No Communication Skills
Called to get additional information about kit and was not treated as a potential customer willing to spend money at his buisiness. Was rushed to get off phone and recomended me to go to web site and get the information I was requesting as well as ordering from site. I believe the kit I was to purchase from his site would be quality in workmanship, But the communication skills from this individual/salesman/clerk halted my purchase as of now.

I have owned 2 motor kits from this company. On the second purchase I was hesitant to buy again from this dealer, but there are so few out there I did. However, I will never buy from them again and I will explain why.
First let me say, the engineering, ease of installation, and operation of the NEW kit are all very good. That being said, consumers should know that the order fufillment, shipping, product support and service are all abysmal--very poor.
The owner/operator, Mr Staton seems to me to be a bit anti-social. That is, his communication and people skills are basically non-functional. He is hard to get ahold of, short/abrupt, moody, rarely responds to emails, and not too good when it comes to matters of return/exchange/refund--even when the faults are on his end.
Let me explain. The first kit, a Honda chain-drive kit arrived broken and leaking oil. The expensive, $650+ piece of equipment was so poorly packaged--a little bit of newspaper, single cardboard box--that it was falling out of the box. It immediately started leaking oil when filled, and it was hellish trying to get in touch with him...no answers to emails...rarely answers phone. When I did I was blamed for the defect ("I dont know what you did to it!"), and a refund was refused. Finally he said he would replace the kit, but I had to pay high shipping each way...another 160+ dollars. He said he would inspect the returned product and consider splitting shipping with me, but never did, and never responded to future messages. I let it go. The replacement kit was sent in the special padded/double boxed packaging that I provided for the return, and it worked great for a long time.
The second Honda kit I bought was for a different bike. He did not double box item as I requested, but I used priority and it arrived all-right. However, with this kit he never sent me an invoice--maybe he did not want to deal with me again/hear from it again. But the invoice is important if you ever need warranty service on your Honda motor. When I later requested one he said he had no record of the sale, and never sent me one. When the time came for some service on the kit he was fine about selling me the parts, but provided very little instruction on how to do it. I managed with difficulty.
The next time I needed a part he charged my credit card, then after 2 weeks of unanswered emails, still no part had arrived. All this time I was without my main transportation. I finally got him on the phone, and he gave me a tracking number, which checked out to have been created that same day. He also charged me a slightly higher price than listed on the website. Emailed him about these things asking him to please respond, but still no response. He raised the listed price on the site though within an hour. Now, almost three weeks later, I still do not have my part, am still stranded and somewhat frustrated. Checking the tracking number says he just sent the part out today!
In summary, the bike/bicycle motor/engine kits offered by Staton-Inc. are of high quality function and design. If you get a good one, it will work well. If you have a high level of mechanical knowledge and a good home workshop, you probably wont have a problem messing with it. If you need help and have technical difficulties, it may be somewhat difficult/frustrating. For the high price of the items, they should be shipped carefully with top-notch materials, but they are not and prone to damage due to the often-rough nature of shipping. If you have any issues with the product you receive, customer service will likely not be a good experience. There is not enough courtesy and kindness like a buyer hopes to receive from someone they deal with. From my two experiences, I have the feeling that money is the bottom line, and if he has a chance to get one over on you he will. It seems like a short-sighted business strategy, but that's the reality. They may be very busy over there, or short-handed, but that does not help the customer experience.
I cannot recommend paying this much for something when the service and support of the product is so poor. Personally I have decided not to buy anything else from this company, even though the quality is high and there are few good kits out there. Rather, I think I may just sell mine and try to get something else, like the motor belt-drive kits, or just use it until its dead and then look into a moped or electric bike or something. Hope this was helpful. Im a bit frustrated currently, but have tried to be fair and balanced and honest in my summary. Good luck! :-)
