“Delivery 6 months late but vM are STILL advertising...”

I ordered Clematis urophylla winter beauty in November 2020. Expected delivery early 2021. Have chased repeatedly to be told it would be 'another 2 weeks'. The order data was not updated. Today they say delivery will be 10th June 2021. Never again. Have found the plant quality reducing in last couple of years, as well.

“Never buy from this company”

I have never dealt with a company that has such shocking customer service. They just completely ignore you. I ordered several plants, first delivery 6 out of the 9 plants were dead and looked like they had been in the box for weeks. I am still waiting for the rest but cannot get hold of anyone by phone (line doesn't work) or email (don't respond despite saying they will in 10-14 days - 3 months later nothing!!!) . I will never buy from them again. They should be shut down!!!!

“Van Meuwen - sellers of dead twigs and impossible to...”

Van Meuwen - sellers of dead twigs... Ordered a Daphne in 9cm pot, knowing that it would be small and is a slow grower, but prepared to watch the plant develop over time. However, when the plant arrived it was in dreadful condition. A single spindly stem and the leaves, what leaves there were left hanging on, were badly marked with brown patches. The plant was almost dead. I tried to telephone Van Meuwen on several occasions on their 0844 number, (which by the way they charge the top rate for), but I never got an answer. Other numbers I tried were unreachable. I emailed them several times, and I included photographs of the state of the plant and still never received a reply. I tried several email addresses that I found on the internet, but nothing. I would definitely never buy from these people again. Even if the condition of the plant was a one off - which from reading other reviews it does not appear to be - not being able to contact them is a definite red flag. I did plant it into my own pot, following guidelines from an RHS expert, but it never recovered - £15.00 wasted on a dead twig. Thanks a lot Van Meuwen!

“Poor service poor plants”

Plants where nothing like the picture and where 3 weeks late (I understand that's good for them) never did get my full order or money back..and almost a year later constant harassment from them junk mail in the post and emails. I unsubscribe but they ignore me. STAY AWAY FROM VAN MEUWEN is my advice. Thank you.

“terrible service”

I ordered 144 summer bedding plugs, waited quite a while, then the postman brought them in to me, he had found them on my drive where the yodel driver had thrown them over a five barred gate. I eventually got on to customer service ( long wait) they promised a new batch sent by a different carrier.The new batch arrived today I found them this morning on my drive where the yodel driver had thrown them again. at the gate there is an intercom and a door bell to attract our attention. they choose not to use it. the plants were mostly rotted off now awaiting a new batch, join a poor garden company to a useless carrier and you end up with a disaster.

“Consistently poor customer service”

I recently ordered some plants from Van Meuwen (in March 2017) which were scheduled for delivery by the end of May. On 28 April while en route to a planned Holiday I received an email to say that the plants had been dispatched and would arrive in approx 4 days time - a full month before I had expected them! I called them to explain that I would not be home until Saturday May 6 and requested that they hold the dispatch until the middle of the week 1-5 May. The lady I spoke with said that they could not hold the dispatch but that if the plants were damaged when I did get them that I should ring and they would replace them. As expected, when I got home and opened the package the plants were very bedraggled as i had expected after 9 days in transit. Despite my requests on 5 May for a replacement or a refund, my email has either failed to have been acknowledged or replied to - I suspect that ignored is the operative in this case, which would fall in line with the experiences of the standard of customer service they seem now to be famous (or infamous) for. Having asked them to close my account a month ago, I find that it is still active and have asked them yet again to close it. I am out of pocket but a whole lot wiser with regard to where and with whom I buy my gardening products in future.

“Dreadful ”

I wish I had read reviews before I ordered from this company.I ordered quite a few bedding plugs which all arrived later than stated and were dreadful,Tiny , yellow leaves ,and damaged they looked as if they had been germinated and sent straight out.The only response to repeated complaints was we will send replacement plants,which when they arrived had been in the post for 7 days and even worse than the original I would avoid this company like the plague

“Plug plant purchase”

I recently ordered the summer bedding plug plants, however when the plants arrived they were the wrong ones (rather boring mix of begonias and petunias). When I spoke to an advisor (after a long wait) I was not given any proper explanation. I was told someone would ring me back, however no one did (although later told they had tried - but not left a message). I am waiting for a refund. The advisor was fairly offhand and unprofessional. I will not be using this company again.

“Never Again!”

Dreadful Company ... No response to complaints of 2 lots of plug plants arriving in dying state. Seem to post out before weekends and one lot before Easter Bank Holiday ..? All little plugs were wet and slimy with leaves stuck to cardboard. No response to messages .. even one on Facebook?! Phoning waste of time as was left hanging for 0ver 15 minutes with no info on where you are in line etc! I am well out of pocket ... Be surprised if this company survives much longer ..Very Unhappy First time Customer!

