“Avoid - these insurers are suspect”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 24/06/2012

I have severe concerns about this company. I have taken out a Home Policy, and have been bombarded subsequently with emails and letters threatening to cancel my Policy (and charge me for the privilege) because they haven't received proof of my previous policy. They have received, and acknowledged receipt of this proof, twice. I am beginning to think that they may not be as they claim, especially given the other reviews I have now read. Please do not use this company - they only operate via email and their advertised telephone rates are very high. I have a suspicion that they will not pay out easily if someone makes a claim.

“Small Claim - No Renewal”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GrahamANWright on 01/01/2012

At the beginning of the year a leak in the water system in my tank flooded the loft and came through the bathroom ceiling. My insurance was purchased through EHome (acting for Aviva). Aviva settled the claim of £2,096 promptly. But imagine my surprise and horror when at the end ofthe year I received an email from EHome that read: "It is the insurers discretion to decide what risks they are willing to insure. Within our underwriters criteria they advise that they we will not offer quotes for policies that have claims amounting to more than a £1000 listed. This is their decision. Due to this we are unable to offer a renewal premium for the coming year." I was very disappointed, particularly since I was told precisely and exactly the opposite when I asked about this as we working on settling the claim. I had specifically asked if the claim would affect my premiums and was told this was not the case. I feel that I had been mislead and (presumably) I was assumed to have made a fraudulent claim. I asked for an explanation why but got none. The sting in the tail is that then trying to get a new cover for my home/contents is now VERY much more difficult as insurance companies invariably ask if you have made a claim in the last 5 years. Motto of the story: Avoid EHome and Aviva .... unless you never ever intend to claim on you insurance.

“AVOID AT ALL COSTS! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/08/2010

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I took out a policy for buildings insurance with ehomeinsurance.co.uk, but the same evening I realised that I needed to contact them urgently about an issue relating to the policy documents.
I soon found that they are not contactable by phone, so I sent a message to them via their online contact form. Their website says that they aim to respond to emails within 4 hours. It actually took them about 40 hours to repsond! Within that time I had sent them two further emails outling how urgent it was. I did not have a response to either of these emails.
For an internet-only company I decided that this was not good enough, and promptly cancelled my policy. As the policy had not started yet, I will hopefully be having a full refund.
I would advise everyone to avoid this company. It is worth paying more and going with a company where you can actually speak to someone when you need to.
