later spoke to the area manager who offered me his sincere apologies, along with the rest of them, and said mistakes do happen. Not this mant times if you are a reputable company. What a disgrace. Please do not make the same mistake as I did and be swayed by the competitive prices.

Ordered a bed chest of drawers and a wardrobe, bed was delivered with black scuff mark on it mattress had hole in it, two days later chest and wardrobe delivered incomplete and damaged chest had wrong screws couldnt fit handles screws too small, wardrobe had only screws for one handle, and interior of both doors scratches on them. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS STORE IN WATFORD if you want stress then go there we are still waiting one week on we have agreed to except replacement mattress, but we have decided not to accept furniture as after numerous phone calls to the store we feel let down we have been passed to head office who you cannot speak to you have to Email problem then they respond, with you will have to wait up to ten days for us to investigate this. What is there to investigate we have damaged furniture and incomplete We dont want it come and get it on top of all this we have family staying from abroad in the bedroom with the useless furniture what a mess it all is so stressful and there is no need this should have been sorted PROMPTLY this would have made a big difference to the situation. We were told on Thursday the new screws were in the post still waiting. The excitement of getting new furniture has been taken out of it, just feel upset and let down too.

Well I seem to be among the myriad of people with complaints. I ordered two single electrical adjustable beds with fitted headboard. What a mistake. The staff do not know about the products they sell. When the bed and headboard arrive it proves to be a physical impossibility to fit the headboard to the bed. Replacement headboards ordered and received, and yes guess what they cant fit either. I am now on a third order which was expected this week, and yes, they are not delivering. I might get my order next week if I am lucky. So now I am writing to the Directors of the company for those who need names.. For the rest of you, don't buy at Paul Simon

“Bought carpete and have not stopped regretting!! NEVER...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 07/03/2013

The most unpleasent experience ever! Bunch of lyers! I have no good words left. I bought carpete for my house. I gave the dimentions to the shop that I measured myself. My builder told me nbr of steps on my stairs. I trusted the shop assistant who calculated the amount of carpete - she appeared to be 2.2m wrong. He left a huge piece of carpete in my living room for 3 WEEKS while was sorting the stuff out with the store, head office. I had to pay extra for the additional carpete. For over two weeks being on the phone every day with the head office i was offerd 40GBP discount as a matter of good will as they said and paid hundreds of pounds for rented accomodation as the builders could not finish the living room because the roll of carpete was on the way. Than fitting was scheduled and I had to take a day off twice and the fitter never showed up. After screaming at them on the phone for a few times he finally came on sunday morning and demanded extra money for fitting even though that he himself wrote on my invoice that the money was paid in full for carpete fitting. In addition to that he put a chepaer underlay - not the one I paid for. I compalined to the store, brought the sample and than I got a call from a new store manager that the underlay I got it more expensive that the one I paid for. But I am not blind. They refused to refund me the difference. In addition the fitter left all rubbish bihind saying that he is banned from the landfill site and I have to get rid of the rubbish myself. I was not told that I have to deal with it when I bought it. The head office send me an e-mail that as a matter of good will I can get the discount on the curtains and when I asked for it - they backed off saying that I am not entitled to anything even though that I have it in writing. That they gave me extra discount on the carpete which is not true as I buoght the carpet on Boxing Day sale and the discount was applicable to everybody. I kept telling the manager that I am surprised that they are still in business with that kind of service. I would never recommend them and if there was a possibility to five them minus five stars - that is the grade they belong to.