This is exactly what happened to me. If you view your order history online and then click View Order Details, then click I have a query with this item, click Select Option on the right side of the screen and then click Product damaged on arrival and fill in the details of the damage in the big box in the middle of the screen. Afterwards click the red button labeled Send to our customer care team on the right of the screen. My original order and two replacement orders have arrived in the same bad state. I have complained as above each time and got a response in about a week stating they will replace the plants. It then takes at least 3 weeks for the plants to arrive. In my last complaint I have asked for a voucher instead as I have seen another review that says they don't give refunds. I shall wait to see if I get a voucher this time.

“Awful plant awful service”

Ordered a standard magnolia looking wonderful in the advert in tv paper. When it arrived looked like a stick. I contacted and they said give it six months and it will be fine. Six month later still a misshapen stick,not a standard just a half dead badly shaped magnolia. No resemblance to advert. Constant emails trying to get a refund studiously ignored.Dreadful firm.....

Ordered selections of plants for 60th birthday. Came 6 weeks later, boxed and taped up with no air holes. Condition was pathetic, advised customer services, who said they would replace - have not heard since. Sadly all plants will be thrown away. Will I get a refund? Would never use again or recommend - terrible service.

“The customer is never right”

Where do you start with a company that thinks it knows better than its clients...? I order a series on plug plants and grasses. They turn up as expected from a timing perspective, but in general, they are bashed, unleashing and tired. Hey ho...move on! Then, the two large plant grasses I ordered arrive..the ones I have been waiting for. And they are absolutely tiny! I paid for large...I want large. There's a mass produced note stuck in the box stating they could not provide the plants ordered due to an irrigation issue and had selected smaller substitutes. Now the substitutes they selected I could have bought from homebase for 3 quid. However, as a gesture of goodwill, they state they have offered me a 5quid voucher off my next purchase. Valid till November. ain't that absolutely generous of them! So I contact them...and they give me absolute drivel about how they have researched customer preferences and that customers prefer an alternative to a refund...plus it was too hard for them to do a refund...according to their team... If I order a dress in a size 12 in an online store and they can't provide it, I don't expect them to send a size 6 just to,protect their own revenue streams in the hope I will just suck it up! Might not have been a lot of money, but I would rather it was in my pocket than theirs! Absolute bunch of scheisters. Don't use. I won't use again.

“Poor quality”

It took 6 days for my plants to arrive once they had been posted. It was during the very warm weather we had in the middle of June, they were bone dry with yellow leaves and broken stems. I have contacted Van Meuwen and they haven't bothered to reply to me. Very Disappointed with them as a company. Won't be using them again.

Trying to establish a new garden I came across by chance Van Meuwen and proceeded to purchase a selection of plants, I am still waiting for one plant which is promised before the end of May and up until my last delivery I have been underwhelmed. I received geranium plugs - that were yellow unhealthy and poor quality. I have emailed twice attaching images of the product and requesting a refund - guess what still waiting The plants I have bought from a local supermarket are far superior to the plants from this company I wish I had read these reviews before purchasing - learn from my mistake don't bother with Van Meuwen

“Poor customer Service”

I have just received an order from them for 10 sweet pea plants, sadly they arrived dried up and very dead looking. Could there have been some delay in sending them? I would therefore like and expect to be given a full refund on this order or at least more live plants, however I do not know how to contact them. Could anyone let me know how I can claim my refund?  I have bought many items from them in the past and have been pleased with their quality etc. Thank you.

Email them, stating your order number. I had to send 3 emails but in the end I got a full refund and got the keep the plants which in the end did pretty well. The refund gave me a confidence in the company and I've ordered more plants etc from them and the quality was superb.. I hope this helps.

Hi. Go onto their website and use that telephone number, but more than likely you will have to leave a message - they never seem to answer their phone. You can email them through the site too. This was my experience with them: I received an order from them last year and very disappointed with them - some dead on arrival - some hanging on for grim life. I rang them and left messages and never got a phone call back - I sent emails and messages through their website. Eventually, I left the feedback on the review website as I was so unhappy with them. Many weeks later I was contacted by email to say I would receive a refund. That happened some weeks later. Needless to say I dislike the lack of communication, over a long period of time, so will never order from them again. You at least had previous orders that you were happy with. Hope this helps.

I emailed them, several times it must be said. I sent photographs as well. Eventually, I got replacements of the plants they could send and full refunds for those they could not replace. This only happened after I had logged the problem with review centre! Good luck - persistence will win out Regards Bob Wright
