“Avoid like the plague...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 29/06/2011

Cancelled an order for a desk one day after ordering - I hadn't searched for reviews ( don't be pulled in by their marketing strategy of having a little girl sat on a sofa.) The landline no. on their site is NOT WORKING! They never answer the 0845 number - you end up paying for diverted calls to the 'Accounts dept' etc - JOKE! Their company address is a PO Box - so the mention of showroom visits in false reviews is a farce! They took my money - after I cancelled - rather than clicking cancel themselves. They use SAge Pay - I am in communication with them to stop this disgraceful practice. They don't answer emails - I've written maybe 5 and tried calling many times. AVOID AVOID AVOID

“Aspen desk - a.k.a. Cleveland Frosted Glass Computer...”

Aspen desk - a.k.a. Cleveland Frosted Glass Computer Desk. This is a very modern looking desk with a green frosted tempered glass top supported at one end by two grey metal legs and at the other by a short metal post projecting from the top of a white cabinet. The short metal post is inconspicuous, so it creates the effect of the top floating above the cabinet. Although supported at only three points, the top is quite stable. Although described as a computer desk, there are no particular features designed for a computer, such as a pull-out keyboard shelf (which suits me as a don't find them useful). The desk could serve just as well as a general office desk. One reason for choosing the Aspen is its generous depth (80 cm), which I need to accommodate my old CRT monitor and a media keyboard. A lot of computer desks now seem to be quite narrow, I suppose designed for flat LCD monitors. I had some difficulty assembling the cabinet. The instructions are misleading regarding the orientation of the drawer runners, which are shown the wrong way up in the illustrations. Runner parts 1-A & 1-B are drawn such that the two holes at their roller ends are orientated towards the bottom of the pedestal. But if you fit the runners this way, it's impossible to fit the drawers properly, because the gap that allows the rollers on the drawer to be inserted into the pedestal runners are where the two holes are, and these need to be pointing towards the top of the pedestal. (It's possible the illustrator was confused by the fact that the pedestal is shown being constructed upside-down.) With no written instructions, you depend on the illustrations. I followed them exactly as shown, but as a result had great difficulty attempting to fit the drawers in the pedestal until I realized the drawings were wrong. In doing so, I slightly damaged the front panel of the large bottom drawer. I emailed Enjoy Furniture pointing this out, and they quickly sent me a replacement part for free. The drawers are in any case tricky to get right - you need to finely adjust the position of the runners using their slotted holes. The glass top is heavy and needs two people to assemble it with the legs and cabinet. Ideally, a third person is useful for lining up the screws underneath. I had some concerns about putting the heavy monitor on the glass top, but it's tempered glass and seems to take the weight. To be on the safe side, I put a coffee table book under the monitor pedestal to spread the weight a bit. I found you can get a nice lighting effect by putting a small uplighter lamp under the desk, which makes the whole top glow and provides a pleasant background light in a darkened room. Despite difficulties assembling it, I'm very pleased with the desk. Price includes VAT & delivery, so Enjoy Furniture are competitive on price, and they provide good friendly service.
