Both my hearing aids went dead recently and so I searched around for a repair service. The manufacturor (Widex) and most hearing centres seem to be more interested in selling you new ones than repairing them and my last trip to a hearing centre was a pricey affair.
So, I found Hars (http://www.hars.co.uk) and decided to give them a try. Within 2 working days they diagnosed the fault (they needed new receivers) and said they could be fixed within the standard repair charge of £65 each. Another 2 business days later and I had them back. Given my hearing aids cost over £2,000 each I thought this was extremely reasonable and their communications were excellent.
So, don't give up on your broken hearing aids, give these people a try.
