Took out an IGI landlords insurance for our four bed detached house from a nice website

In the sixteen days between tenants the property unfortunately flooded from a burst pipe in the attic which we spotted within a day.

They sent out an assessor and verbally told us we could get dehumidifiers in but as nothing was in writing it was meaningless.

Then one month in after we had started getting quotes they got the insurance assessor to phone us to point out that the small print in the full and detailed policy shows that the summary you get when you purchase the policy is misleading. When a property is unoccupied, even for a day, with IGI you are not insured for any water damage. We are now £35k out of pocket.

Do not buy an IGI policy. If you have one already request the full policy including small print and go straight out and buy yourself a real insurance policy from a real insurance company.

One very unhappy IGI customer who in future will always read the small print before buying any insurance policy and not rely on trust and nice websites
